Hi All,

Just picked up a 53 plate Doblo, and its slightly taller than previous van, so the roof aerial hits our car port. Have to unscrew the whip every time we put it under cover, which is a pain. The mount is factory and looking online, it should be able to tilt, to angle it back lower against the roof, but it won't budge. Don't want to force it and break anything, so wondering if we need to access the mount from underneath to release the tilt mechanism, then lock it again at the new angle. I think we can access through the interior light fitting. Should it just move from the outside or not?... Read more

Hi looking to buy my first car in a few months and can’t decide which used hatchback car is better for me.

I can’t decide between the Mercedes Benz a200 (either Sport or AMG) or Honda Civic Vtec Turbo Sport.

I am looking to keep this car for a good 6 to 7 years so want something reliable.

FYI: I am 29 about to be 30 soon, so I’m not a young driver and had my license for 18 months going on two years soon.

In addition, not only am I in a high paying job, I will be installing a Thatcham car alarm and GPS tracker and getting a ghost immobiliser to reduce insurance premiums. Plus I will check if adding my father as a named driver on the insurance will help reduce it some more. So the price for those two used hatchbacks/insurance payments isn’t an issue.

Please let me which one I should go for, out of Benz A200 or Civic Vtec turbo sport to last 6-7 years. Read more

I’ve been looking for the perfect 5 door hatchback for months and those two are my favourite and best options so it’s out of those two for sure. I’m buying either a used Mercedes Benz a200 or a used Honda Civic Vtec turbo sport. I just want to make sure I pick the right choice to last me a good 6 years.

If you will only consider those two, buy the Civic.

Warning

I have read the EV car batteries degrade over time.

Does that mean it it also charge the car quicker, so does it need to be on charge for the same amount of time?... Read more

RT

Have manufacturers done tests to prove that the current batteries will indeed last the 10 years that is bandied about?

I imagine it may be quite difficult to arrange an exact simulation of the 10-year life of a battery without waiting a few years at least. Accelerated charge-discharge cycles may not have the same effect. There is plenty of history on similar set-ups, but extrapolation to a different arrangement may show deviations....

Does anyone know if there is a time limit between when a 'fault' (pothole, pavement collapsing etc) is highlighted by the council on the roads and when the work has to be carried out? Read more

Crickleymal

It's not just recently. I think it was 1976, our council resurfaced one road running uphill from the main road by coating it with tar and chucking pea gravel at it. Of course, being a really hot summer, the tar melted and several tons of gravel shifted down the road collecting in drifts at the bottom.

Looks CGI’d to me.

Does to me as well - especially the person who is meant to have been hit by the object - just does not look right.

Proposals to make MOTs less frequent assume that drivers have some enough sense to have their vehicle checked if they hear strange noises or notice steering or braking seeming abnormal.

In some states of the USA there no compulsory safety inspections are required: look on YouTube at "Just Rolled In" clips showing deathtraps driven in with serious faults that owners sometimes decline to be repaired. Read more

I used to run a 2-year MOT interval routine in the UK.

I have been on the road since 1974 and its been an MOT every year on 3 year old and over cars all that time. Before on line tax you had to take your current MOT to the Post Office to tax it....

Excess Road Rage?

As opposed to what, insufficient road rage?

Where do I stand when I have returned a car due to it being not fit for purpose, they have returned the finance amount and part of deposit but not the full deposit, money for the car I px and also expenses accrued which is part of their policy to do
They have had the car since 8/3/23 Read more

The first step would be to review the terms and conditions of the contract you signed with the dealer, and any documents related to the purchase and return of the car. This will help you understand what you are entitled to and what the dealer is obligated to provide.

If you feel that the dealer is not fulfilling their obligations, you should contact them and request a full refund of the deposit, and any expenses incurred as part of their policy. It's important to provide them with specific details about what you are owed, and why you believe they are responsible for providing it. Hope that helps mate.
