I have been told by a friend that insurance companies increase premiums after the policyholder turns 75, which I recently did.
Is this general ? Or is it just the usual 'shop-around' ? Read more
I'm a little confused as to what red light cameras look like exactly?
I thought most of them have a tiny black camera on top but this one I saw last week looks like there is just a white box attached to the traffic lights...?
Yup. Gone through a few on amber but none on red.
Hi,
My friend thought he was helping me out which I appreciate and recently installed a new coil spring on the front passenger side of my car. The next day I noticed a knocking noise when turn the steering wheel.... Read more
The spring was broken so could not check length of spring. It looks to be well seated in the bottom cup but not sure about the top. I will check again tomorrow.
The interest rates going up for some time, but inflation not coming down.
In theory, as borrowing becomes more expensive less money should circulate in economy which would pull prices down.... Read more
Be very interesting to see how they intend to pay back the monopoly figures money they continue to borrow (in our name) and continue to spend like 600 drunken sailors.
Whatever happens to interest rates is fairly moot, the amount of tax net contributors pay out is only going to increase....

Found a large leak in back of passenger footwell, smells of fish
Any ideas what’s caused this? Read more
If the leak is 'large' and from the heater matrix, the level in the coolant reservoir must have dropped noticeably. Hopefully you look at it occasionally, and know where it usually is ?
I bought a car that turned out to have been previously written off but repaired. The seller told me that they didn’t know about this and after checking it was 2 years before they bought it so tend to believe them but What can I do? Can I return the car for a refund? Read more
Thanks for the advice!
I miss the time when there was a motoring pull out from HJ in the Telegraph on a weekend, the driving tips from the expert, was it Paul Ripley?, were great. The car reviews and readers problems answered were so interesting. Once HJ's section was left to fade away it was followed by me stopping getting the paper. There was so much knowledge in there to absorb and I had great faith in HJ's opinions. Would have loved his input when my 2012 black SLK's roof warped when the sun shone, Mercedes fobbed me off with all sorts of persiflage, HJ would have had good advice on that! Read more
Enjoyed the old HJ Saturday very much. Agree the DT motoring section is now just a sponsored editorial. It’s the same in other weekend “broad sheets” too…endless reviews of cars costing upwards of £50k with very little journalistic added value. As for What Car and Autoexpress etc these are just 50%+ full of adverts., but if you belong to Press Reader you at least get on line access so don’t have to physically buy.
If you drop a (non-magnetic) check valve ball, you hear it hit the tiles, and the drain is blanked off, it MUST be in the room, right?
It cannot bounce to a greater height than that from which it was dropped, and go down the sink plug hole?
I mean, conservation of energy. It’s a basic physical law
Isn’t it?

The wee red plastic don’t-poke-your-eye-out pips on the hook end of standard (at least here) green wire coat hangars look purpose built for blanking off mystery vacuum ports on carburetors. Not much less losable, but more replaceable, than carb parts. I only got this running last time by blanking EVERYTHING off and then cautiously re-implementing vacuum advance ONLY, so if the car ever starts aigain that’d be what I’ll be doing. The wee red pips look much more pro than the bamboo I used last time. There are 10 of them. No wait. 11. I’ll have to buy some more coat hangars. And try not to poke my eye out.
No wait, 12

That may only be true (on average) once the policy holder is over 75, not generally, otherwise 17yo's would be the safest group on the road, which they patently are not....
