Deeply unfashionable now, of course, but used to be mainstream, with the likes of Halfords even selling wee sand blasting gizmos for it.
Never had one of them, or a gapping tool, but I think I had a wee brass brush and used a nail file, maybe a pick down the plug recess.... Read more
Had an accident last week. 3rd party's fault. 3rd party's insurer are arranging for recovery and repair, which, due to the shortage of parts, may take some time.
MOT and Tax are due at the end of the month. Can't do these now as the car is damaged and won't pass until fixed (it was stationery at the time of the accident and mechanically roadworthy).... Read more
The last no-fault accident we had involved the wife who was hit up the rear whilst stationary in August 2017. The damage required a new tailgate, bumper and other works, seem to remember the total was about £2500. Reluctantly the 3rd party driver admitted liability (he initially blamed the wife for not indicating - she had to make an emergency stop - who indicates?) but according to this forum premiums still go up since you are a greater risk. She paid £197 in November 2016 and when the renewal came in November 2017 she paid £185 for exactly the same cover. Her NCB was protected and the excess was recovered by our uninsured loss policy.
Dad had an accident in about 2013 which was totally his fault and he was the only car involved. Repairs cost about the same as the Note but we expected his premium rising not because of any loss of NCB (it was protected) but because of his age, he was 85 and obviously a higher risk. As with ours his premium fell slightly the following year....

Only on the left-hand side, the indicator lights are flashing a lot quicker all of a sudden. Right-hand side, i.e. driver's side normal. Read more
When the indicator lights flash more quickly than usual, it typically indicates that there is a problem with the turn signal circuit. The faster flashing is caused by the turn signal flasher compensating for a reduced load in the circuit, which can occur if a bulb has burnt out or is not making proper contact.
Since you mentioned that the issue is only on the left-hand side, it is likely that the problem is with a bulb or socket on the left-hand side of the vehicle. Start by checking the left turn signal bulbs to see if any are burnt out or not making proper contact. You can do this by turning on the left turn signal and observing the bulbs to see if any are not lighting up or are flashing at a different rate than the others. If you find a bulb that is not working or flashing at a different rate, try replacing it and see if that resolves the issue.

Had my new car just a few days and I'm a new driver so only had my license just over a month now, so I am enjoying the freedom and driving itself. I went on a fairly long drive this morning and through a few areas I was not familiar with and unfortunately I'm pretty sure I may have driven through a bus lane, at least some part of it.
I really can't remember that well for how long and when exactly but I'm so annoyed. I realise this can be a common mistake, let alone for a new driver and at worst it's a hefty fine and nothing more but wanted to ask whether there was an exemption for first time offences? Reason I mention this was because this exact new policy was mentioned 2/3 years ago - www.thesun.co.uk/news/12648877/drivers-bus-lane-fi.../... Read more
The London boroughs (Beckenham is in the London Borough of Bromley) are in some disarray at present due to the non-compliance with the legislation which requires their cameras to be approved. After losing a number of tribunal appeals they are gradually getting their houses in order but there are still some gaps. This thread from Pepipoo provides some detail. It is very lengthy but if you read the last dozen or so posts it will give you a feel.
I am picking up a new car (MK3 Focus ecoboost titanium x) shortly that needs a new rear badge but dont know the size I need. Can anyone advise what I would need? Think it should be 150mm x 60mm? Thanks Read more
At one stage Ford replaced these FOC for cars up to 10 years old. I am not sure if that is still happening though. Maybe as the dealer if they still do.
Good morning all, it's my first time on here! I'm looking for some advice regarding selling my Landrover Defender. I'm being given vastly different quotes of how much my car is worth that I'm totally confused. Ebay are asking anything from £5000 to £30000 for similar vehicles which is why I have no idea how much to ask. Is there a site I can access or does anyone actually know the going rate for these cars? I'd be very grateful for some guidance. Read more
I can offer no expertise on LR Defenders other than being aware of the extraordinary used prices they command - but I found this recent Youtube video particularly interesting: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd3cOdqHU08 . It's Matt Goodwin of High Peak Autos buying and reselling one particular example. Might give you a sense of the crazy (?) market for these vehicles.
