Hey all,

I am currently writing my dissertation that explores whether the importance of physically experiencing and touching a car before purchase is changing, and whether technologies such as online car dealers are impacting this. It would be fantastic if any of you would spare around 6 minutes to complete my survey as I would love to get your opinions.... Read more

I'm not sure there are many on the forum who meet the criteria of having bought a car in the last 12 months. If there are and have any questions then I suggest contacting the survey owner directly: Ben Bryan 19691773@students.lincoln.ac.uk.

I can't see there's anything further to discuss on this....

Forum EU and ICE

It seems as though the EU has delayed rubber stamping its death nell on ICE. Italy, Poland and now Germany have expressed their reservations on a number of reasons. Honda also have some questions. No new date has yet been announced by the EU to finalise into law. May be some common sense will prevail and the transition is slowed down? Read more

In practice ICE is already getting very difficult.

In what way, some companies already have fuels to replace petrol so people can carry on using their cars, and are 0% emissions as the fuel burns fully, only problem they have is making enough to cope with demand, classic cars are already using it and its cheaper with no loss of power, or at least noticeable loss ...

I know all about the Darwin awards, My first wife's father was working in Tunisia in the late 1950's and used to cross a level crossing daily and beat the train, no barriers, till one day he didn't make it.. His pillion passenger survived.

Although I spend much of the year outside the UK I still like to keep up to date with what's going on back in 'Blighty'.

We can watch BBC and Sky (using a VPN) but I prefer not to because of their strong left-wing pro-EU bias. TalkTV and GBNews on the other hand are a lifesaver. For those of you who are not familiar with GBNews you might like to know that the wonderful Jacob Rees-Mogg now has a show Monday-Thursday 8pm-9pm UK time. I actually had the pleasure of meeting Jacob back in 2018. We had a lovely chat and he really is the most eloquent, polite and formidably intelligent conversationalist. A true English gentleman (a dying breed, sadly). I've been an avid viewer of his shows and they are now essential viewing for me.... Read more

Here is the app apps.apple.com/gb/app/honestjohn-motoring-advice/i...2 You can see the forum on it, I only use it for that

Thanks for that. Only on iPhone, which is why I couldn't see it. I was hoping to avoid constantly logging in, but it seems not!

Fault has changed several times (including temporary recovery) but has been stable (on two column switch units and two fuse panels) for a while, perhaps in the same way that a house is "stable" once it has finished burning down.

When indicating to turn left, Front, Side and Wing indicators on the LHS dont flash, but both Red and White tail lights on the LHS flash, as does the Red tail light on the RHS... Read more

Thanks for your reply.

Its the dry season at the moment so probably less humid than usual, but humidity would likely be a factor in the long term breakdown of the wiring loom.....

I bought a 2011 BMW 1 series ran around 100000 miles from a dealer in Dec last year. Since it is my first car, I recorded the dealer description as below.

"So like I said, sometime you will see this sign on the, on the dashboard. You see that? So that, that doesn't mean like the oil pressure is low. It's just a sensor. Okay? So this is need to be replaced from the BMW because they are the only one to replace it. So apart from that the car is absolutely good to go....For replace the sensor, so around £200, something like that. Not much...I'm happy to obviously to adjust it in the price. But because as a seller I must tell you if there is any problem with the car because then obviously I don't want later on you can come and be like obviously. So this is the only thing that needs to be done by the BMW. The rest of it is all checked, everything is good to go. It's not going to stop anywhere. This is only the sensor need to replace that's it because some people don't tell honestly the things to the obviously the buyer."... Read more

Sorry, but first car 100K mile BMW 1, AutoTrader shows about £3k or less, its not worth a £6k repair.

I dont wish to be disparaging, but you need to be sensible with a 1st car purchase

Interesting story in the Telegraph about a customer who bought a car from a car supermarket in Peterborough and when he got home he found the lights wouldn’t switch off. Later he found a wheel nut missing.

He immediately phoned to reject the car to be told there would be a handling charge of £750 .... Read more

If the car had been 3 years old ( was it?), then it would have failed a pre sale MOT on both the lights and wheel nut issues?

It's been in the news recently that 3G will be turned off over the coming years. It will leave more space to expand 4G coverage apparently.

I live in a fairly rural area and most of the time my phone picks up 3G. Very rarely it will switch to 4G, but it's noticeable how much quicker data download is.... Read more

Enjoy your amaryllis. I have grown them a few times and my late mother was particularly fond of them.

I enjoy growing them, currently got a twin stem with seven flowers. I'll keep watering it until the weather's a little warmer, then take it outside in the pot. When the leaves give up, I remove the bulb and put it in the shed until I want it to flower again (sometimes they'll show they want to grow again by producing new growth by themselves). I feed them banana skins and keep them away from apples (the ethylene can turn them sterile). They can be made to experience Winter by putting them in the fridge for a few days to encourage re-growth. Read more

Instead of a wooden fence like the others, I planted some vine shoots when we first moved in eight years ago, and now we regularly have an abundance of grapes. In addition, they provide a pleasant green barrier on the trellis work at the front of the yard.

Just noticed this oddity.

On both my fuse panels, (spare and installed) the flasher socket has a 3-4mm peg in each corner, with no corresponding recesses in the two flasher modules (Which are not the same. One of them is taller and has a central hole).... Read more
