Hi, I have a 2021 3.0 diesel Range Rover Sport HSE that broke down (in the dry) and the main dealer garage are saying it's been submerged, needs a new engine and is not covered under the warranty. Extraordinary for a top 4x4 marque that uses images of the RR Sports driven through reservoirs, lakes and rivers in it's advertising and PR materials.
It has not been through anything more than a big puddle in the road and never been off road.... Read more
Friend is in desperate need of a new car to replace his which is p***ing coolant. Was looking at a few places yesterday, prices are mad these days but we found a tidy looking 2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDI at £2195. 114k miles.
Took it for a quick blast down the M6 and back and nothing that screamed 'do not buy'. Real comfortable, he says it drives well, engine sounds and feels ok, enough power, the gearbox seems sound, huge boot and it has plenty of useful tech for a 14-year-old car.... Read more
A VTR+ will have standard steel suspension, not hydropneumatic (unless possibly it's an auto).
A hydo car will have an up/down button to raise the suspension near the gear lever along with a sport/comfort button. ...
My mate has just brought a Citroen Nemo.with a tow bar fitted but with no
wiring. Has this model got can bus, if so it would need a 7 point relay ?... Read more
Thanks for the info, he is going to get a Towbars fitter in to do the electrics
Not sure what to do about this , the above vehicle is up for auction , I have had a look and the owner told me about the different numbers - he is honest about it
Looks like somebody has done a really good job on the body work and replaced the chassis from another LR . Now to the best of my knowledge ,the VIN issue here could cause problems with a sharp eyed MOT inspector . ... Read more
(or was it a body change? )
No idea here but it's another worry . One old LR mechanic said that if you do inform DVLA you will get a junior clerk and it could go on for ages . ...
This clip by john Cadogan highlights the issues and includes useful safety advice.

Concerning the danger of fluoro rubber components - seals, gaskets, o-rings etc that have been in a fire, HSE UK have some sensible advice.
Hi everyone, so my petrol cap on my 10 year old Audi A7 recently locked - I tried all the things online (ended up snapping the release cord off). I took it to the local specialist (not main dealer). It wasn’t a difficult/expensive replacement but the guy said to me it happens all the time as the motor brakes. I’ve had that one for a year and I’ve also got a new Q7 which is about 8 months old.
I’ll try to find a link to the exact A7 if it helps but have others had this issue regularly? I’m wondering how long the fix will last or when it will come up on the other car. Read more
Thanks for translating for me and sorry for the lack of description! The guy at the garage probably rolled his eyes!
Hello
My insuirance policy is for 9000 miles a year, as I normally average 8000-9000 miles a year. I bought my new car in September 2021, and only covered 6800 miles in 12 months, well below the limit set by the insurer. Would I be OK to reach 18000 miles in two years, or should I keep below 16000 miless due to my low mileage in the first year?... Read more
It's an estimated mileage so a. Bit less or more is fine.
No its not. My policy clearly states that your cover and any payouts would be reduced should it be discovered that you had exceeded the annual mileage stated. It says that should you expect to exceed the figure you must contact them and amend your policy. In reality the difference in cost between a 6000 mile policy and a 10,000 mile policy is peanuts in the big scheme of things so best to go for a higher figure....

I posted fairly recently a trick of putting small likely-to-be dropped nuts inside a thin polythene bag and engaging the thread through the plastic, in an effort to reduce the chance of dropping and loosing the nut, (the post was in someone else's thread so difficult to find.)
This can work, but in obstructed locations the bag is a nuisance, and if the thread is difficult to engage, a hole gets worn in the bag, giving the nut an escape opportunity.... Read more
"but I find some locations, like the current carb hold down nuts are too obstructed"
Stick the nut onto the round end of a 6 inch steel rule with thick grease, carefully locate it onto the stud, hold it down with the flat of the rule and fiddle it on with your fingers....
I found my Mondeo 56plate (edge tdci 2.0), the most joyful car to drive. Unfortunately, I had to scrap it due to expensive turbo repair quote. And I bought the cheapest car that my mechanic had - focus 1.8 petrol. And the joy was gone..I need powerful (cheap, not on finance) car, that will have a quick reaction, fast pull, strong uphill, spacious boot. I was looking for above 2008 Mondeo td, but, reading about dpf, and only averaging 15-20 miles per day (city, bypass mostly), it's probably not a good idea. But there must be something better than my current focus..Here I am looking for make and model suggestion (year 2007 and Up), under £4000 (preferably way under ??). Fuel sort not important. I miss mondeo power. Read more
How much would the turbo cost to repair? It is better having a car you know repaired then taking on someone else's car.

Is it worth raising it with the insurance company? If it was hydro locked, that would be your fault and covered by insurance. Ask them what to do and let them fight JLR.
