Is your driving licence expired if the date on the photocard is expired, or is it just the picture that needs renewing

Ive read if its expired by over 2 years you may need to retake your test does anyone know if thid is true Read more

Under UK law, your driving licence is only valid if it is current and up-to-date. If the date on your photocard has expired, then your driving licence has also expired, regardless of whether the photo needs renewing or not. You must renew your driving licence before the expiry date to ensure that it remains valid.

Yes, I meant to add that I would only import stuff like the Estima/Alphard/Stepwagon etc...can't really see the point with your normal everyday cars tbh.

Another random post.

Generally I use the house vacuum cleaner, it's such a palaver. Now looking to get a cordless one for the car. What do people use/recommend? Read more

A friend used to sell shampoo vacuums door to door. He said the demonstration always impressed folk when they saw the filthy water being tipped out, in many cases sealing the deal (and his commission) He told me that the water was always a brownish colour even when used on a new carpet due to the chemicals and dye in the carpet fibres!

Second car I bought (Triumph 1300 at BCA, Leeds) I took the carpets out and trampled them in the bath with washing powder. An unbelievable amount of filth came out and I was quite surprised to see they were red (matching the seats) not brown.

Like I said above, carpets are an insanitary b***** nuisance....

My car has developed a very frustrating intermittent fault. When I put the key in the ignition and switch it to the on position I regularly see the Deflation Warning Light flashing and then pinging followed by pings for the City Brake Assist (CTBA), the VSA, and the ABS. These warning lights stay illuminated on the dash during that driving session but the car runs perfectly and all braking-related functions are fine This only seems to happen when the car has been driven and warmed up and rarely, if ever, when starting from cold at the start of the day. On some days it does not happen at all. Sometimes I can turn off and restart and everything is normal.

I took the car to a local auto electrician, who cleared a few fault codes (but without success) and in the end I took it to my local Honda dealer, who ran some diagnostics and cleared a few more codes. The service manager said that he was 90% certain that it was a faulty pressure sensor in the electronic box of tricks but that he was not allowed by Honda to start taking this apart and that the only solution was to replace the whole thing at a cost well north of £2000 plus labour. Without a 100% guarantee of success this is obviously out of the question,... Read more

Engin management lights. They would go of when I switched on and off the car but one day it stayed on so I took it to main dealer and they Phineas me a few hours later saying that they will change the complete engine and I had nothing to pay. They have supplied me with a hire car that they will pay for. It's been nearly 2 weeks so far. Should get the car back in a few days. Perfect timing as I'm driving form London to South of France in June.

I've never been one to put a lot of money into cars. In the past I've had a BMW 7-series (very troublesome) and a Mercedes E-Class. But at the moment I drive Toyotas. Here in Thailand we have a Yaris, bought new last year. At our villa in Mojacar we have a 2018 Avensis 1.8. In the UK I have a GT86. I also had an Avensis but sold it when I went back to UK for Christmas. The GT86 is stored in a unit on an industrial estate (owned by a mate - I pay him £40/month) and I just use it for fun when we go to the UK in the summer.

I've had an interesting financial situation come up in that I've had an offer to buy one of my rental properties at well above market value. A Middle Eastern gentleman has moved into the neighbouring property and wants to buy my house to make a large single large property. He's basically made me an offer I can't refuse! Anyway, my tenant will be out by the end of April, contracts will be exchanged and I should have a fair bit of cash to play with. I've decided to buy a managed student flat with some of the money - the rest.....well, I'm getting older so thought I might treat myself..... Read more

I bought my current car for around 60% of the price when it was only a year old.

Would that be 60% of the list price? If the first owner paid perhaps 75% of the list price (as, ahem, I did), suddenly it doesn't look such a no-brainer....

A while back I posted about a taxi driver mate who was thinking of buying a dacia for use as a Taxi.

There is write up of a tragic court case on a few of the Online Newspapers. Briefly a pedestrian is walking towards a cyclist coming towards her on the pavement. The pedestrian shouts and waves her arms at the cyclist who swerves of the pavement into the path of a car and is killed. After a re-trial the pedestrian is found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for 3 years. The link is easily found on the DM ,Mirror and probably other

My take on this is a mis-carriage of justice in the sentence. There could have been no intention of the pedestrian to harm the cyclist. Pedestrians should not be in a position whereby they encounter a cyclist on the pavement. The whole think is indeed tragic but the pedestrians life is ruined also. An argument in the trial is the width of the pavement given at 2.4 metres. Although this might appear wide enough to pass on parts of the pavement there are all sorts of posts protruding into it which would narrow it and just looking at the pictures it does not seem wide enough. It is disputed whether the pavement was intended for bikes and foot. The pedestrian does according to the trial seem to have a few physical problems. In any case what do others think? Read more

Mods have discussed and we're closing this now. Anything of value has been discussed and there's too much of irrelevance in the thread. We may consider reopening it once the outcome of any appeal is known.

Saw a RRover Sport today in hearing aid beige. Man that's ugly I thought. I fully expected to see a Ford badge on it, thought it was some American Ford like a new Explorer or something. Got closer and nope. Range Rover Sport brand new. Didn't appear to be dented but I think it fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Horses for courses I suppose, not my cup of tea. Read more

I am posting this in motoring has I feel it will be relevant to all road users. A 17 year old male was killed riding an electric bike on a cycle path. The e-bike was said by the police to be travelling at some 26mph when it hit a telegraph pole. Police stated that the bike had been purchased second hand and was capable of travelling at 70mph and was rated at some 800 watts the legal output for an e-bike being some 250watts.

The fact that these e-bikes exist and may be illegal is of what consequence when more and more of these bikes are using the pavement and public highway and I personally have seen them being ridden in a totally irresponsible way usually by teenagers. E-bikes are another scourge for the law abiding motorist to be aware of I have not ridden an e-bike but I would imagine that they would require a bit more more skill than your typical push bike especially the throttle operated e-bikes capable of a constant speed of some 26mph with no peddling.... << ... if the number of e-bikes are vanishingly small compared with cars the problem of policing them becomes not worth doing. >>

Perhaps many plod are in cars too, which may not be the best way to apprehend e-bike offenders. Need more 'bobbies on foot'.
