Hi I have got a 2011 vauxhall insignia cdti (a20dth) engine , when I bought it the sign on dash came up with diesel particulate filter full carry on driving and service vehicle soon , so I thought I could drive it home and like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work so I took it to garage for forced regen , he phoned me and said that it had diesel runaway and they checked oil and was about 10 litres of oil and diesel in sump , so he said he didn't want to do it , so I picked it up and it was only running on 3 cylinder and smoking like mad but drove it about 3 mile down road and smoke cleared , thought I would do compression test and number3 cylinder no compression Read more

Police Scotland has spent some £12m on electric vehicles BUT almost nothing on charging points.

Extension leads out of Police stations to get some charge to get to Council/private charging points!...

Hello guys,

What kind of requests should I put forward for a vehicle that wouldn't be viewed in person. As it is across the country. I've sent requests for more close up photos of the interior and of the bodywork. As well as video footage for both also. What else should I go about doing as the vehicle won't be viewed until it's paid for and arrived. ... Read more

Hi All,

First time poster here; could use some kind advice:

Found a BMW M4, 2017 plate, but Cat S. £25,000.

The most comparable model I can find (same year, v low mileage, number of owners(1), carbon fibre add ons, full BMW service history) is £36,000.

The owner tells me the damage (front left quarter) was repaired with BMW parts and to a high standard.

Would a mechanic be able to assure me of the quality of the repair upon brief inspection? Anything else I can do to get peace of mind?

Many thanks,

I'm looking for a sturdy, secure bike trailer that we can use to go about on neighborhood MUPS and bike paths now that my baby boy is 9 months old and I watch him on weekends. The walkways are all rather smooth. I did check at these briefly, but they seem to cost link deleted $50 and $500, and all but a few of the more expensive types have suspension.

I have a road bike and a hybrid, but because I don't intend to travel too fast with him on the back, I'll probably use the hybrid.... Read more

Your're probably right but the link was to a review site where the kid trailers were priced in £.

I will lock it now.

If there is any truth in what the BBC hysterically describes as the cost of living crisis, who is going to buy these "three new exciting electric passenger vehicles"?

Many manufacturers are dropping their smallest and cheapest cars just at a time when money is said to be tight. At least Citroen are bucking this trend with a basic version of the C3 and the new Ami quadricycle. Read more

Last year I settled for a 10 month old Golf 130 Match Edition for £18k, pondered over the wiseness of spending another £5k+ to go for a newer Golf Mk8 (less features, smaller fuel tank, higher insurance) and decided the extra £s wasn't worth it.

Obviously I'm aware of the 2030 "no new petrol & diesel cars" to be sold, so had reckoned on buying my really last car just prior to that date with a 10 year lifespan which should see me "off the Planet". With Ford pulling the Fiesta and Focus next year or so, and if VW do the same thing with the Polo and Golf, my masterplan is broken.

If I'm not willing to spend the extra £5k on the Mk8 Golf, I'm not going to (be able) to spend £35k on the cheapest VW-ID3, the upper range £40k ID3, or the lunatic priced ID-4 and others laughably priced a lot higher in the £50k plus range.

Given the variety of cars parked nearby, I'm fortunate to have the Golf which could be my last car, or if I'm extremely lucky, one more pre 2030...I don't see how the "Average" driver is going to find that £35k or even pay £500/month...despite the number of SUV types and Range Rovers as examples also thundering past.

As suggested, there might be a lot less Cars on the road because of the high prices, and folks will have to hold onto their current vehicles a lot longer.

Can anyone give me the rear brake adjustment and hand break adjustment methods for my 2018 Micra. I hope they are not the self adjusting type that never work.... Read more

Dorset123

They are self adjusting so don't start trying to adjust things you will end up in a mess and expense.

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice please.

I’m looking for recommendations for a second hand car please

My commute is now 45miles on motorway. I also drive similar motorway miles on a weekend for my child’s hobby. I’m looking for a diesel presumably? As frugal as possible, reliability and ideally something with nav/touch screen for mirroring nav.
Budget is max 9k- could you state your suggestions please? Read more

Bit of a shock this one, Fiesta has been around for years. I'm sure most people will have some sort of Fiesta memory.

>>Shouldn't read too much into 0-60 times.

I don't care much about them, they give a clue as to what to expect, no more. My point if I had one in mind is that people now care far too much for them. That Fiesta actually had a very flexible engine.

I think today's cars are almost all stupidly overpowered, even though I consider myself a driving and car enthusiast. I build up speed gently and conserve momentum, as many do who started driving in the 60's or 70's.

I know what you mean about the small Daihatsu's. My brother had a Charade. Daft name, very lively little car.
