I was just looking at a post on another forum where someone was asking about alternator output as his headlights were dimming when he turned his amplifier up. Turned out he had a 3000 W RMS amp for the bass and a 480 W amp for the rest of the range. My immediate thought was why? Music at that volume would render you deaf very quickly. My next thought was that he's the sort of person who delights in "sharing" his music with the entire neighborhood. Read more

I have a Mitsubishi ASX 2019 (69 plate) and I don't know if it uses halogen, LED, or HID bulbs.

I also can't find any videos which show the process of changing a bulb on this model.... Read more

Hello,

I've recently had my car repaired for a dent on the tailgate (insurance repair) and another dent on the back door (which I paid for myself). When I picked up the car, I noticed some imperfections on the tailgate where dust appeared to have been trapped in the paint and asked for them to be fixed. When I took the car home and inspected it closely, I noticed a separate issue: some alarming streaks on the paintwork where the back door had been repaired. They seem to be underneath the clearcoat. I hadn't clocked those streaks when I picked up the car as the repaired area was in the shade and it was an overcast day. However, when the repaired area is in the sun, the streaks are clearly visible. Is this a sign of a shoddy repair? What might have caused these streaks, and should I try to get the bodyshop to remedy them?... Read more

You need to get someone competent to wet sand and machine polish the door with a dual action polisher. That finish is unacceptable. No doubt the polish they used to improve it contained fillers that mask imperfections like this.

I agree.

It's baffeling how high the insurance premium quotes are for my wife and myself. Both are first time drivers in UK having full UK license. So far the lowest I could get was £1100 for a Hyundai i10 2009 model or kia picanto 2009 model, that too with the black box installed.

I'm checking quotes for different cars automatically through AutoTrader website linked to comparethemarket, is there a better way to get cheaper car insurance quotes?... Read more

Speak to an insurance broker - get them to do the legwork.

Ask them to recommend a car that will be a lower risk - remember a Group 1 car doesn't mean it will be cheapest to insure.

Right, I'm still looking for a new car. Following my disappointment with the Leon, though, my parameters have somewhat changed. I no longer believe that there is a 'perfect' vehicle for me and I think (especially in the current market), £25k spent on a car that will always be imperfect is pointless. So, new parameters:

  • £10k-£15k
  • Auto
  • Can tow a small trailer
  • Can seat three in comfort
  • Reasonable (circa 400l+) boot
  • Must be reliable
  • Must be reasonably economical (circa 40mpg +)
  • Comfortable on the motorway
  • Cruise control
  • Fun to drive (not necessarily sporty, just fun).
  • Not really dark inside
  • Use will be mixed short local and long family trips

Vehicles I have driven and liked:... Read more

......a triumph of style over substance and practicality. I wonder how much more back pain is caused by having to lift stuff into the higher boot area - and then out of it, often over a lip when you get home.

Curious comment given how frequently you sing the praise Mrs F's crossover?...

This is probably a really stupid question. I am testing the wiring to a component, I got someone to took it up on Autodata and says its a ECM earth circuit and should be 0v with the ignition on. If I test it at the block connector while unplugged its 0v but if I plug it in and test its 12v. Does this sound correct? or should it be 0v if unplugged or plugged in? Read more

I am using a voltmeter and OBD scanner, I now believe the new EGR could be incompatible or faulty (Although it looks identical and is supposed to be for my car). Back probing the new EGR (when plugged in) on pin 3 gives me 12v, this is the ECU earth cable. With the original valve I get 0v

Thanks for the replies, looks like the best option is to refurbish the original wheels, either DIY or professionally.
