Hi

I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta that I am thinking about part exchanging. At my last service the garage recommended replacing the timing belt for £350. Is it worth me doing this before getting rid of the car? Read more

If you were selling privately, then yes. If part-exing, probably not, because the allowance you will get will probably assume that the cambelt will not have been changed. Why would you trade in a car just after investing £350 in it ? :-)

The front outer edge of the tyres on my BMW 320d are wearing. All other tyres are in good condition. The front are also in good condition it's only the outer edge of them that has worn. I've heard that this might be caused by wheel alignment. BMW use KDS but can this be sorted using Hunter? Read more

4 wheel geometry check is probably a good idea on this car.

Earlier this month I got a letter advising me to renew my over 70 driving licence. It enclosed a return addressed envelope with a shouty message (bit like the USA's ubiquitous all upper case notices) in the top R hand corner 'PLEASE CHECKWEIGHT AND USE CORRECT POSTAGE'. So just a couple of days ago I went on line and completed the application form to renew it. Today it has arrived via Royal Mail. Well done DVLA!

But I would be interested in opinions about what to do about DVLA's command to cut up my old licence and return it. Do I - a) not bother, and just destroy and dispose of it myself - b) return it without incurring the expense of a stamp c) use a 19p stamp that has been lurking in the stamp drawer for possibly decades d) be a well behaved compliant citizen and comply. Use the 19p stamp plus buy another to make up the full rate before the old stamp can't be used anymore. End of Jan I think.

When the 'new' mini was first intorduced in the early 2000s, it was sold with a starting point at around the £10k mark. In that time other technological products have come down significantly in cost whilst similarly improving their green credentials and performance.

This EV only car will start at £30k (3x the cost for a car with half teh range at best, built in the home of modern communism and not the UK) - a car not for the masses but as a plaything for the uber-rich's little Johnny or Jilly as they pass their driving test.... Read more

I have bought a used car in june 2022 from a local trader who advertised in auto traders and also in his website. The car was category s and has 117000 miles on meter. I checked the mileage on car spec and later on government mot check and both showing 117000 on mot which was done in 28 April 2022.

Yesterday I went to a showroom to sell the car as my wife wants a small car. The trader checked my car and told me that there is mileage tempering in car. I requested for proof and he gave me an experian report which showing mileage by dvla on 25 April 2022 (3 days before mot) and it was 132000.... Read more

Warning

It seems really strange, given that mot history is public information.

Hi I have got a 2011 vauxhall insignia cdti (a20dth) engine , when I bought it the sign on dash came up with diesel particulate filter full carry on driving and service vehicle soon , so I thought I could drive it home and like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work so I took it to garage for forced regen , he phoned me and said that it had diesel runaway and they checked oil and was about 10 litres of oil and diesel in sump , so he said he didn't want to do it , so I picked it up and it was only running on 3 cylinder and smoking like mad but drove it about 3 mile down road and smoke cleared , thought I would do compression test and number3 cylinder no compression Read more

Extension leads out of Police stations to get some charge to get to Council/private charging points!...
