Probably the wiring fouling up on the access aperture. Group up the wiring with a cable tie . Make sure the aerial coax lead is correctly routed .

Of course, the downside of a towball mounted bike rack is their size and having somewhere to store it when not in use.

Also the probable need for a light bar and number plate carrier. I recall a trip down the M3 where the police were obviously having a purge on this and making folk take the bikes off the back of the car if they were obscuring the number plate and/or taillights.

Before anyone asks this was not me! :-)

A relative of mine (elderly) accidentally put around 0.95L (from the receipt) of unleaded in his disel vehicle earlier today. He filled the rest up with diesel and drove home without any issues. I got the call as he started to worry when he got home and is wondering whether to have his fuel system drained.... Read more

Well I added Dipethane additive then took it out for a 100 mile run taking it steady through the gears and keeping the speed down

It drove nice and smooth, no sign of any smoke, lumpiness or misfiring....

Hi All,

I've read up as much as possible on the limited amount of information available on the Mazda 2.2 diesel (2017).

It seems they used to be very problematic with dumping fuel into the oil, DPF blocking, EGR valves etc... a lot of the forums I've read tend to talk about pre 2017 models; making me unsure if these issues are still present in the facelift model.

I live in Bristol where I do quite a bit of stop start but a good 1.5 hr run at least once a fortnight to south wales.

Coming from a 3.0 I6 B58 BMW engine, I really didn't want a slow petrol... I like the idea of having a diesel for the torque, economy and low RPM on long runs. I wanted a VAG diesel but they just aren't as impressive as before when they were leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. The like-for-like golf was about 4k more with less kit and torque, is there good reason for this?

Is there anything I need to watch out for? I always use premium diesel and I assume it's cleaner and prevents DPF and Injector blockages, somewhat?

Be honest, if I've made a mistake I'll get rid but I'm hoping I've done the right thing. It's done 47k with full Mazda history and is on a 17 plate. Read more

Based on your reply, this is a 'the problems are still present on the facelift'?

If so then I'll work out if it's worth keeping or getting rid. It would be good to hear other's experiences of the facelift 3/6 with this engine and to find out how they've got on.

I have owned this car for 17 years and it is in fantastic condition. I have two files of invoices to prove it!

Always serviced and repaired at Mercedes dealerships, in fact the service book is full of stamps. For the last ten years I have had the car in northern Italy. No problem getting it repaired or sourcing parts which usually came from Rome.... Read more

So after the AC Delco MAF sensor was installed, it ran OK for a while.

Then it started hunting especially when cold, misfiring, a nightmare at junctions or roundabouts. MAP and O2 sensor forward of cat also changed. Manifold off looking for oil contamination, 2 hours labour....

One might be forgiven for expecting most MOT failure type items to be picked up on the annual services.

In the Bad Old Days, I used to ask for my car to be serviced then MOTed, expecting all items that would normally fail the MOT to be picked up and sorted first. Much to my surprise and annoyance, this was reversed so my cars "failed" or had "advisories" listed giving the appearance of a badly owned vehicle.

The "advantage" of this system listing failures and advisories now allows me to see what forthcoming disasters are coming my way for cars of a similar type and registration...via HJ's MOT Guide and others...

Before I buy any vehicles I always check the registration number on the Government MOT site. If a vehicle shows MOT failures or advisories. Then subject to the seriousness, I know if the vehicle has been maintained and looked after properly. I think the MOT should be left yearly, for the sake of saving £50, is it worth changing. Having said that, annual mileage is a big factor. Why not have a MOT test every 20k miles. Then you win some and lose some SIMPLES !

I see an article in news media suggesting that to ease the financial burden on people the annual MOT test could become bi-annual instead of annual - how stupid an idea is this. Better to clamp down on profiteering petrol retailers.

I am using Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 2 tyres on my old MK5 Golf TDI. I have been very impressed with the performance, noise and wear compared to previous brands eg Pirelli P7 Cinturato and Michelin Energy Savers. They have lots of tread left all over and are wearing evenly and are under 3 years old, but they are starting to crack on the very outer edge. The car is used daily. Is this normal? Read more

They are apparently three years old. The only tyres I ever remember getting crackly were some Goodyears as well.

The 6-year-old Avons (made in Serbia) show cracking in the sipes enough to trigger an advisory at a recent MoT. There is still about 4mm of tread. I don't think my previous Avons (made in UK I think) would have been the same. I guess formulations must evolve to cope with heavier cars and lower profiles - there's a trade-off between all the parameters.

I had to pop in to my local SsangYong dealer this morning and the sales chap said that they are not promoting the E-Korando currently as they have had supply problems and they won't be available to order again until July/August.

They were also struggling to get demonstrators to dealers and wont be available until later in the year, but my local dealer has got one and the sales chap is using it to commute in!
