The problem is drivers see a filling station closed or with a long queue (for whatever reason) and then stop and fill-up at the next one that they see. That results in the second place running low and it's like a domino effect. Read more
When is someone going to start making affordable electric cars, in the 10-20K region. Roll on the Chinese. and I didn't want to say that. Read more
Duster 1.3 petrol turbo, mileage just under 12000. Due for first service in a few weeks and main dealer tried to get me to spend an extra £27 having the engine flushed as part of the oil change. Is this necessary on a one year old car, or just another money maker for the dealer? Read more
With modern oils with detergents in them together with modern petrol's you just do not get the sludge forming like you did years ago.
Our Focus manuals clearly said do not use any additives and I have not been asked fi I want engine flush adding for over 40 years (refused then as well)....
I know the CRZ is not really a sports hatch but any recommendations for a 2+2 stylish coupe under £10k? Read more
None of the 1st gen Honda Insight's on Autotrader, but there are a couple on Ebay. This is the nicest, 353616477011.
I love these things!. Very advanced, not just for their day, but now too. Very light at under 900kg (this is a hybrid mind) thanks to its aluminium monocoque, and very aerodynamic. Because of the low weight, they are faster than you might expect too despite mustering 80bhp between the 1.0 petrol and the little electric motor. And the aerodynamics mean it will slip through the air at the legal limit using very little fuel. The 120mpg claimed by the seller may be possible in theory, but 80mpg is certainly doable without trying too hard....
This is the opinion of a certain Paul Scott - makes for interesting reading.
Using an electric car means carefully checking that it will have the range necessary, which it does thankfully for my trip today. I've already discovered that public chargers cannot be relied upon, because they're often out of service, or already being used, with someone else waiting to use it next. You also have to sit in the car whilst it charges, to ensure nobody else presses stop on the charging machine, and then puts the other plug in their own car (unlikely, but possible). Disputes are common. ... Read more
BMW X3 plug-in starts at £52K. With worse figures, less standard equipment and a worse warranty.
The new Kia Sportage PHEV is perhaps the nearest rival to the RAV4, starting at £38.5K...
I have had two Tucsons. Both from new. One from 2017 and one from 2021.
Both diesels, first was a 1.7TDI, the current one is a 1.6TDI MHEV.... Read more
In specific places there may be Radio Frequency (RF) interference - when I had my Subaru there were a couple of places in my town where the alarm would trigger when the car was unlocked - one was at a car spares shop on an industrial estate, so I suspect one of the nearby industries - the other in a town centre - modern cars will have much motre electronics than that Subaru.
A full diagnostic scan should identify the modules affected but that's not the same as proving it's RF interference.
I live in the Midlands and have found fuel of all types to be non-existent ysterday in my town and surrounding area.
I know this is due to the protests at the fuel depots and refineries so is this just a local thing or have others found the same problem in the rest of the country.
I have not watched the news of late but nothing seems to be mentioned Read more
Same here in Northampton. No diesel anywhere.
Mrs B was able to fill up earlier in the week but has just reported Sainsbury's at Sixfields Northampton out of diesel.
I've taken the screeching alternator off and am wondering what sort of daylight range I might expect of a fully charged 45 amp hour battery.
In daylight the only electrical load will be the ignition system, brake lights and indicators, but it'll have to be started a couple of times too.... Read more
From a bit of Internyeting seems alternator pulleys are about 70 ft-lbs, so those presets (IF I'm interpreting them correctly) aren't very useful for that, but perhaps it isn't critical and those values are for things that typically are?
What's the point in cashing in, if you cannot obtain the car you want? Read more
Let me guess, your "Used/Pre Owned" car is going down in value...no, let me think here, I know, I'll rush out and buy an even more expensive NEW car...genius.

Local taxi driver now has an MG5 estate electric, he likes the range and the boot size.
He previously had Skoda after Skoda but decided to change to MG due to the better package and the positive experience of another taxi driver with an MG5
Skoda have lost the budget market and the taxi trade in the past 5 years, I hope they can get enough sales in the crowded middle market.
The fuel supply situation in the UK has been a topic of concern, with reports of protests causing disruptions at oil depots and leading to delays in fuel deliveries. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has also contributed to the volatility in fuel prices, with the war leading to fluctuations in oil and gas markets. I was writing a dissertation on this topic a few months ago, and I must tell you that with the help of dissertation service academized.com/dissertation-writing-service I was able to receive support in crafting a well-researched and comprehensive dissertation on this critical topic. When it comes to addressing these complex issues in a scholarly context, it may be valuable to consider conducting in-depth research and analysis with help of professionals.
