Hi I have a 2013 vauxhall insignia 2.0 cdti vx-line manual, I am getting poor MPG. The car only has 65000 on the clock and has been serviced all its life by vauxhall according to the service book. I am currently only getting 28.5mpg on a run and around town and seams sluggish when driving up hills. I have had a new turbo and boost controller fitted that has helped with the power a bit but still not wright and I am at the end of my tether and don't want to waste any more money on just chucking parts at it. Please has anyone else had this issue and now how to cure.please help tha ks. Read more
I have been hunting around a new car, as my one is many years old.
My budget was around £9k for a family hatchback (or estate) around 40k to 50k (pre pandamic). I was looking at 4 year old cars.... Read more
<< The reason why houses are now so costly is thanks to inflation (money-printing) >>
That's not the only reason. Demand exceeds supply in many areas, which can have a similar effect.
Morning
A popular topic everywhere at the moment but here are my views. I currently do a 20 mile round commute so something like a hybrid (circa 30 miles on electric ) looks to make sense. However my neighbour had a 330e it does round 25 miles on electric it costs him around £3.50 to charge overnight. So my point is is going to cost me around £18 a week to charge whereas it costing my the same in diesel? This doesn’t take into account cost of changing cars, electric point install at home etc. Is this the fall down of hybrids? Read more
The cost per KWh for home consumption is ~30p. A typical EV will do 3-4 miles per KWh - a cost 0f 7.5-10.0p per mile.
Away from home the supplier provides parking bays, maintenance, payment systems, investment, etc + profit. Possibly premium for charger speed, convenience and availability....
Have just purchased a 2012 ford transit van and notice that the headlights and side lights come on when I start the vehicle and stay on until I turn the ignition off.
Sometimes I have to turn the key several times before the starter motor comes to life.... Read more
The first issue with the headlights is not a problem ,it's a characteristic of the vehicle. With the ignition on, the headlights become the drls .(daytime running lights). The starter motor problem could be related to the battery and/or the connections to it. check under the driver seat ,some of these transit models have 2 batteries. Intermittant starter operation could be a faulty ignition switch .Common issue but cheap and easy to fix.
I've got a 12 plate Renault grand scenic 1.6 dci, 85000 miles.
Normally I wouldn't have kept a car so long, but I've owned it 7 years now. I was looking to replace last year but the prices rocketed and have been the same or worse since.... Read more
I ended up cancelling the motability car.
Main reasons that put me off is there is a widespread issue with the ZS EV being bricked on rapid chargers....

Probably the wiring fouling up on the access aperture. Group up the wiring with a cable tie . Make sure the aerial coax lead is correctly routed .

Of course, the downside of a towball mounted bike rack is their size and having somewhere to store it when not in use.
Also the probable need for a light bar and number plate carrier. I recall a trip down the M3 where the police were obviously having a purge on this and making folk take the bikes off the back of the car if they were obscuring the number plate and/or taillights.
Before anyone asks this was not me! :-)
A relative of mine (elderly) accidentally put around 0.95L (from the receipt) of unleaded in his disel vehicle earlier today. He filled the rest up with diesel and drove home without any issues. I got the call as he started to worry when he got home and is wondering whether to have his fuel system drained.... Read more
Well I added Dipethane additive then took it out for a 100 mile run taking it steady through the gears and keeping the speed down
It drove nice and smooth, no sign of any smoke, lumpiness or misfiring....
Hi All,
I've read up as much as possible on the limited amount of information available on the Mazda 2.2 diesel (2017).
It seems they used to be very problematic with dumping fuel into the oil, DPF blocking, EGR valves etc... a lot of the forums I've read tend to talk about pre 2017 models; making me unsure if these issues are still present in the facelift model.
I live in Bristol where I do quite a bit of stop start but a good 1.5 hr run at least once a fortnight to south wales.
Coming from a 3.0 I6 B58 BMW engine, I really didn't want a slow petrol... I like the idea of having a diesel for the torque, economy and low RPM on long runs. I wanted a VAG diesel but they just aren't as impressive as before when they were leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. The like-for-like golf was about 4k more with less kit and torque, is there good reason for this?
Is there anything I need to watch out for? I always use premium diesel and I assume it's cleaner and prevents DPF and Injector blockages, somewhat?
Be honest, if I've made a mistake I'll get rid but I'm hoping I've done the right thing. It's done 47k with full Mazda history and is on a 17 plate. Read more
Based on your reply, this is a 'the problems are still present on the facelift'?
If so then I'll work out if it's worth keeping or getting rid. It would be good to hear other's experiences of the facelift 3/6 with this engine and to find out how they've got on.
I have owned this car for 17 years and it is in fantastic condition. I have two files of invoices to prove it!
Always serviced and repaired at Mercedes dealerships, in fact the service book is full of stamps. For the last ten years I have had the car in northern Italy. No problem getting it repaired or sourcing parts which usually came from Rome.... Read more
So after the AC Delco MAF sensor was installed, it ran OK for a while.
Then it started hunting especially when cold, misfiring, a nightmare at junctions or roundabouts. MAP and O2 sensor forward of cat also changed. Manifold off looking for oil contamination, 2 hours labour....

Hi
Had the turbo changed be case it lost power and went into limp mode. When I took it to garage they told me the codes were saying failed turbo and stuck veins. So have had a new turbo and new boost controller plus the intercooler pipe replaced as I no these are common to fail. Since this the power has come back apart from a slight dead spot until it gets to 1500 rpm then goes. Am not got any fault codes any more. I have also just fitted new discs and pads all round this weekend to eliminate brake binding.
