Keep finding that after topping up to Full on the dipstick of my Mazda Cx3 that the level will settle to midway point 500 miles later. Is this normal?
Most previous cars I’ve owned stay at full when fully topped up. Read more
Renault and Nissan seem to hit modern safety targets relatively high and constant, not so with Dacia. I was reading a thread here about the Jogger and the Spring; both sound like interesting cars, although for different usage, so I had a look at their safety record, and it seems something is going amiss with this brand.
Zero stars? For the Zoe, 1 star for the Jogger, 1 star for the Spring?... Read more
"""By modern standards, absolute death traps, but most of us who drove such things are still here and with good driving records. """
The idea is not to hit anything or for that matter not to get hit by something else. Back in those days it was a pleasure to be driving with relatively little traffic around and most cars not capable of speeds we see today. You could buy something more modern for about £30.
Hi I have a 2013 vauxhall insignia 2.0 cdti vx-line manual, I am getting poor MPG. The car only has 65000 on the clock and has been serviced all its life by vauxhall according to the service book. I am currently only getting 28.5mpg on a run and around town and seams sluggish when driving up hills. I have had a new turbo and boost controller fitted that has helped with the power a bit but still not wright and I am at the end of my tether and don't want to waste any more money on just chucking parts at it. Please has anyone else had this issue and now how to cure.please help tha ks. Read more
Hi
Had the turbo changed be case it lost power and went into limp mode. When I took it to garage they told me the codes were saying failed turbo and stuck veins. So have had a new turbo and new boost controller plus the intercooler pipe replaced as I no these are common to fail. Since this the power has come back apart from a slight dead spot until it gets to 1500 rpm then goes. Am not got any fault codes any more. I have also just fitted new discs and pads all round this weekend to eliminate brake binding.
I have been hunting around a new car, as my one is many years old.
My budget was around £9k for a family hatchback (or estate) around 40k to 50k (pre pandamic). I was looking at 4 year old cars.... Read more

That's not the only reason. Demand exceeds supply in many areas, which can have a similar effect.
How Speedcam Anywhere works
A user of the app opens it when they hear a speeding car approaching and films the car passing.
The app uses the number plate of the passing car to search the DVLA’s public registration database to find the make and model of the car.... Read more
I live on a residential road where speeding is endemic. I would definitely use this app to demonstrate to local councillors and local police on the continuing issue of speeding.
The app carries no legal or prosecution weight (yet) but it seems a very useful tool for alerting decision-makers to problem areas.
Morning
A popular topic everywhere at the moment but here are my views. I currently do a 20 mile round commute so something like a hybrid (circa 30 miles on electric ) looks to make sense. However my neighbour had a 330e it does round 25 miles on electric it costs him around £3.50 to charge overnight. So my point is is going to cost me around £18 a week to charge whereas it costing my the same in diesel? This doesn’t take into account cost of changing cars, electric point install at home etc. Is this the fall down of hybrids? Read more
The cost per KWh for home consumption is ~30p. A typical EV will do 3-4 miles per KWh - a cost 0f 7.5-10.0p per mile.
Away from home the supplier provides parking bays, maintenance, payment systems, investment, etc + profit. Possibly premium for charger speed, convenience and availability....
Have just purchased a 2012 ford transit van and notice that the headlights and side lights come on when I start the vehicle and stay on until I turn the ignition off.
Sometimes I have to turn the key several times before the starter motor comes to life.... Read more
The first issue with the headlights is not a problem ,it's a characteristic of the vehicle. With the ignition on, the headlights become the drls .(daytime running lights). The starter motor problem could be related to the battery and/or the connections to it. check under the driver seat ,some of these transit models have 2 batteries. Intermittant starter operation could be a faulty ignition switch .Common issue but cheap and easy to fix.
I've got a 12 plate Renault grand scenic 1.6 dci, 85000 miles.
Normally I wouldn't have kept a car so long, but I've owned it 7 years now. I was looking to replace last year but the prices rocketed and have been the same or worse since.... Read more
I ended up cancelling the motability car.
Main reasons that put me off is there is a widespread issue with the ZS EV being bricked on rapid chargers....
I've observed how most contributors seem very happy with their cars - even if quick to point out the faults and unreliability of other makes. Over the past 50+ years I've bought British, French, Italian, German, Swedish and Japanese cars - some new or nearly new and others second hand (memorably a VW Beetle that I kept the doors shut with a piece a rope pulling the driver & passenger doors towards each other!
Most have been reliable (exceptions were Peugeot and other VWs) but I can't think of any cars that I regretted buying / owning at the time.... Read more

Probably the wiring fouling up on the access aperture. Group up the wiring with a cable tie . Make sure the aerial coax lead is correctly routed .
I’ve got lots of excellent comments on checking oil now-thanks
