I have a full car licence from 1980. I have a modern 50 km/h-restricted 50cc scooter.

It's my understanding that my licence entitles me to ride this scooter, without L plates. And that although it's advisable, I don't strictly have to pass a CBT.... Read more

Thanks for the reply,

yes, that does seem to clarify things (apart from the daft wording of the post-2001 section, as Tom notes)....

President Macron and his government as major shareholders have apparently authorised the resumption of Renault car production in Russia.

This comes as a surprise taking into account other European manufacturers response to the Ukraine Crisis! Read more

Extending the logic to 100cc motorbikes makes no sense.

In my opinion opening cycle lanes to any mechanically powered vehicle makes equal sense., as plenty of permitted users would abuse their permit. The only qualification would be that the rider has little crash protection - which, as we all know, some regard as an important criterion when buying a car.

so the extra cost is £12000 and bit more than a Sportage 2

And careful you don't go over £40000 with the higher specs. Read more

I think that full EV’s are getting better all the time and (cost aside) would suit most people.
If you want real world range and long journey reviews, look on YouTube to a guy called Richard Symonds, who has a channel called rsev. His reviews show that long journeys are fairly easily achieved, and charging ( especially if using Tesla superchargers) can be completed whilst the driver has a comfort break and a coffee. Some of the latest Audi and Korean cars charge at an even faster rate than a Tesla.

I'm still reaping the benefits today. I got (there was still oversupply in 2006) a Mazda3 RHD Euro import for 25-30% less than the list price. A little over ten Grand for new mid-spec C-sector car.

It made up for my previous Micra being not exactly cheap (still a good car) when I bought it in 1998 for £6.4k as a 2yo second hand car....

Nearly 40k for this. Must be joking. Wouldn’t pay 25k for one. No wonder people are sticking with existing fossil fuel vehicles. Prices are ridiculous for even the basic PHEV vehicles that are on sale. Save your money on all this expensive leasing as well. Biggest rip-off ever. Read more

100% agree with you, this hybrid / Electric lark is taking the Michael, especially these days with not only drivers being ripped off at every opportunity, we have everything else biting massive chunks from our hard earned money.
Like you I am sticking with “fossil” fuel cars and will enjoy them whilst I can just about to manage a litre of fuel in them!!

2002 corsa failed just over the limit on 2nd lambda reading, have changed both sensors, spark plugs, air filter, oil change, temp sensor, oil filter, repaired small hole in exhaust, cleaned throttle block, etc. Even had a camera put into the CAT and shows no breaks or anything. Still just over the limit to pass! Used lots of engine & cat cleaner. Mechanic said may be a little too much fuel going thru the engine? No faults on diagnostics and no Engine light. Diagnostics says sensors are doing their job and nothing jumping out to suggest what may be wrong? Any one have any ideas what else we could do?! All i can think is to fill it up with E5 petrol and see if that does it as its been using E10?! Read more

Use this small company, very knowledgeable, I've used them for motorcycle injectors.

I don't think I'd use any company that didn't put their address or phone number on their website.

If you send a set of injectors for test and cleaning you are told the address to send them to....

I need to clean my idle control valve, I’m getting a rough idle and think it’s down to that. Problem is, I can’t locate it! I have a 2013 petrol vauxhall Adam. If anyone could locate it on a picture of what’s under the hood I would be eternally grateful! Read more

As the car is basically a Corsa , the most common cause of rough idle is likely to be ignition related . Spark plugs and/or coil pack cassette are the usual suspects .

Has anyone else had a fun Saturday trying to get the Saharan sand that blew in last week off their car? We had travelled down from Scotland to Suffolk last week, left the car for a few days and discovered it plastered in the stuff on the morning we were due to return. Ironically although it was left by the promenade adjacent to Southwold beach (if anyone knows it), turns out it wasn't local Suffolk sand, oh no! turns out it was nasty foreign Saharan sand causing all the problems! (I'll refrain from making jokes referencing the Daily Express here).

It seems to be incredibly fine sand, getting into every nook and cranny and proving very difficult to shift off the paintwork despite my having waxed the car before we left. I ended up having to T-Cut the Auris today after washing it, which wasn't too arduous admittedly as it's been lovely and sunny back here in Scotland today.... Read more

I spent many years in the middle-East in various places and washing cars is not too popular, never saw a vw Touareg getting washed or a Touareg washing their Land Cruisers.
