One 'feature' I would NEVER miss are the plastic seat covers. Man did they get hot in summer. Out come the towels to protect us from getting burned.

I need a new battery for my 2016 Hyunai Tucson (diesel 2.0 136hp auto). However I am slightly confused by the range of batteries on offer. Looking at the Tayna website I have the choice of Standard, EFB or AGM batteries. It seem to want go steer me towards AGM batteries (as do all the other websites I have looked at).

Can anyone advise on the type of battery I require? I Was under the impression that AGM batteries were mainly for cars with stop/start. Mine doesn't have that. The original battery is labelled CMF 90L BCI. Does anyone know if this is an AGM battery. It has a flat top which I read somewhere implies that it is. ... Read more

I've just changed batteries on two of my cars. Check the handbook or existing battery code and type. If your car has stop/start then EFB or AGM is essential.

I used the Tayna website to get the right one, check physical dimensions and terminal positions of the existing battery against the description on the website....

My friend purchased a used Volvo on an approved used scheme "Volvo Select". Within 30 days an oil level warning light came on stating that the oil level is to high and requires adjustments. This has happened on 4 occasions and each time Volvo has recommended an oil change. No solution to the problem has been found. VolVo UK have suggested a vacuum leak test to be carried out? It further transpires that Volvo dealer and or Vlvo UK are saying it is down to driving style. The car is used at night as a executive tax and does on average 100 miles per shift in South West London/ Surrey. The car has done 10 k miles since purchased and has 6 months of warranty remaining. The first issue was reported within 30 days. Prior to this my friend drove over 500k miles on two Mercedes E Class Diesels with no DPF issues.

Thanks for any advice/comments and suggestions. Read more

I dont have any experience of DPF or catalyst equipped vehicles, and dont much want any, but the usage pattern described seems like it should allow passive DPF regen.

Classically, oil dilution is down to excess fuelling (faulty injector) and/or excess blowby. possibly caused by bore wear or stuck piston rings.

Bore and/or ring wear would normally imply a high total mileage, which is not given

I dont have any experience with modern (OBD2 etc) cars either, but understand they should report fueling data to tell you if they are running rich, (Not sure if this applies to diesels) and/or you could get an emission test done.

Compression or leakdown test would tell you if excessive blowby is likely,...

Will come with Mazda developed 3.0-litre petrol and 3.3-litre diesel straight-six engines – both will be on sale by 2023. Anyone else a little bit excited to see Mazda producing something interesting again?

Looks suspiciously like a Toyota RAV4 with a Mazda front end glued on.

Only if you need a visit to Specsavers, better get an appointment PDQ SLO.

Hi all, looking for some advice on the best used car for a relative. Needs to be reliable, economical to run but still decent to drive and not too much of an ‘older person car’!

Budget is £6-7k but that doesn’t seem to get you much at the moment. Car will be mostly used for shortish journeys around town and some short motorway trips. Looking for petrol, <£30 tax and something that will last a good few years and looks decent. Any suggestions appreciated Read more

I’d shortlist the following, Ford Fiesta 1.25 petrol (avoid the 1.0 Ecoboost), Mazda 2 1.5 petrol, Mk IV Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 petrol and Suzuki Swift 1.2 petrol. All are good to drive and totally dependable. I’d buy on condition and history but If all things were equal a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec would be on my drive.

Hi all. I'm looking at buying a Berlingo or Peugeot Partner. I've seen a 2013 model which has only done 46k miles. What are your thoughts on very low mileage cars? This example was doing 8k or so a year but the last 4 years has only been doing 2 or 3 k a year. At one point I bought a wheelchair accessible car (Mercedes Vaneo) and it was the most unreliable car I have owned and it was a very low mileage too. I worry that with such a low mileage the engine won't have been warmed up properly etc.

My budget is £6000 maximum, I'd prefer £4k. I'd like an automatic but only if it's a torque converter as I'm not sure a dual clutch thingy offers any advantage over a manual and probably costs more when the clutches wear out. As it goes now I'm looking at spending maybe a grand getting the advisories on my Sorento sorted out rather than paying the somewhat inflated prices that are being asked for second hand cars at the moment. If I can keep it going for another 2 years hopefully things will have settled down. ??

Is it a diesel? The heater could be removing more heat than the engine's producing.

Got to agree with slo, don't bother even looking at the MG, awful things.

BBD's suggestion of a Celerio is a good one as are slo's suggestions.
