Horn stopped working yesterday. Brake lights work, so assume fuse # 21 is OK. I can hear clicking under steering wheel when pressing the horn switch so also assume "relay" - if there is one (?) is also working properly. Is there anything else to try before pulling the front bumper ( why do they put horns in such inaccessible places) ? Thank you for any help / tips. Read more

Has anyone experienced excessive outside tyre wear (both front tyres) with their Merc A class or Merc GLA? I seem to be going through a set of front tyres every year on my A class Sport (under 10,000 miles). I recently purchased a 2016 GLA and this seems to be going the same way with the tyre wear. Neither vehicles are pulling to the side and steering seems straight. I'm going to take both for a 4 wheel alignment but thought I would try get some advice to see if this is a common Merc issue. Hi all,

Ive had a wheel bearing/Hub start to fail on my car after being fitted 14 months ago and not covering even 18k miles.... Read more

I wasn't saying all parts from Ebay are dodgy, but you do have to be very careful. Apparently there is a large problem in the quality of cam followers used when re-building some American V8 engines. Many reputable workshops are having their engines fail, and it's proving very difficult to get reliable followers from any source. At least a wheel bearing isn't too expensive, but still very annoying. Duff parts is nothing new. I replaced the rotor arm as part of a standard service on my old 1980 Fiesta, probably around 1985. It was Ford labelled from a local motor spares shop. It wore down within weeks and the car would barely run. Fortunately I kept the old one, so it went back in and worked fine until I sold the car a couple of years later.

Hello I have a question about PCP. Went into a dealer today set on taking out a HP agreement as I would be free to sell the car and potentially have some money left over, at any point during the agreement. The sales person managed to somehow sway me with the sales pitch and I went for a PCP. I left a small deposit of £250 and was told a credit check would be done by an external finance company. I was also reassured their terms were better than the company I was pre approved for. Well I get home and check wll paper work, turns out the total overs charge will be over £1000 more than my finance provider. I want to know the following:
- what happens if I want to get rid of the car 1-2 years into a pcp agreement which I took out for 48 months?
- if I haven’t got the car and saw no proper paperwork from the potential finance provider, and I haven’t been told I was officially accepted, can I call up in the morning and ask they do not proceed with the application?
What are my rights? I’m also getting ‘cold feet’ as I realise HP was better for me and I stupidly got swayed, very unlike me but it did happen. Thank you Read more

If the only thing I’ve signed is a credit check and I’ve been told I’m accepted, I paid a £250 deposit for the vehicle, but was told I would still have a video call to sign finance documents, can I still get out of PCP without paying back the full amount due at end of PcP term?

That is a pity.

What is? The unavailability of a comparable British product? The ever decreasing level of engineering and manufacturing proportion of our GDP? The lack of available skilled British artisans for the manufacture of such a product? At least her Bentleys with their mid-twentieth century engineering have lasted 20yrs, although I doubt if they have covered many miles and been outside much. ...

A few weeks ago my Mini went Into limp mode, code reader shows P1057 and P1062 which suggests a valve timing problem. Took it to my usual garage who couldn't find the cause but cleared the fault codes, and topped up the oil. It ran fine for the next 80 miles or so then it went into limp mode again with the same fault codes. Took it to and independent Mini specialist who cleared the fault codes and couldn't get the error to recur, he cleaned up something called a vanos unit. After another 70 miles it was back in limp mode with the same codes.

I thought that fault codes indicate exactly what is wrong, but maybe that's my misunderstanding ! If there's no alternative then I may take it to a Mini dealership to see if they can fix it, but that might end up costing more than the car is worth!... Read more

Clearing the codes resets the system and allows the engine to relearn the drive cycle . However, after increasing miles , the parameters go out sync and the fail light will illuminate. It’s probably using oil , another issue with these engines.

Hello everyone, I’m new on here.

I’m seeking for help from experienced users:)

Two weeks ago I took a lovely car on finance after struggling with my current vehicle. Car was purchased from a dealer, on warranty - I informed them that I would put car through detailed inspection as didn’t wan’t to purchase a faulty car.

Picked car up on Thursday, on Tuesday sent off to two garages , both of them confirmed that car has been remapped and DPF has been removed , also minor suspension issues.

I called the dealer, they picked up my car, left courtesy vehicle reassuring me that on policy provided by them I can still do my job - delivery driver.

When I called insurer they declined. I was informed that I shouldn’t be driving courtesy car as policy only covers purchased car on drive away(5 days).

For about a week dealers garage didn’t do anything with my car, I’m meant to call them on Monday in regards to find out whether they would fix the car or find different solution.

The thing is that I would expect them to work more promptly as car was road unworthy - illegal to drive ( I know some drivers remove DPF, but I purchased car with thought of selling it in the future , in factory’s settings, not modified).

What could be my options ? What are the chances that garage will fix vehicle for me ? I can’t have another week not working. I am left without vehicle, with finance on it and can’t actually make money as car was faulty.

Thank you for any advice:) Read more

If no emissions warning light is illuminated despite the missing DPF then it has been mapped out.

Around Christmas, I had some work done by a garage on my boot as I couldn’t open it. They stripped it, cause was water damage to the Micro SD card. At the same time they had to replace the catch. Also asked them to check the seal by the wiper blade, as I could not see one. In fact on this particular model the seal is on the inside. It was split, so replaced. That was probably one of the routes in for water. Anyway it’s been working perfectly until yesterday. Now I’m a bit apprehensive in taking it back, probably the same problem. I washed my car at home, I wonder if water is getting in via window. With labour and parts it cost me £350.

Please can someone advise.

Thank you. Read more

You got a good outcome in the end and £100 isn't bad with labour rates what they are. Thanks for updating the thread, it could be useful to others.
