I’ve visited a dealership yesterday and was essentially persuaded into a PCP deal on a used car. I went in with my mind set on HP but unfortunately made the wrong decision. What’s happened so far;
I signed a check - filled in my details to send off for an application to check if I’m eligible for finance, this came back today and I was approved. I had a verbal conversation with sales manager and I said that’s positive and asked when the car will be ready. He said we’ll do a video appointment to sign documents etc prior to collection in the next week or so.
Now, spoke to someone who’s great with knowledge on the finances etc and was told I should definitely hold off making this commitment and should instead go with getting my mortgage application through first. Can I now tell the dealership I won’t be signing the documents and I am backing out due to this advice?
I placed a £250 deposit. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I lost it as long as I could get out of the situation. Any advice please? Read more

It seems you want to buy a house or move up the ladder. if you have a car loan, they will take that into account your affordability. You need to think seriously about your finances. With interest rates and inflation agoing going up, you need to decide if you can afford both....
Following the Japanese import thread, i found myself on the japanese sites and found these. Looks like rebadged Nissans but still cool.

Hi,
Just had a new tyre fitted today and since the I've noticed my car making a periodic scraping noise when idling, sounds like something is scraping against something else thats rotating, weird to describe but its coming from the drivers side of the engine bay (it was drivers side front tyre that was change if thats relevant). Any ideas what it might be?... Read more

Horn stopped working yesterday. Brake lights work, so assume fuse # 21 is OK. I can hear clicking under steering wheel when pressing the horn switch so also assume "relay" - if there is one (?) is also working properly. Is there anything else to try before pulling the front bumper ( why do they put horns in such inaccessible places) ? Thank you for any help / tips. Read more
Thanks Doc.
Has anyone experienced excessive outside tyre wear (both front tyres) with their Merc A class or Merc GLA? I seem to be going through a set of front tyres every year on my A class Sport (under 10,000 miles). I recently purchased a 2016 GLA and this seems to be going the same way with the tyre wear. Neither vehicles are pulling to the side and steering seems straight. I'm going to take both for a 4 wheel alignment but thought I would try get some advice to see if this is a common Merc issue. Hi all,
Ive had a wheel bearing/Hub start to fail on my car after being fitted 14 months ago and not covering even 18k miles.... Read more
I wasn't saying all parts from Ebay are dodgy, but you do have to be very careful. Apparently there is a large problem in the quality of cam followers used when re-building some American V8 engines. Many reputable workshops are having their engines fail, and it's proving very difficult to get reliable followers from any source. At least a wheel bearing isn't too expensive, but still very annoying. Duff parts is nothing new. I replaced the rotor arm as part of a standard service on my old 1980 Fiesta, probably around 1985. It was Ford labelled from a local motor spares shop. It wore down within weeks and the car would barely run. Fortunately I kept the old one, so it went back in and worked fine until I sold the car a couple of years later.
Hello I have a question about PCP. Went into a dealer today set on taking out a HP agreement as I would be free to sell the car and potentially have some money left over, at any point during the agreement. The sales person managed to somehow sway me with the sales pitch and I went for a PCP. I left a small deposit of £250 and was told a credit check would be done by an external finance company. I was also reassured their terms were better than the company I was pre approved for. Well I get home and check wll paper work, turns out the total overs charge will be over £1000 more than my finance provider. I want to know the following:
- what happens if I want to get rid of the car 1-2 years into a pcp agreement which I took out for 48 months?
- if I haven’t got the car and saw no proper paperwork from the potential finance provider, and I haven’t been told I was officially accepted, can I call up in the morning and ask they do not proceed with the application?
What are my rights? I’m also getting ‘cold feet’ as I realise HP was better for me and I stupidly got swayed, very unlike me but it did happen. Thank you Read more
If the only thing I’ve signed is a credit check and I’ve been told I’m accepted, I paid a £250 deposit for the vehicle, but was told I would still have a video call to sign finance documents, can I still get out of PCP without paying back the full amount due at end of PcP term?
Love this as seen in weekend papers.

What is? The unavailability of a comparable British product? The ever decreasing level of engineering and manufacturing proportion of our GDP? The lack of available skilled British artisans for the manufacture of such a product? At least her Bentleys with their mid-twentieth century engineering have lasted 20yrs, although I doubt if they have covered many miles and been outside much. ...
