It seems that auction sites no longer admit the public and you have to register as a motor trader. Are there any sites that admit the public? Read more

Other than ex fleet 2-4yr old cars auction was never a wise place to buy for Joe Punter. I used to see him making costly mistakes every time I stood in an auction hall. Frantically bidding a knackered car up beyond retail money, not having noticed the major crash damage, wound back mileage or whistling turbocharger the trade clocked.

The best place to find a wee gem was always the private sale. Unlike at auction you get a chance to test drive it (walk if they say no) and speak to the last owner face to face. Remember, every car at an auction is there for a reason. It could be a fleet disposal (fair enough), it may be too old for that particular dealer group (you need to know who’s selling it and what their policy is), it might be an undesirable spec/colour or too up in the miles but more often than not there’s a hidden problem that caused the dealer who took it in to offload it. Remember this, dealers do not sell good cars off cheap, they’ll retail anything even half decent and send the junk that’ll cause grief or anything with a mileage discrepancy to the ring.

So that's why they want smart meters!

From an increase in the use of recycled and plant based plastics. Probably 25% of the plastics in a new car have already seen use as something else, primarily bottles. 95% of a new car (by weight) must be capable of being recycled, recovered or reused.

Isn't there a limit on how many times they can be recycled? Besides, the act of recycling often expends a considerable amount of energy and manpower, especcially for goods that are made of several different materials.

One of the big problems is that many products by the inherrant design are not easy / cheap / energy effecient to recycle or safely dispose (including incinerating) of. It's often a choice (at least for now) between cheap to initially produce but expensive / bad for the environment to recycle / dispose of later, or prohibitively expensive first time around (and thus not economic to sell for the mass market) and 'ok' (at best) on the second issue....

Hello

I am looking for a used car and want to go for a German brand: Audi, BMW or Mercedes

Budget:15K to 22K pounds

Mileage: Less than 55K

Year: Between 2016 and 2019

I don’t drive a lot, around 5-6K miles per year.

I have checked the websites and there are few cars that come up:
1. Audi A4
2. Mercedes C Class
3. Mercedes E class
4. BMW 3 series
5. bMW 5 series
6. Audi A5

I believe Petrol is more suitable to my needs but happy to hear your opinions (I can do 20-30 mile Motorway journey every 15 days)

My key concern is reliability as I don’t want to end up with huge maintenance bill and I am not good at DIY

Having a good infotainment system would be good.

I would really appreciate your views..

This looks rather appealing.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

But common sense would probably see me in a 520 diesel auto with full BMW history and I’d try to avoid any that’ve been maintained under the i****ic long life service plans where the cars only seen fresh oil every couple of years. These need proof of annual servicing and if you aren’t willing and able to fund either a full main dealer or genuine BM specialist service history then don’t buy one. The diesels are extremely efficient and quick enough for any sane person. Look after it and take it a regular longer run to clear the DPF and it should be fine.

My recent experience with our Volvo XC60 has soured me. I remember the Volvo’s we had as a family in the 80’s with fondness. They were solid, comfortable and safe and I don’t recall any of them ever going wrong yet from my recent experience and post purchase homework (which should’ve been done beforehand) It seems the now Chinese owned firm have lost their way regarding quality. It was quite frankly a shoddily built car with suspension so fragile it could well be made from glass.

I won’t own another but it got me thinking about other so-called prestige brands which sell an image of high quality built on their past products yet have lost their way, becoming known among those who know as unreliable and problematic as they pass beyond the original warranty term. ... Read more

Since taking delivery in September I've been doing longer trips. Getting more familiar with its capabilities. This weekend I did 145 miles virtually all on M ways. Got home with 19pct battery. That means the 200m range ( which is like manufacturers mpg figures it's an ideal) . At 14deg C on the day I actually got about 180 to 185 miles. That's going to be about as good as it gets. I'm pleased with that. It's up on the Range from a few weeks ago when it was much colder then about 160. Might improve a bit in the summer we shall see. The Mokka isn't as efficient as some EVs and has only a modest 50kwh battery. But for me it's quite acceptable. One thing is its clear to me the range meter is a bad guesser. I now use the battery pct remaining meter to estimate remaining range. Say 10% is more or less 20 miles. Read more

I’m very fortunate in that over the years I’ve driven some very good (and fast and expensive) cars, but driving had become a bit of a means to an end. Since I started drinking EV’s on a regular basis, I’ve looked forward to going places again. And the novelty of the performance from a Dual Motor Polestar 2 doesn’t wear off. Two things to remember before depressing the accelerator fully - make sure all the wheels are pointing the same way, and put your head back on the restraint!

Trilogy.

Inspired by this I thought I'd ask folks if they'd do the same.

Also, the cost of the conversion will come down, just as the cost for EV's will.

Not as much. Better off just buying an EV if you're classic's mileage is just fine days and Sundays....

I Think the dealers don’t know much more than we do and manufactures are just passing the buck.

Ordered a VW Tiguan R-Line October 21 with estimated delivery April 22. 3 weeks ago changed to October 22 according to my dealer, but could be earlier but might be later.

I don’t even know if the dates they guess at are build dates or delivery dates, if its build date we can add another month or two to that. Read more

no official information was available about the features of PlayStation 6 (PS6) because Sony had not officially announced the console. However, I can provide some general expectations and trends in gaming console features that we might see in the future, including the PS6:

Enhanced Graphics: With each new generation of PlayStation, gamers anticipate a significant leap in graphics capabilities. The PS6 will likely feature more advanced GPU technology for stunning visual realism, possibly with support for ray tracing and higher resolutions.

Faster Loading Times: Expect faster loading times and improved storage solutions, possibly including solid-state drives (SSD) to reduce game loading screens and improve overall performance.

Backward Compatibility: Sony has been committed to backward compatibility in recent years. The PS6 may continue this trend, allowing players to access and play games from previous PlayStation generations.

Ray Tracing: Advanced ray tracing technology can greatly enhance the realism of in-game lighting, reflections, and shadows. The PS6 may incorporate this technology for more immersive gaming experiences.

Virtual Reality (VR) Support: Given the success of PlayStation VR with the PS4 and PS5, it's likely that the PS6 will continue to support virtual reality gaming, possibly with an improved VR headset.

Cloud Gaming Integration: With the rise of cloud gaming services, the PS6 may integrate better with cloud gaming platforms, allowing players to stream games or access a broader library of titles.

Enhanced Audio: Expect improved audio quality and immersion, possibly with support for advanced 3D audio technology.

Social and Streaming Features: The PS6 is likely to continue offering social and streaming features, allowing players to connect, share, and stream their gameplay experiences easily.

Customizable Controllers: Sony may introduce innovative controller designs and features to enhance gameplay and accessibility.

Exclusive Games: PlayStation has a history of offering exclusive titles, and the PS6 is expected to continue this tradition with a lineup of compelling exclusive games.

Hi all I had a Carr accident at the end of January. I was at fault. Although the other drjverr was speeding arlind a dodgy bend, I pulled out of my road (minor cul de sac onto 40mph road and should've looked left again. A car to the right flashed me to go and I just went.)

But there's more to it. I was driving to my mechanic friend who was kindly planning to fix some parts of my car. It had failed it's mot two days before. I'd got the dangerous fault fixed and driven it home. I've been driving for 29 years with no accidents, no claims... And of course the one day in all the years thst I do crash, my mot expired the day before AND it had failed too.... Read more

What the OP will need is so e evidence that the dangerous fault was no longer present.

In other words, a re-test....
