I tried out a C5 back in 1985. It didn't go around corners very well, and it ended up on its side.

Of course, it is possible that as a 20-year-old I may have been driving it a little aggressively.

No cars manufactured in Ukraine or Russia are sold in the UK at present. This scaremongering should be ignored. Read more

This is right at the top of priorities regarding the conflict.

You might be a tad more concerned why Russian troops have taken possession of Chernobyl..

Hi, my daughter has a new baby and wants to take her out in her car. Unfortunately the handbook was missing from the car when she bought it so she doesn't know how to deactivate the passenger Airbag. Anyone out there tell me where the switch is.

Thanks in advance... Read more

My sister and I are British but reside in Canada and Spain respectively. Recently we bought a car in the UK which is garaged at our elderly father's house. We made him the registed owner even though he has no valid licence and can no longer drive.

Between our two families we make several visits totalling more than 90 days per year but, having now bought the car it seems our non-resident status makes it SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO INSURE any of us to drive it. We've looked into insuring it in someone else's name (a UK resident) and adding our names as additional drivers but even this proves impossible. I myself even have a valid UK licence registered at my father's address (my sister's is Canadian) but despite this, insurers require me to declare residency in the UK.... Read more

I had success adding my English brother in law, resident in Aus for 40+ years

I'm assuming you add him as and when he visits, rather than as a permanent named driver? In my case it's the permanent named non-resident driver that's the problem....

Drivers risk £5,000 fine and nine penalty points for simple indicator mistakes (msn.com)

I think this article is a bit OTT, but I bring this up because of things I have seen whille out in the truck, and confirms for me that new drivers automatically have a handicap because INSTRUCTORS ARE NOT TEACHING THEM RIGHT.... Read more

Becoming an ADI is hard work, with a practical driving test tougher than that of the IAM, and a test of instructional ability that doesn’t give you any leeway for poor driving practice. There’s then a periodic check test to ensure standards are being maintained. To say that an ADI doesn’t know how to use, or train in the use of, indicators is nonsense. Speaking as a former ADI and IAM member.

Same here - you have just written what I was thinking.

If the self-appointed driving "experts" on here only knew what we had to go through to qualify as a ADI they wouldn't write such rubbish.

Here's a link to a poster implying that if you drive your vehicle, fuelled with petrol/diesel sourced in Russia, you're helping their war-effort; and proposes other transport solutions:

Inspired by the Jag S type thread (but down a notch or two) I've just noticed that a well respected local dealer has a 2004 Mondeo Ghia x 2.0 auto (petrol) for sale at £1750. 72k miles. No more info than that at present so can't check MOT history etc.

I always liked these (and my x type which was based on it) and subject to all checking out I'm tempted. Any thoughts? Read more

"Tough gearbox" depends on what's got. Certainly the early ones had the god awful Ford in-house 4-speed box which was absolutely terrible.

I forget what a 2004 will have but they were certainly using it in 2001 ish...

3 weeks ago I clipped a car wing mirror and didn't stop. I've received an NIP for driving without C&A.

I have a private plate that was applied to the car on the 1st of May last year. My current insurance started on the 2nd of May *with the old reg plate* IE it changed between quote and acceptance. Obviously I will be notifying the insurer first thing in the morning, but am I likely to be adding driving without insurance to my prosecution list?... Read more

Gibbo_Wirral

I'm adamant that I notified them 1st thing on 2nd May by telephone but they denied there was any conversation on that day. However, on the bright side, they did immediately change the insured reg - admin charge but no change of premium.

Haven't mentioned the NIP yet....

£1500 seems suspiciously cheap for an LPG van. With the ULEZ factor, of which more are coming, surely a usable Transit Connect is going to fetch at least a grand more?. Had a look on Autotrader and the cheapest bi-fuel van is a (tidy looking) 2009 Citroen Berlingo at £3995 plus VAT.

For the OP, buying any vehicle with such a low budget is going to be risky. You really want the vehicle to be as simple as possible, so personally I wouldn't be thinking about something with two fuel systems!. For your purposes, if it is just a case of sleeping in it, an estate or big hatchback (Mondeo?) would do the job. But if you want a little more interior height(*) then an MPV might be an idea. £1500 is enough to get into a 2nd generation Vauxhall Zafira which, with a 1.6 petrol and manual gearbox is a simple and reliable machine with not too much to go wrong. ...
