Forum BP profits
FoxyJukebox

How typical of most media to make hay of BP's "obscene" "gross" profits-totally forgetting the fact that in 2020 the company nearly went bust during covid-plus ignoring that many company pension portfolios will now benefit since BP is a blue chip share. Read more

This could cause serious issues swapping parts from one car to another it can cause the vehicle to shut down. Once parts are coded to the ecu you cannot just code into another car,...

Got a Alfa 156 1.8TS, owned it for 14 years has 83,000 on the clock.

It was running great but needed a timming belt, so booked it into a garage that I used for years and went away for a couple of days. On my return the garage told the the belt lost its teeth while being MOTed and the engine was broken, they went on to do some work to get it through the MOT and put the new cam belt and water pump on, gave me a bill of over £400, but were kind enough to discount it to £360! Nice of them. Had to get a transporter to get t home.... Read more

Quite possibly for a good (to them) reason ?

Simple question I guess

Thanks again for that

Not a lot said about the Dacia Logan yet. I could up my budget to £3500 and get 7 year old one and I had heard the 1.5dci is very robust and can do very high miles...

Let's hope so, at least on the procedures front. I'm perhaps rather less convinced on the reducing max fines level, as a £25 fine may in some areas not be worth the time for parking control to even be there (see below).

I wonder if they also apply to private housing developments where parking control is required? Mine has a £100 fine, reduced to £50 if paid within X period. TBH, the residents association can also rescind fines if a reasonable excuse is offered or its a 'normal' first time offence (i.e. they aren't taking the mick)....

EVs will never be a viable option for the following reasons ;
When the car gets to around 8-10 years old it will be worthless as who in their right mind would buy a car that is likely to need a new battery that costs more than the car is worth. So how is this good for the environment? Just think of everything you own that uses a rechargeable battery, its useless, your mobile phone battery after a few years degrades to the point where it needs to be connected 24/7 to work!
If everyone did end up in EVs (doubtful), the Kwh rate will skyrocket and it will cost more to run than a internal combustion vehicle, the only bonus is its easier to steal electricity than fuel by bypassing your meter at home.
Unless there is a charger at every car parking space at the motorway services, people will be stranded or in mile long queues trying to charge their car.
Not everyone can have a charger at home, those that park in streets or live in high-rise buildings.
Those who end up with more than 1 car at home will need multiple chargers, who wants numerous unsightly chargers on their house!
There will be a growing number of people who think it's funny to unplug your vehicle when it's charging.
We don't produce nowhere near enough electricity in this country to charge all these vehicles, imagine when everyone gets home and plugs their EV in = blackouts
Just use a flat rate for vehicles based on weight, those small and light do less road damage, the heavier suvs and lorrys cause more so pay more..... Simple Read more

A new technology solution will not work for 2 reasons:
1. Civil Servants and their Industry Partners have a history of being unable to deliver computer solutions on time and within cost. A technology solution will take forever to be developed, delivered and probably cost more than the tax it will raise.
2. Relying on technology is a very bad thing. Anything than causes a loss of electricity will invalidate it use and we are already on the brink of power outages as the current energy sources for the UK are at their limit with more requirements for increased usage - Air Source Heat Pumps for homes use a very large amount of electricity to work; we have already seen France use electricity transmission to the UK as a political means of disadvantaging the UK as the existing and planned Wind Turbine / Solar Power output is not sufficient to supply UK needs in the near future - and as the importing of electricity will become more expensive as oil and gas powered electricity power plants are turned off - the UK Green Energy Plan.

Morning all,

I picked up a Volvo C30 3 weeks ago with a 2 month warranty with it. It's been absolutely fine other than a 'grinding' sound from the front at about 40-60 mph. At first I thought it could be the manifold blowing, it's not ridiculously loud but now I'm very aware of it.... Read more

Hi, on the one these intercity roads something hit my windscreen at about 70 .ph. Here's the crack .ibb.co/Jt9wpd7

I would say this is not a fail . It’s well out of zone A . Windscreen check is due to change this year , with the “zone “ assessment being replaced by a vision impairment check . Basically if there is an acceptable clear view forward across the bonnet and upwards towards the sky , then it’s a pass .

Hi everyone my apologies if this is the wrong section, (Admin please relocate if not the appropriate locations)

So I was hoping to gauge peoples understanding of the following event.

Driving on the A34 which is a dual carriageway in Oxfordshire. I am in the right hand lane in my car following a car and a small van in front of me which is overtaking an HGV, in the left hand lane. I then have cars behind me, a Luton Van starts undertaking all the traffic and stops short behind the HGV which I am next to overtake, the small van then returns to the left hand lane and then the car in front is slowly speeding up. I’m following the car in front of me, and the Luton Van which previously undertook everyone in left the left hand lane is ahead of me by about a foot and starts indicating and merging into my lane as im speeding up, he comes right over forcing me onto the central reservation. Im blowing my horn thinking he has not seen me, I have a car close behind me so I cannot brake. The Luton Van effectively overtakes the HGV by driving down the centre line between myself and the HGV. I’m not sure if the HGV had to go onto the Hard shoulder to avoid a collision. After we overtake the HGV he returns to the left hand lane and then swerves in front of the car behind me flashing his lights and the swerves to left back and forth, we now overtake another HGV with another van in front, all the while he is driving up to me pretending to ram me from behind, then undertakes by breaking the speed limit again, recording me on his phone not looking at where he is going and almost rear ends another Van had I not pointed to it.
In all honesty I knew he want to overtake me from the left hand lane and cut I front, but I couldn’t go anywhere and I was speeding up after following a slower vehicle overtaking a lorry. But it has me worried because I feel I should have allowed him to undertake dangerously but I am very assertive.

You quoted a definitive figure that wouldn't apply in all cases: "NSL = National Speed Limit - 70 on motorways, less on most other roads".

Having recently been on a Speed Awareness Course I can confirm that saying NSL= 70 is 'nul points' territory. Different for me when I'm towing the caravan as well as on Single Carriageway roads for everybody. ...
