About 4 weeks ago a person I know was sitting in their car waiting for a friend to come out of Tesco.
Car pulls into the space next to her and opens her door which smacks into the passenger door of a 6 month old 440i - List is over £50K.... Read more
Hi my previous neighbour extended his lowered kerb, driveway at side of house, to give additional access to the front of his house, without getting council permission. I have a 1 car permitted driveway at the front of my house, however have more than 1 car in the household. Until the house next door was sold I parked my car across the start of the illegally lowered kerb. New owner has now placed a no parking across driveway sign.
As the part I have been parking across the non permit lowered kerb and previous owner was still able to park 3 cars at the front I didn't see it as a problem. Now I am not sure where I stand legally. Oh I live in Scotland so not sure if that makes a difference legally.... Read more
If done correctly through your Local Authority / Highways they will insist on the works being undertaken by an authorised contractor. (This is according to our LA and I assume would be the same everywhere).
Their work is guaranteed though I cannot remember for how long.
Just had to drive 10 miles accross South West London, state of the roads is truly awful, especially within the boroughs of Merton and Sutton. The road network is in managed decline and having checked council budgets some councils, eg Merton are cutting even further as budgets are static over next 5 years - so adjusting for inflation a cut of 30% assuming 5% inflation. As an example Merton has pencilled in £1m of investment in road repairs over next 5 years pa. Adding to the cuts from TFL - can we claim to be a world class city. Read more
Potholes can be dangerous and damage vehicles, but here's an example of a road in a truly awful state:

I’m 76 in April so for the second time applied to renew my license online in January.
The DVLA website shows a 10 week + processing time by which time my license will have expired. According to DVLA document INF188/6 I can continue to drive even though I will not hold a current physical license providing the DVLA received my application but one of the conditions is that my doctor must have told me that I am fit to drive. I can’t see my GP, I’m prevented from having a ‘phone appointment and the practice don’t respond to emails! Where to from here? Thanks.
Thanks folks. License eventually arrived today.
I bought an approved used car from a Mercedes main dealer that came with a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty. After 11 months a fault developed which Mercedes warranty service are declining as the fault is excluded in their t&c. I’m disputing that. Should I proceed to making a small claim who is my contract with – the supplying dealer, the warranty company or both? Many thanks.
Any claim for the fault would be against the dealer but given the time, and potentially the type of fault, that may be a tall order.
Breach of the warranty contract is a different question.

You only need to wait a total of 14 days for the NIP. That's assuming your car is registered in your name and to your correct address. If it arrives after that no case to answer.

I'm always looking for ways to improve driving safety. Obviously visibility is significant. Looking at Halfords site for tyres I came across Duxback . I would appreciate views on its value. Thanks. Read more
Myself I quite like Rain X on my windscreen but I'd agree it's best applied to side and back windows - I don't have a rear wash wipe so water just rolls off.
I also periodically clean my wiper blades with a bit vinegar on a cloth.

The real explanation - the insurance company screws the repairers for a low labour rate to keep the costs down. The repairer responds by claiming extended hire car costs on which they make a profit....
