Looks tasty but why no full electric version? PhEVs are just the worst of all worlds - not electric, apart from a measly few miles, and not fully ICE either. Would never opt for one! Read more
My feeling is that manufacturers just use the government grant as a “free” discount for them so they can keep the prices artificially high.
This in turn keeps EV prices artificially higher than ICE cars.
Plus, if you can afford £35k plus for a car, another couple of grand won’t influence your decision too much... Read more
For a while hydrogen was widely spoken of as a possible fuel of the future, but it has all gone ominously quiet. Now the manufacturers are pushing hybrids, which by definition are neither one thing nor the other, and full electrics.
Not everyone was fooled by the now discredited rush for diesel. If there is one thing I have learned in over 50 years driving it is that it never pays to be among the first to buy new technology. Meanwhile I will keep my existing petrol cars and watch developments.
Bought a used ix35 from a dealer on 13/02/2021. Via click and collect. I noticed quite a bad oil leak and asked my local garage to check it out (27 days after purchase). He thought it was a gearbox seal. The garage we bought from said the last owner had had a new clutch so my mechanic thought they may have damaged seal during new clutch fitting. Got in touch with the dealer who agreed for my mechanic to replace the seal and they would pay him direct. My mechanic collected my car to carry out the work today but while starting the job he realised things were much worse than a seal. The gearbox housing is cracked and someone has tried to bodge it up with sealant. He also says that the car has not had a new clutch either.
I informed the dealer who has asked for pictures. They said they will speak to their experts and get back to me. In the meantime we are stuck with a car that can’t be driven.
I have lost all faith with the car at this point. Can I claim a refund for the dealer?
I was also unaware of the 14day return period for click and collect vehicles. I was given no information at all about this.
Sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly received.
Thanks xx Read more
"You potentially have some comeback on some cars for 6 months but on most on most things you do not. It is misleading to imply people do."
I didn't. Having been on the seller side of the equation for some decades I am pleased to read that it protects the seller as well, that is not particularly evident from my perspective. ...
The thread on Avant's Autocars gave me an idea.
I have hundreds of What Car magazines going back at least 25 years. They've taken over too many shelves and tops of wardrobes now.... Read more
Even ignoring the distance, as my wife is a hoarder(!), I generally don't keep motoring magazines unless there is a feature on a car I am particularly interested in. Not enough space!.
Any help would be appreciated
I have a van, which was my husbands who has passed away. It is no longer insured or taxed, but parked on my drive and I wish to sell it, say through Gumtree... Read more
As above, sell it to a trader.
There are horror stories from Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree sales of gangs arriving and distracting the owner whilst pouring oil into the expansion tank to make it look like the head gasket has blown, or spraying oil into the exhaust pipe to give the impression of a worn engine.
Yes, you’ll get less for it, but van prices for both new and used are strong at the moment and it may not be much of a drop in price.

Just bringing this back to recommend for anyone interested to watch the Top Gear special on Sabine. Just watched it myself, it is very very good, well worth 30 mins of any petrolhead's time!.
A fitting tribute to someone accurately described as a 'force of nature'!.
I find it odd that Hyundai has priced the Premium trim £225 above the £35000 Government limit for the £2500 grant. Surely they could have priced the Premium trim just under £35000 to expand it sales. Read more
Isa, they have today just reduced the lower range premium model to £34,475.
Hi all,
with 4th Kid on the way I need a second car with 7 seats for the occasions where we all need to travel together (including the lesser spotted teenager in my family). Have £18k budget. will sometimes be driving as far as France so basically the more comfortable/roomy the 3rd row seats the better. Would like something honest practical and reliable. prefer SUV as live in semi rural location that can sometimes fall foul to bad weather during the winter months.... Read more
Have a look at the Kodiaq 7 seater too.
At no reserve! I would quite fancy a signum with the fancy tech on it, or a mk2 3dr shogun if it is mint. Assuming they have them!

It wasn't only the Starion that caused confusion. I once saw a car in the small ads advertised as a "Cold Stigma".
Hi all. Help needed please. Boxer 2017 2.0ltr. Having an issue with temp sensor shooting up to full scale, only for about a second which then stops the engine, happens mostly when cold but also when hot, sometimes comes up with a message radiator temperature high and sometimes stop safely. Took to main dealer for diagnostic check, told pipe come off throttle doser unit, quoted £250 to replace, told when this replaced the temp sensor issue will also be resolved. Replaced pipe myself still same issue. Have replaced complete thermostat housing including sensor, still the same. Earth lead from engine to chassis didn't look good, also replaced, still the same . Only fault present on diagnostic is PO530, air con sensor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the van is getting slowly undriveable, I am halfway through conversion to camper. Read more
Google "planet owners map" and get a proper diagnostic with Diagbox. Many faults don't appear on generic "scan anything" code readers
It’s all down to personal experiences, my 2012 Mercedes C Class destructed it’s timing chain despite FSH, while my daughters 2009 Peugeot 207 Prince engine has been faultless. Having had many German cars as company vehicles , they have all had problems. New DSG gearbox on a six month old Passat for example. I have had Renault Laguna, Peugeot 508 and Fiat Puntos with no issues, but other people have had very different experiences with the same cars.
