I have a Volvo V70 and for no apparent reason the front and arm rest cigarette lighter sockets have stopped working. There is a Dash Cam plugged in and a spare lead for the sat Nav when required. The Boot one works fine as it is a live feed all the time. This I know because the cool box stays on with the engine off.

So far have checked out all the fuses I can find on the car.... Read more

I recently traded in my car to a dealer. My car has a private plate but I was unable to do the retention online. The dealer subsequently applied for the retention via post and I paid them the fee.

I see now that the dealer has sold my old car ( currently reserved). Are they able to do this as surely the purchaser would have to wait till the retention is done and a new V5 is issued? Read more

Chatted to the DVLA online and apparently the reason I could not do the retention online was because “the car had been untaxed for more that 160 days in the last 5 years”.

Hi there, I've just received a 2017 Citroen Berlingo Multispace, Diesel Automatic. 15k miles.

On doing a short test drive, the one thing that stood out to me were the very obvious gear shifts.... Read more

Yes thanks, a little lift off works well but trickier to time than a straight up manual.

Either that, or just accelerate reeeeally slowly (:

As well as the offending engine mount, make sure a full cam belt kit is being fitted - There is a real danger that it will have been damaged.

Have a sudden fault with the car, Espace IV (JK) 2.0 dCi (JK03, JK04). The alarm keeps going off shortly after the lights flash and horn sounds when locking.

I also noticed that when the front nearside door or the rear offside door is opened neither courtesy light turns on. I also notice that there is no "click" and the dash coming to life when they are opened. Also, the dash information screen does not show either door as open. The temperature adjustments work and so do the electric windows. ALL the other doors are fine. All the doors lock OK and all the doors and boot open OK.

It is as if the two doors are not recognised by the car anymore.

Note if the alarm goes off then when I unlock/open the car, the car beeps 4 times.

Can anyone advise what is wrong and or what to check and how PLEASE! Read more

Thank you. Will try that.

Brother has an 03 avensis. The bottom of the tailgate has started to catch on/scrape the bumper when opening and closing. He thinks its because the struts are worn, but I'm not so sure - I think it might be because the hinges have loosened/dropped. I can't see how weak sruts would affect closing position. Any thoughts, please? (Also, I think hinges use torx/star bolts - is this correct?)

Thanks very much. Read more

"If the struts were unable to support the open tailgate, that would have been all you needed to know. I have changed a few struts - admittedly on smallish cars - and it's quite simple while the tailgate is supported."

You're right, of course. I'll know should there be a next time (a decreasing chance). I'm reminded of the old saying (can't remember who said it, so can't attribute it) 'Too soon we get old, too late we get smart'. ...

Hello, I have a 2007 fiesta zetec s 1.6 petrol.

My gears feel notchy and stiff especially when the engine is cold. The gears feel stiff even with the engine off sometimes. If I hold the clutch down and put it into a gear it feels notchy but when I take it out of the gear and back into the gear again with the clutch still down it goes in a lot smoother. I have changed the gearbox oil using castrol 75w90 which is recommended in the manual.... Read more

Yeah I might give that a go. How would I go about lubricating the cables if they are sticking?
