Looking for some advice and opinions.

End of November 2020 I brought a used Hyundai i30 from a car dealer (Not Hyundai) I only had the car 2 hours in my possession before the car was returned to the dealer, Rear brakes were binding and making a racket and had 2 TPMS warnings. I didn't see the car again for 5 days whilst the brake pads were replaced and a tyre pressure sensor changed. A week later the car was returned again, another tyre pressure warning and a nail found in the tyre which was replaced.... Read more

Thanks for updating, how much did you pay compared to others on offer at that time, was it at a premium because of condition and mileage.

So, not a cheap old car, so your rights are greater....

Hi All,

Looking at getting another car but can’t decide on whether to get a secondhand Jaguar XE at £10000 or a new Dacia Sandero 2021 model based on Renault Clio. Mileage is about 10,000 to 13,000 but hearing mixed comments on Jaguar Servicing charges. I know the Jag will be a better ride and more luxurious but what about reliability and cost of unforeseen things like clutch etc on the Jaguar. Both cars space wise are ok for me. Also considering a Secondhand Mondeo for same price but don’t know what engine to consider as I am also worried about DPF filters. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Read more

Correct

The new Dacia Sandero has good rear leg room

Unlike the new Vauxhall Corsa which has considerably poor rear leg room, a significant reduction on the previous model Corsa

If anyone is waiting until April 12th to view a car or cars at a dealership, do yourself a favour and have an appointment before going in.

There is a huge number of people waiting until non-essential retail reopens, and dealerships will still have to regulate the numbers of people on the premises at any given time. So if you want to be sure there's someone to see you, or that the car you're going to see is available and Covid cleaned, give them a call and get yourself in their diary. Read more

Hello All,
Currently i have a VW polo & want to sell it to get a small crossover/suv.
Was thinking of Toyota chr, vw t cross, lexus ux, volvo xc40 (although abit big), mazda cx30, nissan qashkai.
And just do not know which one to choose from this list for it to be reliable.. i m a woman & do not understand much in cars.. it has to be auto, 2018-2019-2020, i do not drive much & only really locally. not big suv. Please help! Maybe some other pretty looking car options? Thank you in advance.
P.S. was thinking even about audi A1 (if wont find a good suv as almost polo size) but seems alot of money for such a small vehicle. Read more

Be wary of any car (all VAGs) that has a dual clutch 'auto' gearbox - secondhand ones can often be offloaded because they are worn (on the way out) and will be expensive to fix, plus many are not suited to use in heavy traffic, as they will be 'slipping' their clutches a lot just like a car with a manual gearbox.

Hyundais and KIAs version of this gearbox is more reliable, VAG's 'wet' cluch versions next, then their 'dry' clutch versions (and those not overspecced enough to cope with the engine power), the Ford's (don't tocuh the Powershift dual clucth cars with a barge pole)....

Hi all, my pads are good, but the red (!) came on for no reason, I can reset the service program/light, but the red ! stays on! Also has the red 'car on ramps' symbol.

I know it refers to pads or sensor, but the pads are all good!... Read more

Cheers, but i do have the INPA software, i also have OBD2 bluetooth reader, but it only shows generic P codes.

Just thought that a ID CC code, would also flag up on some high end diagnostic gear, under a different code?

OK, just want to close this down.

Removal of the head unit showed in fact that there was no harness/plug in place for the AUX input....

I’m sure some of you remember that driving at a constant 55mph was considered optimum efficiency, is this still the case with modern, fuel injected engines ( I’m talking about petrol cars) , or is there some new more efficient speed, or with computers in cars does this no longer apply, I also remember looking at the tailpipe after a longish run to see if it was a creamy brown colour indicating that the engine was running effectively, as I owned several BL cars, I couldn’t do this as they all seemed to burn a bit of oil, the only one I remember seeing this on was an alfasud I once had, other than that, I can’t remember another car I had that did it... Never really got down to assessing an optimal speed for best mpg, but suffice it to say, that since most major routes became monitored by cameras, my fuel consumption has improved markedly.

Can't think why.

This summer new lockdown not withstanding we are off from Basingstoke to Oban, 500 miles give or take. 3 adults, medium sized dog and relevant luggage and gear. If I used an EV how would it pan out? Need 2 charges after leaving I reckon. So cost would be merely 3 charges but how long is it going to take? The old V70 would make Scotland easily on a tankful, top up round Glasgow and Roberts your relative. Read more

No need to factor in 10 minutes faffing at Tesla superchargers. Shove the plug in the socket and that's that. The newer ones don't share power, either - so no reduction in charge speed. Even the free Podpoint I use occasionally at the local Tesco doesn't seem to share power.

Yes, there is a chance of a queue at busier locations; I suppose provision of charging points will need to increase relative to the increase in EV take up. Looking at the Tesla Supercharger map, there's a number of supercharger sites opening in 2021/22.

I live in Scotland but have seen a car in Northern Ireland I'd like to buy.

It's just over three years old, but in NI it will not need a MOT until it's four years old. But I'm wondering that if I buy it and give the DVLA my British address I might not able to tax it as it's over three years old and no MOT.... Read more
