I've reached 151,000 miles in my 2013 ford fiesta ecoboost, i've had it serviced religiously but now need to look to get the cam belt changed. I've read it's an involved, long job and have been quoted £1100 by ford. I'm trying to weigh up whether it's worth it, or whether to start looking for a new car. I've chatted to the mechanic who's serviced it over the 8 years i've had the car and he says, one done, it might do another 100,000 miles with only wear and tear costs (break pads, possibly clutch etc).
Has anyone bitten the bullet and had it changed? Was it worth it for you? Did anything else go wrong? My mileage has come right down so have gone from 100 miles a day 5 days a week to 60miles a day 3x a week....... Read more

As per subject - what's the longevity like given servicing at correct intervals? Good for >150k? Read more
I suspect the issue with the chains failing was down to a) primarily if the car was built using parts when that machine stamping issue was apparent, b) was unulcky enough to be fitted with the problem parts (some supposedly were fine, others not) and c) how sympathticallyl the car was driven and looked after generally, including frequency and quality of oil changes....
I’ve now had my SEAT Ibiza 1.0 (115) TSI for 20,000 miles (17 months). I thought I should give a small review.... Read more
I have 65k miles on my 2017 Toledo, the 5 year extended warranty will expire in August. So far I have made just one warranty claim, this was within the initial 3 year period. The MPG (brim to brim) is around 48, my commute includes driving at motorway speeds, sometimes in rollercoaster conditions nonetheless I am very happy. Sure I could achieve a better figure if I kept to the left lane, but I never do.
I use a local franchise dealer to service the car, they include 12 months SEAT breakdown cover which includes Europe so any saving in servicing elsewhere would be lost in separately buying such cover - even if purchased as an add on with my insurance. Still, once out of warranty I will consider getting quotes from local VW indies for other jobs eg brakes etc. Tyres are always purchased from high street names but online, so much cheaper than walking in and a better choice than relying on dealer offering. ...
I have just bought a 2013 Qashqai with 60k miles via a private sale. The CVT auto gearbox has failed. Nissan have rejected my request for them to repair. Any similar problems or advice. Repair cost £5400!

Perhaps Leroy1 will update us what he ended up doing a year ago, as he seems not to have added any reply after his original posting.,..
One thing I am not is a car person, I know nothing about them and don't particularly enjoy having one but we're a growing family and time has come for an upgrade. We like to camp and have previously been able to fit all our tent gear + child 1 in the Fabia Estate but with a 2nd child here now it's all become very cramped and not safe to do so. So we're looking at MPVs because I like how practical they are and the MiL has started to join us on days out, but has had to drive herself because of space. So we've started looking at practical but ugly cars like Sharans, Galaxies and Zafiras.
Then down our road I spotted this car that I loved immediately, I've been clocking the family getting in and out and just love the way it looks, it's a white 2010 Toyota Estima and having spent some time in Japan it feels like a car Japanese people would have as opposed to Japanese cars in the UK which feel like cars pandering to the UK with a Japanese badge. ... I am confused now. I looked into the video again and I could see seat belt for middle row seats coming from top of each side.
Do you mean it is a 2-point seatbelt but going from shoulder to hip rather than 2-point seatbelt as in airlines?
I somehow assumed 2-point seatbelt = lap belt = airline style. It didn't occur to my mind that 2-point seatbelt can be just shoulder to hip belt without the lap part (as in 3-point seatbelt).
What about the 3rd row seats? Are these 2-point belts as well?
If you check this video at 08:30-09:20, then it clearly shows 3-pt belt in forward facing position and 2-pt belt in rear facing position.

This is older Previa. I find it surprising that Toyota offered this in older Previa but not in later Estima models!
How can prestige models like Alphard/Vellfire/Estima pass Japanese regulations with 2-point seatbelts? I thought Japan takes safety more seriously than Europe!EDIT: I read your post again and now understood. You mentioned only 2nd row centre seat where it it is a 3-seater rather than 2-seater captains seat configuration....
Hi,
I have a 66 Peugeot 108 which has done 14,000 miles. Recently the engine light keeps coming on for a day or two and then disappearing, normally coming back on a few days later.
Is this something to be concerned about and is a trip to the garage necessary?
Thanks! Read more
Hi, is it a known fault about the downstream oxygen sensor, it’s just I’ve paid to have 1 replaced today on my 2016 108 when I had it replaced the first time in 2018. Could you tell me what causes this to fail? Thanks :)
I don't know but the post cat sensor is very exposed and must get constantly splashed with water. I guess splashing a hot sensor with cold puddle / flood water can't help.
Hi,

20-30, as a bloke, you are having the best time of your life.
30-60, you are more or less a wage slave and funding your partner's breeding programme.
60+ it's just good if you are still capable of doing anything that gives you pleasure.
As members of a tiny little blip in evolution, where personal transport has been something to aspire to, until it's banned, why the heck would you compromise on it?
Get the nicest car you can. To heck with the cost. It'll all be finished soon, as will you.
Bleak view I know, but if you get the chance to be on your back on a trolley staring at the strip lights before you shuffle off, do you want to remember driving a rubbish car or one that you liked?

What a brilliant epistle of the Meaning of Life. You must have had a brilliant education to write something as profound as this
Long story short: car broke down after having timing belt replaced. Replacement was needed because of manufacturer's recall. Peugeot registered dealer did the work.
As I understand it so far, to repair they have stripped the engine entirely and replaced the cylinder head, plus a couple of other components to correct a misfire with the new cylinder head. I am not a mechanic and have only spoken to a customer service person so far, so information is sketchy until I speak to the technician tomorrow.... Read more
Nice one, hopefully some of the puretech gremlins have been sorted by Peugeot.

Hi all I ve purchased an approved used Hyundai Tucson GO 2018 with 17300 miles on the dash and after having the car for 4 months and 1800 miles input the car went in limp mode and the error code was P0731 or so (AA guy done the test) the gear sensor wasn t aware anymore when to go in first gear.. limp mode.. the car was towed in and after a few days of waiting game I ve called the dealrship for an update and the service op said that the clutch wheel bearing is gone and they ve tried something but wasn t working and now they re waiting for the part to arrive. From day one of my ownership the car on first start(cold start) had a horrible judder especially if parked on a ramp or something like this and then was gone. I know about the Dct or dsg gearboxes and know that clutch slipping or crawling in traffic won t make any good to the gearbox but still.. after 1800 miles drove in to fail like this it makes wonder how things will get from now on. Thanks for reading. All the best. A Read more
That's good news - and thanks for coming back with an update.
One thing is though, free tax. In ten years that's £500-1500 saved towards the cam belt!
