Do we know what aspect tyres will be fitted to the 18" rims?
If they follow the European trend of fitting ridiculous 40 or 45 aspect 'rubber bands' they have lost one customer already. ME!.
Completely unnecessary on an SUV, hard ride and high risk of expensive curbing.
I registered with Honda as soon as the HR-v e:HEV was whispered, to be kept informed about this car. so far absolutely NOTHING! Have to rely on motoring press for scant details. WHY? when they are already available in Asia. They must have some idea of U.K. specs.
Perhaps they don't want to seduce possible buyers. What a waste of time. Come on Honda, get a grip! Read more
I am in the market for buying my first ever car for work starting in September. I currently ride a motorcycle but I think until I get my own place I will stick with just a car for practicality reasons. I am looking for a smaller car to get around at the moment - I have no children; won't be carrying much in the car and will only occasionally give friends/family lifts, so the benefits of a larger car would be wasted on me! I am also quite tall and long in the legs (around 6'5) and so I am unable to comfortably fit into many cars and end up with a steering wheel between my legs!
I have limited my choices to the two cars in the title, those being the Dacia Sandero TCe90 2021 and the Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi 2 2018. I am waiting for the local dealer to get the Sandero in stock so that I can sit in it, however I have sat in the new model of duster and found that it had enough legroom so fingers crossed I should be okay! I've also sat in the Rio and found that it was roomy enough and am taking one on a test drive this weekend.... Read more
None of the above. I’d be looking for a good used Mazda 2, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Yaris or a Honda Jazz. Nothing actually wrong with the wee Kia but it’s a bit dull by comparison and the Dacia will plummet in value and they tend to get a bit tatty by year 5, it’s just not built to the same standard.
HELP - this is a urgent question. My daughter lives in England and has 7 children with baby number 8 on the way. She drives a minibus in the UK - simply to take the kids to school. She is part-time employed as a home worker/internet business. She is looking to buy a house in Ireland and has already found her next home. She is meant to move there in May and will use a green card from her existing UK insurer that will cover her for the 1st month. She is happy to comply with all the rules and change to Irish reg plates and even retake her driving test for minibus use if this helps. BUT....can she find anyone to insure her for social & domestic use in the Republic of Ireland? NO - not one single company. My daughter can surely not be the only woman in the whole of Ireland who has a big family and drives a minibus for non commercial reasons. Has anyone got any ideas how to solve this at all - otherwise she will need to pull out of the house sale :-( Read more
Hi Liana
I am pretty much having the same kind of problem....
I'd like to know what the opportunity cost is for all this alcohol fuel daftness. Will we find people growing crops to convert to biofuel and not food? How many therefore will go hungry to feed politicians green vanity? Will Greta Thunberg give a monkeys about the poor and hungry this idiocy causes? I doubt it.
Bought a Volvo V70 for just over 8k 5 years ago with 56k on the clock. Apart from routine maintenance and a cam belt last year a smash from a Post office van that laid her up for 2 months she has been a very good buy. Today she reached 150k which won't be anywhere near some of the cars owned on here but what a workhorse! Read more
My old Skoda Superb 1.9TDi PD 130 was really superb. No major faults, usual maintenance and never let me down in 11 years of ownership. It had over 210k miles on when I sold it and I had people scrambling to buy it. Apparently if looked after the engines were capable of starship mileages. In all I used 4 litres of top up oil in that time, averaged 50mpg and it had every bell and whistle you could want. Unfortunately after that the Euro criteria for emissions killed off that engine and VW have never quite managed a decent replacement. Nearly every taxi where I used to live was a Skoda diesel at that time too. They know a thing or two about reliability. Happy days.

Got the painful job (for me) of buying a used family car and I'm heading to Car Giant tomorrow to see what they have.
Been looking at a few models on their website and did some tax and mot checks in advance. Quite a few of the cars seem to have been untaxed for some time, anything from a couple of months to 9 months of those I've spotted. They're mostly 2017 models give or take a year.... Read more
Well there you go! I've just checked and it has an export marker against it. I hope it's enjoying its new life wherever it is...
Hi
I have recently fitted new front pads and discs however, the back of the disc is rubbing against the calliper bracket. The disc looks identical to the original however where it sits against the axel hub it must be slightly deeper resulting in it sitting further back and rubbing against the calliper bracket. Has anyone come across this before and have a solution other than trying to get a disc that has slightly different dimensions as apart from this it fits perfectly?
I have thought about using some washers to set the calliper bracket slightly further back thereby increasing the gap between the bracket and disc. I wasn’t sure if there were spacers made for this purpose?
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks

I have finally been able to revisit and take the calliper apart, the issue is definitely the bolt for the calliper mounting bracket, the threads in the ‘knuckle’ (not sure if this is the right term) were stripped and the treads on the bolt themselves are a bit ropey. Nothing I can do about the stripped threads without replacing the knuckle which I don’t fancy so my plan is to replaced the bolt (as there are still some threads remaining) and then use a nut as has been done previously, just a smaller one so it doesn’t rub on the disc. However, I am struggling to work out the dimensions of the bolt to be able to buy a replacement. I would appreciate any thoughts on how to go about replacing. Thanks MattPersonally I think it would be better to get hold of a secondhand hub assembly and fit that. You're dealing with one of the most safety-critical components on the car.

All I want is to keep the muck off the sills.
We live rural so mud on road, narrow lanes, muck !!... Read more
Some of these look like they use self tappers? I would not want to drill holes in the bodywork as this would create a rust trap especially with all the mud about. There used to be some with clamps that are less immediately damaging but still could cause damage if overtightened.
The image does suggest putting the screws through the metal on the lip of the wheel arch. But that is a basic and universal image as opposed to being for a specific car. I say that because when I used to fit mudguards of the moulded type, screws like that were generally inserted into the plastic liner. But even if they were to be screwed into the metal, an extra couple of minutes preparation would (along with the metal being galvanised) reduce the risk of corrosion to the absolute minimum....
An interesting article, however, my policy renewal from arrived from RIAS last week (renewal due mid May) which showed an increase of £37 over last year despite following the trend as per your article ie much less use of the car, much lower miles over previous year.
When I spoke with RIAS I was told “we are following the market” when I pointed out that my car had been used much less and therefore less miles, it mattered not one jot to RIAS, so I looked elsewhere and saved over £50!
As you rightly say “Loyalty” means nothing.

Utterly i****ic, and hypocritical, given how does anyone think all the bigwigs are going to travel to Cornwall to COP26 - sailboat?
How will people like me who live in flats be able to comply with all this? Read more
Did anyone hear the Jeremy Vine show today. .
Yesterday he was siding with that poor woman who lost her daughter due to bad air quality and how should we improve the air quality.
And today he was asking due to there being over 400,000 people queuing up to take their driving test should they just be given a licence without taking a test?
Come on Jeremy make your mind up the blokes an i****.
I love the CVT transmission and I guess there will be no manual option on the new HRV.
My 2019 HRV has it and while I can understand someone who likes to "press on" might not like it, it suites my now, more relaxed driving style and help me return 52mpg....
