Recently, I disposed of a 17 inch space saver wheel that I originally bought for a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. Would that have fitted my 2020 Kia Sportage, which has 19 inch wheels? Read more

Hi all,
just hoping someone could let me know if this is a red light camera or some sort of monitoring device?... Read more
It seems to have come up on here before, albeit 17 years ago -
As a French car, surely it would get extra credit for breaking down more than other makes, and thus 'being safe' because it's off the road? :-)
Being more serious, I would bet good money that under the old system, this car would've scored a 3 or 4 star rating, and under the NCAP system from 10 years ago possibly even a 5 star rating.
Yes, safety systems have come a long way in that time, but they are more to do with 'protection' of pedestrians and cyclists/motorcyclists and far less on the car's occupants protection.
It's also been shown many times that these autonymous braking systems are not anywhere near as good, or in some circumstances, 'safe' as they are made out, given some get confused with errant litter or just slam on the anchors in the fast lane of a motorway, neither of which is a safe manourvre.
I suspect that my 15yo 4 star rated car would do far worse than this Dacia, and it isn't 'unsafe' if your drive it properly. I think that many new safety tech is lulling drivers into a false sense of security and thus owners take more risks, driving faster in urban areas, etc, etc. Read more
Well ,canamsteve, what we need is a car that stops for hedgehogs and pheasants in my locality. The others can look out for themselves but do not as motorists are expected to do that for them.
I have a 16 year old Mondeo 2L petrol which feel safe enough . No modern stuff that I do not want as others seem to find these devices a dangerous addition.
I am a vintage motorist of 56 years driving so have covered about 2 million miles and clearly think I look for hazards sensibly.
I do appreciate power assisted disc brakes and indicators. The new headlights are good too and air conditioning removes the steam on the windows.
I do not look forward to more modern cars and will keep my old ones keep running as long as possible. Stock up on spares but scrapyards will have spares for years.
Looking on auto trader at older cars, ogtrn one owner examples, and they are described as having "Full Service History" only if you look a bit further into it, it had 8 services in 20 years.
I get it that it is probably a full recollection of the service history for the car, but can a service history which has missed the factory service intervals, really be described as 'full'?! Read more

If it is a banger, hardly matters if the price is right and drives OK. If it is a classic type car and you are expecting it to hold its value in future, then different matter. I have seen cases where even main dealers messed up with service history. So for a 20 year old car in private sale, I'd give benefit of doubt. ...

I use Avon Avanza van tyres on VW Transporter campervan. They are better on muddy fields than the Michelin ones that were fitted when I bought it. They are standard van tyres of correct load rating.

Has anyone taken out the small yellow valve in the clutch bleeder block on a Golf Mk7? Is it an easy thing to do, even for a very amateur person? Is there a large benefit in doing this to the feel of the clutch afterwards? Any experience gratefully received. Read more

Hi, I have been given a car as a swap for a van of my partners, the person named on the v5 (not the legal owner) has kicked off at my friend giving it to me even though I have proof of him giving it to me and messages since about fixing it up up until yesterday, she had the notification to say I’ve applied for a logbook and is now insisting it’s her car I’ve stole it (been on my drive since 9th March pics to prove so) she has made him write a receipt to her for the car, long story short he’s a banned driver she put her name on the logbook so he could tax it and insure it and use it ?? as he got caught drink driving in her car she now thinks she has ownership over it, need advice on where we stand legally, we insure and tax it so responsible money wise for it but she refuses to allow my v62 to take effect ?? all such a mess he was a good friend but he’s chosen someone like her (alcoholic) over me a person who has done nothing but help him Any advice would be appreciated, atm it’s on a private drive so can’t be touched by them or I will call the police, sadly they are not nice people to deal with

Bathtub Tom,
I’ve now spoken with dvla they are aware of the situation it’s just a case of waiting to see if she disputes the v62 application at which point they will ring my partner for the proof we have of ownership.
Citizens advice have told me the information I have ie messages from the owner and the proof that he was the owner due to trying to sell it over fb and not saying selling for a friend is proof that it’s his vehicle.
They suggested I wait to find out what she does about the logbook and if she does dispute to go to a solicitor as what I have is enough to prove the deal was made between the vehicles and that we held our side by sorting logbook for the van.
Looks like either way they may be stuffed but it’s still a worry I hate being in limbo about things
This isn't your typical "all the drivers around me are m****s" thread. Or rather, I'm the m****.
After hardly driving for a year, I'm very aware that I need to concentrate more on my driving as I restart. As an example, I'd forgotten how to engage the cruise control. Fortunately, it only took a few seconds to remember - and it set me thinking - I hadn't used it for over a year.... Read more
Anyone else having the same issues?
Just back from an 80-mile trip into north Wales, which is no longer out of bounds to us English. Can't say I noticed anything unusual in the traffic or my ability to drive, but I had the (perhaps mistaken) impression that almost every driver was very conscientious about speed limits. With the exception of a couple of hi-vis plod cars and an (inevitable) Audi.

Is there an echo in here?
