Not been on here for quite a while but have owned this car from new and at 280,000 miles the DMF is just starting tap lightly on tip in from idle drive in 2nd gear. The tap-tap-tap is from 900 rpm to 1100 rpm.

I just wondered if it would be best to replace the DMF like for like, or go SMF. I am sure a Cal change should go with the SMF, so just sticking one in might cause idle instability? ... Read more

Extreme red face dept. here. I've been under it and found a couple of loose exhaust heat shields. I wasn't sure re-retaining them would do the trick but it has! The noise is eliminated.

Driving to work this morning, indicating to turn right off the main road and I noticed that the left hand indicator display on the dashboard was flashing. Looked at the indicator stalk thinking I'd inadvertently pushed it the wrong way, but no. I then tried the left indicator but nothing showing on the dashboard, then tried the hazard lights, they were fine. Drove along a bit thinking about it, I had my lights on at the time, so switched them off and tried the indicators again getting the same result, right hand indicator made the left hand dash indicator show, left hand indicator, nothing. Put headlights back on and put them on full beam (this is on the indicator stalk) before trying the indicators again, now they are working as they should, and when I put the headlights back on dip, they were working as they should, and with the headlights off again, still working as they should.

Is this simply a case of replacing the indicator stalk or could it be something a bit more complicated?. ... Read more

Hi I am having the exact same issue as you, the right signal puts on the left indicator. How did you resolve your issue? Thanks

Salem up the boy at the back!! In my experience, the relevant authorities need to manage the contracts that they let for road repairs for quality, durability of work carried out - retention?, competence of those carrying out the work. I have significant personal experience of repairs that could NEVER pass a value for money test.
As the BMW main agent said of my proposed new purchase - “you would be ill advised to buy this spec. Not with these alloys, it will cost you a fortune in replacements that you will need on these roads and the shoddy maintenance/repairs.
Local authorities - own the problem and divert your energies from excuses as to why these craters do not justify repair - depth, size etc; Read more

This situation can be traced back to events 100 years ago.

Under the Roads Act 1920 the proceeds of vehicle excise duties were dedicated to the building and maintenance of the road system. The Road Fund returned a surplus each year, and it was not long before the government began diverting some of the proceeds for other purposes.

Successive governments continue to spend less money on the roads whilst increasing the taxation of road users. This is unlikely to change, as vociferous minority interests want to get us out of our cars and onto public transport.

I am having exactly the same issues, however
I am 63 years old and my license runs out in August 2021
My passport expires in 2025 yet I still cannot renew my license online Read more

I'm approaching my 73rd birthday and I needed to renew my C1/D1, C1E/D1E weight classification. As this requires a paper renewal application using forms D2 and D4, plus a medical examination, the recommendation is to submit the application paperwork at least 3 weeks before the expiry date of the existing licence.

The old licence is due to expire 24/10/24, so the renewal application was posted 25/09/24.

New licence arrived 3/10/24 with an expiry date of 29/07/27, chopping a month off my three year renewal cycle.

Phoned DVLA to complain about the loss of the month and asking them to re-issue with a date of 24/10/27, but they refused.

Following disconnection of the battery, my radio needs the correct code. Unfortunately the handbook was long gone when I bought the car (Ford Fusion 3 - 2003 model). Please can anyone help with this? The serial number of the radio is M155278. Many thanks for looking. Read more

Just did 275 miles with a 2 minute stop, then a 20 minute stop and then a 5 minute stop before arriving at destination.

Went ok, traffic not bad, but realised that my stamina for longer journeys has evaporated.... Read more

Eu0.70? That's literally taking the pee.

You could always bring a plastic water bottle - drink it when new, refill it if you don't have change for the loo! Don't forget to throw it away afterwards and not reuse the bottle. :-)...

After moving to the UK I am stuck between the Insignia/Astra/1 series/3 series. I am looking at the 2009 onwards Insignia, 2010 Astra and for BMW 1 and 3 series it's the 2004-2012 ones. I will buy a car that is 2010-2012 and less than 80k miles.

I have read so much but what makes me dislike the 1 series (despite better drive) is the rubbish old interior, can't even play bluetooth music. The newer 1 series is out of my budget due to throwing expenses elsewhere.... Read more

In what way is the original Insignia spacious?

It wasn't! The Insignia-A was less spacious inside than the Vectra-C it replaced, the poor packaging was shared with all the other GM cars using the Epsilon II platform.

The platform was reworked to become the E2XX and used for Insignia-B which regained some of the internal space
