If anyone is interested in experiencing an EV for a couple of days, Vauxhall are currently offering 48 hour test drives with Corsa-E and Mokka-E. They'll both do 150 miles easy on one charge, so as long as it's fully charged as you collect it there probably won't be a need to plug it in again.

I've spent a couple of days in the new Mokka (including the EV), and it's a big step forward for Vauxhall. Read more

My work colleague has a Corsa E test drive booked for a couple of weeks time - he wants to try it out to see if it will fit in with his commuting requirements.

At the end of the day, the Mokka & Corsa are now just Peugeot's in disguise ( 2008 & 208 respectively )

Hi, I drive between 1,000-1,500 miles a week up and down the country for my work (I work in film). This means I start at like 4/5am and finish past 10pm most days. Since working in the industry I've picked up nine points over time. My other points have all been doing between 34-38 in 30mph zones, so I'm not some kind of mad car racer, just the combination of lots of hours driving and usually driving tired. Last night I was travelling on m23 in the variable speed area. No congestion etc, no signs saying 50 so me and the other cars on the motorway were doing 65-70mph. Something flashed behind me so I'm assuming I've got a ticket, which means 12 points. Just wondered what's the deal with smart motorways? I thought if there's no signs saying 50 you can assume its the national speed limit for motorways. And in terms of arguing exceptional hardship has anyone recently ever dealt with it? I would lose my job if I lost my car along with my flat. Read more

Drivers are being warned they have one week to speak to their insurer to make sure their cover is appropriate for their needs before rules change at the end of April.

You can check the VIN for date of manufacture, also look at the end of the seatbelt where it is attached to the car, it should have a date stamp.

Our Yaris was registered in 2017, seatbelt date is April 2017....

That's a fantastic security method. So when you go shopping to Tesco, Morrison's etc, does one of you sit down in a chair and wait for the other person to shop or do you walk around thus actuating your key ready for it to be stolen. that system is great when your tucked up in bed, but out and about it's useless. The only way is when you park your car is to put it in a faraday bag whilst shopping just hoping that they haven't scammed you before you put it in the bag.

The manufacturers aren't bothered because it is your insurance you will be claiming on when it's stolen....

Hi everyone

I'm not much of a car person had my current Audi A4 Avant diesel (2001) for over a decade and its cloked up more than 225,000 miles and still works fine but the new London diesel tax coming in a few months force's me to look for something which would comply and not have to pay the daily charge... I've got that Toyota 1.2T engine in my Auris. It's a sweet unit, broadly comparable to the VAG 1.2/1.4 (122) TSi engines in terms of performance with maybe a little bit of a flat spot at the very very bottom of the rev range but easy enough to adjust driving style to compensate. Average about 44mpg and nothing's gone wrong in almost a year of ownership and 15K miles. The only thing is that the CHR is a bit heavier than the Auris so you'll need to make sure the performance is okay for you.

Ever since I purchased this used SUV I have been extremely happy with it but for a couple of things. One is that this model doesn’t have room for a spare tyre (which apparently more than 10 years later since the car was launched is actually a significant market trend; I can live with that). The other, is that I seem to be consistently getting unrealistic readings from the trip computer.

When I say unrealistic, I’m not talking about the discrepancy one would expect of 2 or 3 or even 5 MPG. We are talking about around 20mpg. The car consistently displays for motorway majority trips around 55mpg of fuel consumption. At the time, I thought it too good to be true; after all, I had come from a 2L Diesel Toyota Auris and that one did about 45mpg.

The reality is that the RAV4 does about 30-35mpg. And this is what I would expect from a small diesel SUV, so I’m not complaining about the performance/consumption but the inaccuracy of the trip computer.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? And crucially knows if this is easy or affordable fix or it’s something that’s not worth doing (considering that’s not a real problem). Read more

Having ridden 150 miles using roughly 4 gallons, that gives me 37.5 MPG, which is alright for an SUV driving 60/40 motorway/urban. The on board computer gives me 63mpg. .

It's nothing to do with miles vs. km, is it ? Your discrepancy is suspiciously close to 1.6 ?

37.5 mpg == about 61 kpg ....

I've owned my 2009 XF 2.7D Premium Luxury since nearly new and have enjoyed totally trouble free motoring. However, I'm aware the car is getting on now, so I'm considering it changing it, either for a 2014 / 2015 last of the old shape XF 3.0D 240bhp / 275bhp S or a 2018 new shape XF 2.0 Petrol 25t 250 bhp.

I have no doubt that the 2014 / 2015 will be far superior to my old 2.7D but I'd be very interested to hear from anyone with experience of the petrol new shape XF. I don't fancy a diesel 180 bhp new shape XF but is the petrol version likely to be smoother and more reliable?

I read in Autocar a couple of years ago that that the new shape XF is the lowest ranked car of its class in reliability surveys and that were many recalls including oil leaks, engine cut outs, cracked sills etc.

Is the 2018 XF petrol a reliable car and is there anything I should check for? I'm planning to keep it for a long time so will be running it many years after any extended warranties are available.

I was initially concerned about the smoothness of the 4 cylinder petrol engine too - is it as smooth as the 6 cylinder 2.7?

In a nutshell, do XF owners think I should go for a last of the line 3.0 or a new shape 2.0 petrol?

Thanks in advance Read more

I ran a 2019 XF 25t (2.0 4 cyl petrol 250bhp) R-Sport for a couple of years from new covering 12k miles in that time.

In that time no reliability issues (appreciate this was a new car). Build quality was great and well screwed together (no knocks, rattles or bits falling off).

I actually quite liked the engine and worked well with the ZF 8 speed auto - it was punchy and quick when needed, but also wafted along when not in a hurry. The handling was superb. I was averaging about 35mpg with a mix of motorway and city driving. I did a trip from Leicester to Liverpool driving at the speed limit and averaged 43.8mpg which wasn’t too bad.

I also liked the exclusivity as you don’t see many newshape XF’s around.

Hi all.
Ive recently purchased a Opel Mervia 2010 91,000km. Its a LPG/ Petrol. It’s been blowing out light grey/ white smoke from time to time. I’ve noticed more when it’s going down hill and I’ve reved it from 2nd into 3rd gear. It’ll puff out the white/light grey smoke. I read online it may be the coolant leaking into the head gasket. I’ve told the garage I bought it from and they filled the coolant more and said it’s all fine and it’s normal for the car to do so. Which to me a car doesn’t just blow out smoke.I’ve never had a LPG running car so don’t now if this is the norm. If anyone can help what the issue might be it would be really helpful. Thanks in advance Read more

Okay thanks for the advice guys. I’m currently measuring the coolant level daily see if there’s anymore movement in it.
