I wonder if any boffins have checked to see how much CO2 (or equivalent pollutants) it takes to make each kg of adblue?

During a conversation recently a friend insisted that it is good policy to completely ignore the letters from parking companies that follow up their penalty charge notice. She said her son told her it is fine to do this. I was sceptical in view of the laughably named "Protection of Freedoms Act" that has been enacted for some years now. I understood this gave the parking companies the right to access the DVLA and pursue the registered owner/keeper of the errant vehicle. So if the driver ignored the letters they have some recourse against the owner/keeper. I am sure that Middleman or Bromptonaut or DVD may have some current information regarding this and I would appreciate some enlightenment. Thank you.

It transpires that her misdemeanour took place some 2 years ago in a car park on an Asda site. The reason for non pursuance or prosecution will probably be down to Asda not wishing to antagonise its customers. That's my view anyway.

If it was two years ago she may well have got away with it. ...

The main motoring organisations have become so commercialised that they are now more interested in selling insurance and car loans than representing the interests of their members.

I gave up on the AA years ago and now have roadside assistance as part of the extended warranty on my everyday car. The specialist insurance policy on my classic car includes roadside assistance as standard.

Stormy.

What utter, utter rubbish Grant Shapps is talking. Doing away with the hard shoulder on motorways is madness. GO LEFT is the advice, go left to WHERE? I drive a fairly modern car (18 plate) but the thought of having to make an emergency stop on one of these death-trap motorways terrifies me. I have been driving for over 60 years and this idea of "smart motorways" is the most ridiculous idea ever. Her's a suggestion, Mr Shapps, drive on to a "smart motorway" and stop in the left-hand lane, or "go left" and see how you survive.

I have a daughter who is back driving after a year in hospital some years ago - she was a rear seat passenger when the car she was in was "T" boned - it broke her neck. She now drives with hand controls. Her use of "Smart" motorways frightens me because if her car stops for whatever reason, she cannot get out as she is paralysed from the waist down so will have to sit there waiting for a lorry to hit her and snap her neck again which will kill her. I have written to Shapps and others but just get a standard brush off letter. These roads are a death trap and should be put back to hard shoulder operation whatever the cost.

Hi All

I will keep this short, recently a 110 hp turbocharger was fitted instead of the 90hp which should have been installed. Would that be why I get sometimes get no response when I accelerate particuarlly above 30mph, and, between 30 and 50mph.
It’s feels ok in 1st and 2nd gear but lacks response after that.
I also found that the air intake pipe (down stream of filter) is loose fitted, i.e there is no indication that there should be a clamp, or other way of securing the pipe,

Sorry for my lack of technical know how,

Hot on the heels of bicycle and other monthly subscription services, drivers can now get electric cars on a renewable monthly basis, with everything included – even free charging.

A number of firms are now offering this fresh take on driving, effectively giving people a chance to try electric vehicles without the commitment of buying or entering a lengthy leasing agreement.... Read more

Citroen DS4 2.0 150 well worth a look as a motorway car. I ran one for five years and loved it. Quiet at speed, good seats and creature comforts. 50mpg on average, with a heavy right foot. Reliable (but Bluetooth could be glitchy). Wasn't impressed by the dealerships but the car itself was good. Otherwise Insignia B 2.0l 170 diesels might be worth a look with the AGR seats, although even the hatch is a long car.

If you look on the V5C it will specify what the homologated emissions were. We had 2 Euro 4 diesels one with a DPF (2008 BMW 1 series) and one without (2006 Ford Focus). The particles are the important one, for Euro 4 a DPF was only required if it could not meet the requirement without one, the limit was 0.025 g/kg. The figure for the Focus was just below this but the 118D was way down in single figures, seem to remember 0.004.

But some manufacturers did fit one even if not required, pretty sure Peugeot did....
