What utter, utter rubbish Grant Shapps is talking. Doing away with the hard shoulder on motorways is madness. GO LEFT is the advice, go left to WHERE? I drive a fairly modern car (18 plate) but the thought of having to make an emergency stop on one of these death-trap motorways terrifies me. I have been driving for over 60 years and this idea of "smart motorways" is the most ridiculous idea ever. Her's a suggestion, Mr Shapps, drive on to a "smart motorway" and stop in the left-hand lane, or "go left" and see how you survive.

I have a daughter who is back driving after a year in hospital some years ago - she was a rear seat passenger when the car she was in was "T" boned - it broke her neck. She now drives with hand controls. Her use of "Smart" motorways frightens me because if her car stops for whatever reason, she cannot get out as she is paralysed from the waist down so will have to sit there waiting for a lorry to hit her and snap her neck again which will kill her. I have written to Shapps and others but just get a standard brush off letter. These roads are a death trap and should be put back to hard shoulder operation whatever the cost.

Hi All
I will keep this short, recently a 110 hp turbocharger was fitted instead of the 90hp which should have been installed. Would that be why I get sometimes get no response when I accelerate particuarlly above 30mph, and, between 30 and 50mph.
It’s feels ok in 1st and 2nd gear but lacks response after that.
I also found that the air intake pipe (down stream of filter) is loose fitted, i.e there is no indication that there should be a clamp, or other way of securing the pipe,
Sorry for my lack of technical know how,

Yes of course thanks
But was just needing some tech info as per post.

If you look on the V5C it will specify what the homologated emissions were. We had 2 Euro 4 diesels one with a DPF (2008 BMW 1 series) and one without (2006 Ford Focus). The particles are the important one, for Euro 4 a DPF was only required if it could not meet the requirement without one, the limit was 0.025 g/kg. The figure for the Focus was just below this but the 118D was way down in single figures, seem to remember 0.004.
But some manufacturers did fit one even if not required, pretty sure Peugeot did....

Hi. I am writing this as I have just purchased an 61 plate Audi A6 and I am not sure what the value of it really is, I have checked honest john, autotrader, and other website, and i get everything from 6900-7700, but I had thought it would be worth more than that so here I am asking the people, and what their opinions on my cars value is.
Its the newer model which was in production from 2011-2018, its in dark grey.

My guess is it's worth about £7000ish trade price so add on top of that whatever you think it is worth as a private/dealer sale etc.
Prices have not gone down - in fact, like pretty much every used car at the moment - it is probably worth more than it was this time last year....
I'm on the hunt for the next family car. I've recently found these two models, a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross and a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI. Both have decent pull, good mileage and imo impressive MPG. Any thoughts on the two?

I would never knowingly oversize but that's my preference. I'm looking to upgrade mainly due to the state and age of the car (Note 2006), but some extra boot space is also necessary. I think estates might be the way to go.
Thanks for enlightening us about your current car. That will help people advise you better. What would help now would be if you told us about your space needs for the foreseeable future....

My question is: how likely is he to be able to negotiate some discount on the forecourt sticker price?
Depends on the dealer, the car and your friends negotiating skills....
The main motoring organisations have become so commercialised that they are now more interested in selling insurance and car loans than representing the interests of their members.
I gave up on the AA years ago and now have roadside assistance as part of the extended warranty on my everyday car. The specialist insurance policy on my classic car includes roadside assistance as standard.
