Hi I am thinking of changing my dual mass flywheel to a solid mass flywheel. But I was wondering will it cause problems or damage to my car please? I have heard that some people do have problems and some don't. My car is remapped so it's quite nippy .thanks Read more
I have got 17 inch alloys with Bridgestone 225/45/75 tyres. Factory fitted,
Only done 17000 miles, just passed mot but they advised changing front tyres ,... Read more
If this is an advisory on the MOT with small cracks between the treads ( rather than the side walls ) this seems to be very common. Keep an eye on the tyres and /or ask an honest tyre fitter for an opinion. They may not change before the tyres wear out ,
Hi All,
I got an exhaust replaced on my car a few months ago from the original. I noticed today that part of the bumper is starting to melt right underneath the exhaust.... Read more
Unfortunately there is often a huge quality difference between genuine exhaust systems and non-genuine ones. The latter often don't sit correctly, poorly manufactured, and need heating up and tweaking here and bending there. It's always been the case for as long as I can remember having worked in the trade for over 40 years. I suspect you have a non-genuine system that doesn't fit exactly right. I'd go back to the people who fitted it and say you're not satisfied.

It might be low mileage and an import but you'd have to be utterly mad to pay that much for one. I'd say £2,500 is more realistic. That price makes this look good value. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODERN-CLASSIC-MERCEDES-S280-AU...c Read more
Well, if you really really really really want a white 416 then you're in luck I guess and may be £5.5k is a bargain!
Personally, if I wanted to get something "unusual" then go for unusual. The same dealer has a Toyota Century in stock. Who doesn't want curtains in the back instead of blacked out windows and I know for sure my missus is going to love sticking her legs through the hole in the front passenger seat when she wants to nap on long journeys!...
I have been looking at the forum for some time and have enjoyed reading contributions from ORB re his Kia and MG amongst others, so I have decided to join.
I have just bought a new Hyundai Tucson 1.6 diesel mild hybrid with almost 40% off list price (basically for Ford Fiesta money). The new 2021 model is amazing with but there are no serious discounts on it as it's so new. ... Read more
It has taken a while to get the finance papers through to sign electronically.
I have had a good read and the car was advertised as a PCP deal but it isn't so. ...
On HJ is a review of the new Hyundai Bayon and very nice it looks too! It does not appear to offer a straight petrol version only hybrid. I have noticed the same for the new Qashqai.
Are we heading to a situation where you cannot buy a NEW straight petrol car sooner rather than later? Read more
No manufacturer is now going to develop new ICE vehicles for the UK market.
I doubt they have done that since the demise pf BL, and even they didn't focus exclusively on the UK.
My thread is here somewhere ref turbo failure.
My question is about dashcams running whilst garage mechanic working on your car. When Renault dealer returned my car I found out a day later my front dashcam was playing up so took car to place where I had it fitted.... Read more
I don't buy into BS about cctv in there workplace and its violating there privacy.
Fortunately for anyone working it's not BS, there are real regulatory issues with surveillance cameras which is what a dashcam becomes in a workshop. If the camera is on then, whatever the intention it's filming and probably recording audio. If somebody turned up at my work wanting to record their interaction with my employer there'd be all kinds of issues. As well as my own rights to go about my work there's confidentiality for other users of the service to think about.
I'm looking for a second hand compact MPV, or a compact car, ideally with a higher driver seat than normal cars. Narrowed it down to Mercedes B Class (although it does look quite big), Kia Venga, Hyundai iX20. I looked at Ford B-Max but noticed the absence of a pillar between front and back door makes getting in/out for an elderly relative quite difficult (nothing to hold on to).
This would be a first car, so on the one hand I want something small (think a second hand Citroen C1, or Mazda 2) but cannot find anything like that with a higher driver seat, but as I also want a slightly bigger boot than the C1, I started looking at these mini-MPVs. Guess I also have to consider insurance, and am unsure which of these is better in that way.... Read more
These are v helpful ideas - many thanks.
So I am starting to narrow it down to the Kia Venga (no point paying more for the same car with a different badge (Hyundai)), and some of the other cars you have mentioned. I am more or less dropping the idea of the Mercedes as I havent seen a single comment praising it! Am very surprised by how cheap the Mitsubishi Colt is. Will look at Suzuki Splash too. And post-2008 Jazz although I think the seat height in that car (having sat in a friend's) is not high enough. Ford Fusion is also an option but was surprised it seemed more expensive than I expected because it looks so square. ...
The plastic casing on the front seat belt buckles, both passenger's and driver's, have cracked and I had to take them off. The seat belts still clip on ok, except on the driver's it occasionally jams, I think some spring fell off it.
Im looking to replace them and I understand I should buy seat belt stalks. They seem to be quite pricey and hard to find now, so I'm wondering would something called universal seat belt buckle work? Something like this: ebay.us/fRhLY4... Read more
Yes, I found the genuine Toyota part, they are only slightly more expensive than the used ones on Ebay. I might order them. Will have to check if I can fit them myself though, if I go to a garage the total cost could be close to £100 which is around 1/5 or 1/4 of what the car is worth. :(
The OP's car is a 55 plate, virtually worthless. If it needs a new flywheel a SMF will probably last long enough the see the car off to the scrappy in a couple of years time. Looking at it in that way it seems to be a no brainer.
If it was a much younger and more valuable car it would be different matter, then a new DMF would make sense.
