Hello,

My stop start has stopped working owing to battery suffering from low amount of driving and cold weather. I am getting a message up "low battery start car", which isn't a problem, it starts fine. I want to top up the battery, I only have an old trickle charger with hi/low setting. Is this suitable with the car having stop/start? Also, with the battery being in the boot, which is the best way of charging?... Read more

Probably in some cases the battery coding would prevent this.

Has there been a recent concerted effort to establish Citroen C6's as modern classics?

I have quite fancied one of these for ages but never got round to it. Usually they are about 6-8 on autotrader but atm there are only 2 at around £ 3-4000.... Read more

A neighbour is having some work done and the builder with his big white van parks near us. We have only on road parking in the centre of the village. Pulling out this morning he scuffed the offside rear bumper. My next door neighbour saw him from the front room window and he came and knocked on her door, he said it was minor damage and would T Cut out. She told him it was my car.

i Expected him to knock before leaving and have a word. At the end of the afternoon he just got in his van and drove away! I was keeping an eye out for him but obviously missed him.... Read more

Thanks Folks for your inputs. The process has been made considerably easier by the fact that he has admitted responsibility, in addition my neighbour had a clear view and is very certain about that. I had a SMART repairer look at it and he said it needs a new bumper as the clips had been broken. This considerably increases the cost, of which the driver is aware, I am getting quotes and he will decide whether or not to got through his insurance. A bit more than a wipe over with T Cut I'm afraid.

I now have a quote for the repair,, around £1k, and the deal said that I would need to pay the bill. I suspect too many times they have been bilked by third parties not paying up. A lesson for me there too.

When I had a vehicle with a manual gearbox if it stopped and I put it into a low gear and pressed the starter/ignition I could move it forward on the ignition. Handy to get it off the road onto the verge on breakdown.

Now I have automatic will the same apply if I select drive and press the start button?... Read more

Never heard that before - definitely a deluded old wife tale. It takes a fair bit to knock out a cat. I remember an HT lead failing on our old VW Passat 2.0GL with at least six figures on the clock when on hols in France - we had to drive for many miles limping along with just three cylinders, but it didn't affect the next MoT emissions test.

Time flies when you're having fun (sort of)! The Logan is 5 years old today, and apart from a new gearbox under warranty, and new wiper blades, it hasn't put a wheel wrong. Still doing 45mpg. The cheap looking plastic is showing no signs of wear. Paintwork still looks nice and shiny after a wash (which isn't very often). No advisories on the MOT. I had it serviced at the dealer again this year, but might do it myself next year.

I don't think I'll be changing it anytime soon. Read more

One of my cunning plans ( well, I think it's quite cunning anyway ) ;-) is that when I don't need such a large car as my EClass estate, is that I shall replace it with a petrol Duster.

For a number of reasons. I like the Dacia no nonsense approach, I like the idea of a bit more ground clearance and having a car that would wear any dings well ( our main hobby is mountain biking and some venues require a bit of light off roading to access ) and I wouldn't want to put a lot of money into another ICE car at the moment.

Hoping to at least semi-retire at some point and that would trigger the change.

Or, I just take the bike racks off the Merc, stick them on top of the old faithful Qashqai now at no cost, keep the Merc for "best" and continue to run the Nissan till it drops, maybe.

Either plan sounds cunning enough to me.

The drivers wiper on my Corolla judders badly even after fitting new Bosch blades.

i have heard that it’s possible to bend the arm to stop this happening but I’m not sure how to go about it. Read more

The oil should be either 5/30 before 2010, and 0/20 if vehicle is produced after 2010, but putting 5/30 in a newer one won't do any harm at all, the oil filter is around £11, but I'll be honest the air and cabin filters can be a bit steep at around £20 each, and can be sourced from factors at a fraction of that price, personally I would always use a genuine oil filter though. Try your arm and ask for trade prices, the worst that can happen is they'll say no.

Hi. I am looking for a used car for around 6-7k which I think could get me around 5 years old car. I quite like the look of a Ford Fiesta ( 1.1L or 1L ecoboost) and Toyota Yaris 1.3L petrol cars (both 2016 models). I'm having hard time deciding between the two so was hoping for some opinions on which on may be a better choice? I'd like the car to be nice to drive but also reliable.

Thanks.... Read more
