If you mean removing the trim below the satnav screen with the volume knob & 5 buttons on then forget it - that panel has electronics mounted on the back that cannot be removed as there integral to the cars electronics.
You could try & find the rare version with the CD slot in the trim & use that to mount your cup holders as the electronics have a slot to allow a CD to be inserted....
Hello,
This is a long bit story but i feel it essential to accurately describe the issue with my car.
Upon turning off of a roundabout, I began to accelerate to get up to speed. Upon accelerating my car began to lose power and slow back down, I find myself accelerating harder to compensate for this power loss, I noticed that whenever i accelerated harder the car would put a puff of white smoke behind it acompanying this white smoke was a loud metallic grinding noise, loud enough to be heard over a playing radio. I carried on until finding a safe place to stop and then turned the engine off, lifted the bonnet and checked the oil, coolant and for anything that looked out of place in the engine bay.
I decided to try and start the car and was sucessful after the engine turned over a few more times then usual. When the engine started it was back to normal again and the fault was not there. I decided to try and make the half a mile to my location where i could safely and more organised look at the issue in further detail. As soon as I turned back onto the road the issue began again however now there was no safe space to stop for about a quarter of a mile. The white smoke had stopped but the metal grinding noise had not. I reach another roundabout and try to make it to my exit that had a safe space to stop and call recovery. I pulled onto the roundabout and the engine cut out leaving me to coast to my exit and push the car to the side of the road.
Upon restarting the car turned over the engine 8-10 times before starting and then started and ran rough, attempting to drive or even rev caused it to stall out but would always start again.
When the recovery agent arrived he used a advanced scan machine to check for codes and none was stored which wasn't a surprise as the engine light was not displayed. The recovery agent was suspect of the injectors being the problem but could not confirm it and there was not any issues before this to suggest the injectors being an issue.
I had the car recovered and returned to it a few days later to which it would not start. The engine turns over and spits out a puff of black smoke with every turn but cannot start anymore.
I did some research into this fault and some people have suggested this may be an EGR fault so I have taken the EGR off and replaced it with a blanking plate to eliminate it from being a fault but it has made no change in the situation. While replacing the EGR I checked the inside of the turbo and found it to not be at fault. There is no oil inside and the turbine blades are undamaged on both exhaust and inlet side.
I have very little money and cannot afford the extortionate fees diesel specialists charge and every mechanic i have spoken to has told me to get it towed to a diesel specialist but this would very much exhaust all money i have to fix it before knowing what is even wrong.
My question is what do you think the fault is?
Is it an easy fix?
Do i need to take this to a mechanic? Read more
It would be helpful if the responder read ALL the previous posts-getting told to try things you have already tried and excluded would get up anybody's nose!
Very true. But it would also help the OP if he were to have an understanding of how engines work. Unfortunately too many people these days only think they know. Many are much too reliant on computer type diagnostics without having the root knowledge of what they're being told and what individual components actually do, and how the control module interprets information. This is why people blame this sensor, that switch, this component. And they are very often wrong. Fundamentally the internal combustion engine is no different from what they've always been. They have always been and still are suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Internet forums can just as easily lead people up the garden path as much as they can be useful....
I have ordered a Merc A Class online and I am collecting on Sunday.
The dealers main listing and Autotrader ad said Manual, the pics show a gear stick and clutch pedal but doing a check on the car it states Automatic. Same when I get insurance details.... Read more
I've had a quick look for a legal definition of an automatic, and it just seems to be whether or not the driver controls the clutch.
Does it specify whether the driver controls the clutch with the foot or the hand? In our 'automatics' I can disengage the engine from the gears by putting the lever into 'N'.
Hi, this is now the 4th forum I have posted this on so hoping to get an answer soon! I am servicing my Ibiza FR (63 plate) and removed the old oil filter which had no plastic bit on the dirty end of the filter. The new one arrived today but this one has a plastic bit on the end with a spring in the middle of it. What is this for and does it matter that the old filter didn't have one and the new one does?
This is what the old one looks like:

The "plastic bit" sounds like the sealing ring which could have stuck to the filter housing - IE it didn't come off with the filter, it occasionally happens.
Two weeks after the OP, he/she hasn't responded, so perhaps we should assume the oil change has been completed .. ?...

I had a 1981 Mk 1 Fiesta roughly that colour. Tuscan Beige I believe.
It was eclipsed in undesirability by its successor, a Mk3 Escort in Coral Beige. I didn't get much choice with either.
I liked them both, as cars.
My pre-Covid level driving was circa 10,000 miles per year.
We are almost a year now in lockdown. I estimate by March end, my overall mileage would be 3500 miles. Big part of it down to staycation in last summer. ... Read more
Not much, trawling through all the www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bW4vEo1F4E takes up all my time. N.B. this is a link to the Monty Python spam sketch.
In a nutshell, I went to hpicheck.com to do a check on car I was going to buy. Was worried about being ripped off so did the full check with £30k guarantee if data was wrong or car turned out to be stolen. No mention of restrictions to cover all the way through signup process and check all came back clear making me think all totally fine. They claim to have the most accurate up-to-date data and give full reassurance of their checks to the extent that they will pay you back up to £30k of your losses.
Only part was T's & Cs right at end which I clicked and then clicked '£30,000 Terms & Conditions' which is what I was interested in. Took me to a main conditions page which listed a whole list of things which I had to do and DID do but no mention of paying in cash.... Read more
I can’t be much help here, HPI are known for hiding the small print to reduce their liability. For example, if you don’t use the chassis number actually on the vehicle when carrying out your check then the guarantee is also void. I’d imagine had you done so it would’ve flagged up the cloning but that’s easy to say after the fact and is of no help to yourself. Reminding people to use this and not to pay in cash unless it’s a cheap sub £1500 car may save others. Out of curiosity, what age and model of Discovery are we talking about here? How did it compare with others on sale regarding price? I ask as another way to spit such scams is that the car is usually suspiciously underpriced.
At risk of being criticised I have also found many dodgy cars being sold by foreign sellers and I have yet to view a car either for stock when I was trading or on behalf of someone else that I didn’t find some major issue or fraud. I’m not saying all Eastern European’s etc are dodgy, I’m merely stating that I’ve yet to find a decent car being sold by one.
Re: "However, from 1 April 2021, the £40,000 premium tax no longer applies to electric cars."
According to: www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables
Cars registered on or after 1 April 2017
Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000
You have to pay an extra £325 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle.
Therefore BEV cars over £40K do not pay £325 a year... Read more

the manufacture of electric batteries is a dirty process that very few people take notice of, The end of life battery has also a very dirty process to content with .
Herr Porsche has the right idea a non toxic synthetic fuel with zero emissions .Also hydrogen power the only emission is H2O .Can you imagine a long distance truck driver or a tractor trying to carry out its function using a battery .there is no charging points in a field
