Came to start car this morning and both keyless fobs unresponsive so unable to open car doors. This has happened twice previously many months ago and so I used manual method of entry.
This time instead of getting the normal message of starting car within 10 seconds (or however long it is) I got no message at all and there's no response from the ignition whatsoever - not even the slightest click of trying to start up. What there is however is a VERY faint electronic alarm type noise coming from the dashboard. It's so faint that it can only be heard from inside. It's not a general electrical hum that you can sometimes hear in a car but a very deliberate (yet quiet!) alarm. I've tried placing the key in the passive key backup position as per the manual but still nothing.... Read more
Any ideas on how to remove the lock nut on my alloys. Both the stud and the adaptor are damaged. I don't want to damage the alloys by welding. Are any of the aftermarket removal tools any good? Read more
A quick look on You tube will see many solutions.
[ I will be surprised if this topic draws many suggestions ] Water builds up in the rear n/s footwell after heavy rain. My natural assumption was via the door and a failed membrane behind the door-card, but this seems not to be the case. My next guess is entry round the rear lamp cluster, running forward under the carpeting. Anyone got other ideas ? Read more
Then to my friendly local bodyshop for some rectification work. I don't feel up to DiY that.
Roof-rails off today - no possibility of leaks there as bolts are integral with the bodyshell, nuts fitted externally. Culprit looks like a loom grommet above the tailgate. Further tests follow....
I was at my local Indie getting the exhaust replaced.
In front of me was an Avensis Taxi in for an MoT - sailed through - 2012 with 370,000 miles. Owner diver - still the original engine BUT I am sure much of it would be a bit like Trigger's brush. The bodywork of the car, whilst not immaculate looked good for such a mileage.... Read more

Excuse my cynicism, sub £30k to sub £40k by the end of the review.
Might be cheaper to hire a Taxi when one needs to leave the house and break curfew.
Not sure I can afford 18" rubber either.
Can still get 700 miles out of my Golf TDI's 55 litre tank, although I note that the MK7 Golf lost 5 litres in tank capacity and the MK8 another 5, so that must make the Electric ID3 range closer to the MK8 by magic..!

£30,000 for a cheap car, doesn't sound very cheap to me.
Got an 06 focus, the engine light has come on on the dash, it sounds a little rattley & when idle the rph drops below 1 like it's about to cut out then goes back up itself so it doesn't cut out. It also jerks when driving. Any ideas what it might be? Read more
Plenty of coil connector repair kits on flea bay from around £12 .
Today I went to clean the terminals on my battery as I was having trouble starting and I knew that dirt was causing it, so I undid positve/neg terminals and cleaned. Trouble is getting the nuts back on proved difficult as I didn't realise you had to take off the larger nut which connects the whole terminal plastic thing to the battery, I provide pic as I don;t know what its called! Its the large O ring shape thing to the right of the photo. Anyway, so this broke as I struggled to get the positive terminal nut back on with this larger nut connected! So its broke, off, the van still starts ok, but I am wondering what is the purpose of the large nut and will it cause harm by it being broke?
Thank you.

Spray nozzles are much harder to clean.
Having a conversation at work today I was telling my colleague how I think cruise control is a real boon, especially as I have adaptive cruise which is even better, my colleague said her car has cruise but normal, but she’s never used it, I then suggested she should have a go with it but not to use it in the rain, she asked why and I wasn’t really sure why, googleing it brought up loads of conflicting advice as you can use it in wet weather as long as it’s not torrential rain, ( obviously it’s not advisable to use it in snow or icy conditions), so is it ok to use cruise control adaptive or otherwise, in the rain provided you set the correct speed for the conditions..?
Have been using cruise control for many years, first used it on hired cars (America / Canada) but also had it for 16 years in the UK. Although I am aware of adaptive cruise control have never used it.
I find it is great for journeys when I want to reduce the strain of driving, make good progress (or steady progress if a slower speed) and to ensure I don't stray above a set speed. (Actually got stopped in France once when it was switched off, yes I was frog marched off the motorway but not to a cash point to empty my bank account). In traffic with variable speeds there is a possibility of ramming the vehicle in front, but that is inattentive driving, dangerous at any time. No need to touch the pedals, just disengage to allow the vehicle to slow then resume when ready to return to selected speed. As for fuel economy, by planning ahead and not braking there is no wastage of fuel accelerating to brake, but when selecting resume the engine does tend to want to race to the selected speed as quickly as possible. Also on hills the engine will work harder to maintain speed on the incline, and of course there is no engine braking on the decline so without care the selected top speed could be breached. ...
Hello all. I had my windshield replaced today. Right after I had it replaced I had to drive back into town on the freeway going 75 mph. Could I have done something to harm the windshield or the way it will dry? Thanks in advance!
... Read moreOnly ever known a couple to fail, the bonding opens in very small areas and causes a wind noise to occur, but too small for a leak
they usually recommend 1 hour standing so it can harden enough not to separate from screen or metal surround, should be ok after that. depends on bonding used?
Good Afternoon,
How did you get the sorted ? Was it the battery flat or was there any other issues....
