Having gone from a ‘Focus’ to a ‘2008’, I wonder what, if any, effect a moniker has on sales. It’s difficult to like a number or a letter/number combination, especially when A6 or M3 makes me think of a roadmap. Mercedes were good at this when they denoted body style and engine capacity, but their monikers now make very little sense. Perhaps some are put off by silly names – ‘Up’ and ‘Cedric’ come to mind. But I can’t help feeling that names are better – most people can relate to ‘Golf’ or ‘Clio’ whereas ‘308’ and ‘MX5’ are meaningless, especially if there were no familiar MX1 to 4. Our 2008 is too polysyllabic however you say it. Would ‘Peugeot Pony or Piccolo’ have sold more?
If cars become popular the general public tend to provide a pet moniker, e.g. ‘Beetle’ or ‘Mini’, not a number, which the sensible manufacturer then adopts. When such a popular name is kept for subsequent models do they sell more than they otherwise would? Read more
<< While insurers and Thatcham support the introduction of more automation – and believe fully automated cars would be safer than human drivers – they said the current technology was a “quantum leap” away from what was needed. >>
If this was technically true no-one need worry for a moment, as a quantum leap is the tiniest jump possible at a molecular level. Unfortunately some time ago someone thought it made a trendy vogue-phrase, and it now means the exact opposite. Such is life....
The headline for this article is completely misleading - in my view, it implies that 75% of the time, blue badge holders cannot get a designated space because they are taken by non-blue badge holders. The reality is that the survey said that at some point, 75% of respondents said they haven't been able to get a space because they were taken - not all the time.
Besides, this is hardly 'news' to most of us. Read more

Funny thing with noises, once you've heard it, you really focus in on it and they car be very frustrating..
In the 9 second clip, I could hear a slight something, but who could tell what it is. If you think its the passenger seat, then perhaps ask a rear seat passenger to adjust the back rest angle, seat belt resting position. Another option might be the seat belt socket, eg what you click the seatbelt into when you put it on. The socket could be rubbing against the seat bolster or there abouts....
Hi
Daughter bought a 2017 Mini Cooper on 11th Sept from a fairly large dealership in the midlands (we're in Scotland). Last week the brakes started grinding and she took it into her local Kwik Fit who said it needed new rear discs and pads and a sensor (cost about £240).... Read more

Weirdly they sold my B in L a Seat Leon recently with a duff battery and they stumped up the cash for the replacement he had to buy just a week later. So bit of a theme emerging!

I always understood that police cars had to have been serviced correctly so they were 100% reliable. But depending on what they were used for, they could have had a pretty hard life - and they certainly weren't being driven by careful owners.

Hi, on my Movano (F3500 L3H2 CDTI), the intercooler pipe is made of metal with two metal brackets. Both have broken/snapped.
I've temporarily fixed it, but finding it nigh on impossible to source a replacement pipe. In addition, the check emissions and check injector warnings have flashed up today so I'm not sure if they are linked. ... Read more

Saw his appearance on the TV. Was surprised at the number of aides hangers on assistants and above all bodyguards he feels he needs. Is crime that out of hand?
