Hello all

I have the above car but hate the driver's headrest and am looking for a replacement because according to the book the headrest should be able to tilt forward and backward which I think should fix the problem but from Citroen it's £350 so I'm looking around for a second hand one but I am struggling so does anyone know where I can find one. , Also does anyone know if the previous model upto 2013 fit the 2017 modwl Read more

Thanks for all the help and when I get a chance I'll look at the set up advice , as for the philosophical views with regards to part numbers I have my own opinion and £350 for a headrest seems OTT but not wishing to go down the long road of rights and wrongs of the situation there seems to be similarity to a situation I read about some time ago and if I remember it correctly it was about making white goods makers make it easier with regards to part numbers etc for us consumers to fix THERE OWN machines without the red tape from manufacturers.

Asking on behalf of a friend. He has a 2010 Vauxhall Aglia ecoflex (I believe that it's the 1.0L engine). Does this engine have a cambelt or chain? Many thanks. Alfie Read more

A quick search on Google reveals that the 1.0 engined Agila has a timing chain.

We are completing a house move at the end of October and will be moving from England to South Wales. We will be moving into a lockdown area :-(

Just had a look at the DVLA web site and though it looks fairly straightforward to change address there doesn't appear to be an end / start date for the old / new addresses. In view of police checks etc we want to get the car log book, licence etc changed to the new address prior to the move.... Read more

Thanks Bromptonaut, is your caution because of the vagaries of completing a house sale or another reason?

Little bit of that in the current emergency but mainly that I'd not want my post going there before I was in occupation plus the potential ball ache with insurers etc.

Questionable

I have a Jeep Cherokee sport, 2.4l petrol, 2002.

I towed with it recently (1500kg max) and had to stop at a junction, it was a slight incline to pull out and as I accelerated it didn't feel like it wanted to pull the trailer away, obviously we did get going but it made me feel a bit queezy imagining being stuck on the junction! I am now wondering what will happen if I have to do a hill start when towing a trailer (Ivor Williams horse trailer). I've towed for years so am aware of how to do it but thought I'd ask if there was a "different way" to moving off in a jeep than any other car!? I know that sounds a dumb question.... Read more

Thank you for explaining that. I agree your car is knackered. Hope you get it sorted.

Hello all.

I took over the annual oil & filter changes since my car passed 5 years of age, and the most awkward part of the job is getting the car up on ramps - the low front valance means it scrunches against the start of the ramp unless I add a short plank there too...... Read more

Thanks again everyone.

Just replaced our C3 with a C4... This 2015 model one has a full 'proper' service history so we'll be keeping that going with Citroen for a year or two before I take over things like oil changes again. When I do, it'll be 'pump'! No more scrabbling under a car for things like this if I can help it......

Looking at both cars, around 2016 plate, less than 45000 miles and around £9000. Do about 12000 miles a year, with very little town driving. Looking at 1.6 diesels. Reading up, like all cars, there are reports of issues (308 adblue tank and pipes, Astra timing chain guides).

Anybody driven both or have any opinions? Read more

Thanks everybody for the input. I think ibhave now ruled out the Peugeot. Managed to sit in one, but not drive. Position was fine for me and I liked the look and feel. However, too many potential issues.

Drive an Astra and liked it. Only downside was the lack of decent under boot storage...

Wow! Who'd thought? A blind man could've seen this coming. And yet, the motor and insurance industry carried on as if nothing changed.

The truth is, the more cars stolen the better for the car maker. Like rust, it was something they could have resolved but chose not to.

Yes, commonly screen flashing, display cutting in and out . There are software updates for this , but doesn’t always fix the problem .

I live in North London, and my current VW Golf 1.6 TDI will soon fall foul of the extended ULEZ. As I cross the north circular regularly, this means it's time for change. However, I’m totally confused as to what to buy.

Your usage pattern is unsuitable for diesel. Perhaps there are cars that would cope with it but it could be hard on a DPF.

If you contemplate owning it until it is 10 years old or more, then start with something known to be reliable, as far as one can know.

I'm wary of very complex engines and gearboxes for the long haul. That said we have a 2014 Roomster, from new, with a 1.2TSI engine (the one with the 'toothed [timing] chain') and a DQ200 (dry clutch, 7 speed) DSG gearbox. It's been OK but it has only done 25,000 miles in 6 years. I'm not sanguine about its prospects of reaching the same age in our ownership as its predecessor, a Honda Civic 1.6 auto, which had no turbo or supercharger and an old school epicyclic auto with torque converter. That car is still on the road 18 years later.

You could try to narrow your choice by looking for cars without turbos and with TC auto boxes. You might find there then isn't a wide choice at all!

Came to start car this morning and both keyless fobs unresponsive so unable to open car doors. This has happened twice previously many months ago and so I used manual method of entry.

This time instead of getting the normal message of starting car within 10 seconds (or however long it is) I got no message at all and there's no response from the ignition whatsoever - not even the slightest click of trying to start up. What there is however is a VERY faint electronic alarm type noise coming from the dashboard. It's so faint that it can only be heard from inside. It's not a general electrical hum that you can sometimes hear in a car but a very deliberate (yet quiet!) alarm. I've tried placing the key in the passive key backup position as per the manual but still nothing.... Read more
