Not a good idea at all - dangerous, especially if the system gets it wrong when you need the gas. One more Big Brother rule - as if we don't have enough of those at the moment.

Far better to have better driver training and enforcement of existing / better road laws.

Noticed yesterday that the heating/ventilation fan on my (2010) Caddy van is only working on the highest setting. Anybody got any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance. Read more

Exactly.

Lots of cheap, sub standard electrical stuff around. When I replaced one on my CMax a few years back I noticed just how many genuine looking replacements were available, but at a fraction of the Bosch price from reputable suppliers. Didn't seem worth the risk.

Hi i posted before now another issue has come into the limelight.

Late13 reg seat leon 1.2 with 67k mileage and cost £6000. I got in touch with the dealership whom i bought the car from when i noticed the high engine oil consumption as i was having to top up oil ever month which got to the point it was every week and thats when the warning bells rang. The dealership told me to get the car inspected from a local garage as the dealership is 150 miles away. After the vehicle was inspected a leaking turbo was diagnosed. Went back to the dealership with the findings who then refused to help at all by arguing that i did not purchase additional warranty so its not covered. A warranty argument at this stage is red herring as consumer rights act is clear on major faults happening within 6 months.

Second issue i have come across is that i was trying to find the service history and records to see the car had been looked after and noticed the car is missing service history since 05/2017.
When i purchase the car the ad stated ‘with all Seat main agent history’. Now to clarify before taking delivery of the car i had asked the dealership via message (main method of communication) so proof available ‘also wanted to confirm the car has full service history? As it states on the advert. all
Main agent service history’. To which the dealer replied ‘Yes, that is correct’. So he has confirmed the car has full service history and had i known that i would not have bought the vehicle but i suppose i was mislead or am i wrong?

It was paid half on debit card and half on credit card. I am aware of section 75 but the issue is my brother had paid half for car with his credit as its the only car in the family so it would benefit him too. But no sure if i have a claim for 75 as i am the owner and driver. Read more

I noticed in this report they did not include the cost of having to replace the battery pack ( several thousand pounds ), or the cost of having to get a charging point installed at home ( about £ 300 after you have claimed back money from the gov ), if you cant afford the 6/7 hour wait in the services to charge it up should you run out of juice, or the B&B if the charge takes linger and you do not want to sleep in the car while it is charging. Only too familiar, remember buy a diesel and save the planet.

That was not a devious act by government, just a failure to think ahead and consider the possible downside. ...

I'm looking to buy a golf gti secondhand which is on a 19 plate, however looking at the gov.uk website it appears that it's first MOT is due this December implying that the date of first registration was in 2017. Is this possible somehow? Read more

The date of manufacture would be useful to tie up the V5C registration date with the date the car was made.

Got a really narrow drive (between buildings) and constrains us to a vehicle that gives us the need for rear walk in access (the space useful as well). Does that constrain us to the Fiat Doblo only?. Maybe other makes?. Read more

Brit_in_Germany

Another engineering solution would be to install a movable platform - you park on it in an extended state and it then withdraws, taking the car into the narrow drive. Tesla's remote summon might also work.

I purchased this car one year old from Motorpoint in Birmingham at £15k. the mileage today after 6 years is 130k - all components are original including car battery. Its had an oil change between on average 7-8k using VW Quantum 504/507 spec, between 10k to 90k each oil change was at 5k interval (miles). I had it Terraclened at 120k - made no difference - waste of money. Between 90k - 130 each oil change was at 10k - got a bit lazy. Air filters generally changed at 10k and fuel filters 20k. Its on original disc rotors and pad have been changed 2to 3x - rears only once. Warranty work included one window regulator, a shock absorber and two small faults related to limp home mode kicking in and petrol cap failed to open. Last 60k miles trouble free. at 130 k its due a full service and new pads and disc on front. Had a a new cam belt/water pump and bits at 100k... Great car but will need to be sold or scrapped because of ULEZ in London - what a joke. Typical journey was 70% A roads A3/M3/M4 and 30% South West London. Read more

If you sell it some distance from London you should be able to get something for it rather than scrapping it.
