I just set my heart in a Mustang convertible with reserves as 435i or 630i perhaps even a Merc. Then i realise this will be the number one car now so i try looking for towbars. Just to tow a small boat.... Oh dear it seems impossible to find a convertible homologated for a towbar. Tried witter so far. Any thoughts? Read more
I have a 2016 Mazda 6, 2.2 turbo diesel, 80,000 miles with FSH. It has just gone into main dealer with engine malfunction light on and they have diagnosed it as turbo failed (one of the flaps is broken is what they told me). To drive the car, all is well other than lag in acceleration, it won't accelerate until the car reaches 2500 rpm in each gear (manual). Their is no smoke or odd sounds. I have read about similar issues that have proved to be blocked fuel filters or issues with Diesel Particulate Filter. Can anyone tell me if Mazda are taking the p$@s? Read more
Update.
Called into Mazda today, they havent yet taken the car to bits. They have said a rivet has come off of the turbo therefore the turbo needs replacing. When plugged into the diagnosis it gave code for turbo malfunction. I am currently trying to obtain a copy of this. Could the 1st two services over running by a couple a 1000 miles have any connection to this problem?...

While I’m often frustrated by friends and family who ignore my attempts to talk them out of buying liabilities, I still offer my experience willingly and enjoy hearing their experiences whether they follow my advice or not, it all adds to mine and their experience. I’m happy to post hypothetical questions and often hark back to the past with rum inspired posts that are just for fun but I do get a bit annoyed by people who ask for advice about cars they clearly have no intention or ability to buy but who don’t make this clear to us or those who post a question then are never heard from again. There’s nothing wrong with starting a post asking what’s the best fun car for £2,000 or the best estate for £5k but if you’re on here every other week suggesting you’re looking at completely different cars with entirely different budgets questions are going to be asked and instant hostility in reply often comes from being found out. It’s not unusual for certain contributors on here to spend a fair bit of time researching replies and looking for cars nearby the OP as suggestions and I’d rather know if it’s just for fun or real. Thanks Avant for flagging up the OP’s past posts which saves me replying again beyond this one thread.
Hi,
New to the forum.
I have a 2019 BMW M4 Competition Pack. I’ve had the car a year and all is well, apart from the double sided sticky tape not holding the M4 grill badge on fully.
A few days ago, whilst cleaning the car, I moved the passenger seat forward, firstly using the mechanical back release and then the convenience button on the top of the seat. After a few seconds of it moving, I heard a loud crack. The seat had impacted the from windscreen and cracked it!!
I couldn’t quite believe my eyes to be honest! I moved the seat back and watched the windscreen move back into place.
Obviously shocked by this, I took the car immediately to my local service shop and was told the car couldn’t be fit in for 2 weeks or 6 if I want a courtesy car. They suggested calling BMW Assist.
A tow truck later and an overnight stay in a compound and my M4 was at the same service centre I visited. They called me later that day and told me that there was no fault, that the windscreen had a chip which has caused the crack. This is not true.
I returned to the service centre to demonstrate that the seat impacts and pushes the glass, exactly where the crack was. The manager came out and immediately said “that’s not a chip, that’s a fault, it will be repaired under warranty”.
I left the vehicle with them once again. Today they called to tell me that BMW have said there is no fault and I will need to replace the windscreen at a cost of £1000+. I took the vehicle to a reputable windscreen repair shop and they immediately said there was a seat fault, it shouldn’t touch the screen. Returned to BMW and demonstrated that the driver side stops 1cm short. The seat is faulty.
I've been left now with no car as it is sat at the service centre until Monday when they will “try again” with BMW.
Anyone had any issues with this or have any help!? I’m at the end of my tether and I’m astonished BMW are treating customers like this.
I’ve attached some photos, the last one is both seats in there most forward and highest position with the selector. Something doesn’t look right!!!

I'm trying to imagine the layout of a car which would need its seats to get anywhere near the windscreen - and be powered strongly enough to damage it. What ever are those German designers thinking of ?
As well as the aggressive/impatient tailgater there is the inattentive tailgater. The worst thing about this species is that they don’t know they’re doing it and are more likely to be taken by surprise in the event of an emergency. A few years back I was travelling along a road punctuated by frequent roundabouts. Following me was a young woman in a Zafira or something similar - certainly not the type of car or driver you’d associate with aggressive tailgating and she was making no attempt to overtake.
After a few roundabouts I noticed she was driving very close to my rear end so I began to accelerate away from her after each roundabout. I had to ease off the throttle each time I reached the speed limit and, sure enough, by the time we reached the next roundabout she was back on my bumper. Maybe it was a security thing, I don’t know, but she seemed to think the correct positioning on the road was immediately behind me. I don’t remember how the situation resolved itself; she maybe turned off eventually, but the motoring organisations say that you should pull over and let them lock on to the rear of the next vehicle they catch up with.

Good info, thank you.
Explains why my recent hire car had to go back at 8000 miles, europacar’s sales guy explained they sell them at their optimum price vs mileage/age and recently cars have been moved on at a younger age/mileage.
Replaced with a rather decent Astra Auto , very nice gear box, presume it’s a torque converter auto based on its characteristics (no nasty lurch which is common in some CVT boxes).
I'm stuck with this, and I'm tired of so many dodgy looking dealers and sellers locally, is anyone actually legit these days?!
Ideally, I'd like to give a VW CC a shot, but they seem really hard to find in Essex in my price range, and I don't really fancy traveling at the moment.... Read more
The critical issue whatever car you buy make sure it has a full service history that is documented and a minimum should be an oil change a year if not very 7-8k. Forget the MAZDA - rubbish. The Germans are ok provided they are not on a long life service regime. Try and buy a car from a rural or semi rural area owned by 1-2 owners from new. 100k mileage in London traffic is not the same as 100 k done in rural Sussex or on the motorways. Buy on condition and history not mileage. I would buy a late model Passat or Accord.
Part Exchanging my car this weekend.
I have shown the dealer pictures and they have offered a price for the car. I am part exchanging my 2 series for another car which is worth atleast 1.5k more than the 2 series.... Read more
Can't say I've ever had a car test driven when i've part exchanged one but maybe this one will. last car i sold was to we buy any car they didn't even bother looking at it properly otherwise they would of seen the engine warning light.
Ive had a couple of my px's not only test driven but also subject to a mechanic's albeit brief inspection. Mainly at BMW franchises but also your run o the mill Vauxhall dealership....

I don't understand why the UK doesn't like French cars.
Many of us like certain French cars a lot. The UK likes cars from all over the world, in stark contrast to the parochial French, whose streets are lined with predominantly French cars. If you want to avoid the dismissive procrastination of a provincial French garage when I tried to get a replacement HT lead for our misfiring 'foreign' car (a German VW Passat) when on holiday there once, I would go for the French Peugeot 2008 I suggested previously. Incidentally, today's Sunday Times magazine considers the Ford Puma to be small SUV/crossover of the year. But it's north of £20K and I wouldn't rate its powertrain above a 1.2 puretech EAT6.
I have been doing some research and wanted to know if anyone knows on what grounds the below might invalidate you insurance ??? I have seen this same thing on 2 diff websites now, one of which is a well known tyre fitter.
