Question is in the title. At the moment it would be very easy to get my wife's car mot'd. The mot runs out at the end of May. The way things are going nobody can say what the situation will be by then. When I look on line I simply find references stating that you can mot up to 28 days early but I wonder if this is simply to preserve the expiry date. Read more
I am possibly/maybe contemplating a new Duster Essential 100 tce with the new 100bhp/160 nm engine.
A test drive on local (rural w. Wales) road was OK - nothing startling but OK, which is about all I need nowadays. (My current Baleno also has about the same power 100/160 but weighs less than 1 tonne and is a bit of a pocket rocket).... Read more
Many thanks again for the responses and useful points to consider.
I'm a bit in limbo at the moment with the rejection stuff going on. LBG are not being shall we say 'dynamic' but there's less than three weeks left of the Ombudsman's eight week limit to resolve the issue. I may need to find a replacement fairly quickly....
Bought 3 months ago 67 plate, 12k miles.
Loss of power on and off with no pattern to it (revs don’t drop and feels like intelligent braking cutting in) alarm gone off 9 times in a week. Start/stop only works properly for a while both times it has left Nissan garage - for a few days then works only roughly once a week.
Has been into Nissan twice, all they have done is plug it in and drive it 10 miles...nothing else.
It is registering no error codes at all - not past or present. Apparently it should register in it’s history each time the alarm goes off including the date but not even that is happening. So basically the car thinks nothing is wrong with it.
Nissan Garage already saying they may not be able to fix it. Everything I suggest like fuel pressure ECU etc they just dismiss, yet can give me no idea at all as to what is wrong - not even suggest when asked. They did try banging on about the DPF (told them no at the time) and low and behold it was not that.
Called into local garage on the way home and they plugged it in and flagged it two error codes, but Nissan aren’t really taking any notice of that.
Have said they need it in for a prolonged time to replicate fault, what so they can feel that it feels like the intelligent braking is cutting in when not meant to. I can’t see what use that is if still not registering any fault codes and did not offer me a loan car for that time (under warranty) until I asked for one - they told me in 2 weeks. I’m not prepared to drive a car loosing power out of the blue like that for two weeks! What if it does it whilst over taking or pulling out of a busy junction? It’s dangerous! Especially when I have grandchildren in my car which is daily.
If those 3 things are happening, it all points to multiple electrical faults??? In which case why are they not considering ECU?
Any ideas most welcomed thank you. Read more
You need to be very careful of disconnecting the battery without letting the car shut down this can take up to 40 mins if it is done to early it can cause the ECU to fail. Is the vehicle a Diesel or Petrol ? and what engine is it.

Hey, i've a got a digger for a week and I realise I can use red diesel. BUT every petrol station I went around Twickenham doesn't sell it.
Anyone knows any petrol station not far from Twickenham that sells red diesel? ... Read more
It used to be the case and maybe still is that a plant hire company will also provide a fuel bowser on hire. A small towable one holds about 200 litres or even a bunded tank dropped on site. If I had a digger for a week I would plan my site work and work it hard to get the best value. Using it for a week would easily consume 100 litres plus if it is worked. Pity to hire for a week and only use it for a few days.

Emailed a friend at a new car sales dealership. No sales since last Friday. Service department is keeping busy. His view is they'll have to shut down at the end of the week. Read more
Car was going in tomorrow for MOT, due mid April, garage called yesterday and are shutting down for the duration.
A question for owners of modern Diesels, if that is the only car you have how are you going to keep the DPF happy if all the present journeys are shortish hops, as the govt ramps up the crashing of the economy, sorry, shutdown, the old bill will be relishing their new found authority over normally law abiding people, so if stopped is driving nowhere to clear the DPF allowed?...
hi, looking for some advice. I recently bought a 2016 VW CC with 25k on the clock.
First off the aircon doesn't work, I'm getting a lot of condensation in the tail lights. The car has had new disks and pads all round which I thought was aud as my last cc Didn't require them after 72k also I have a wheel bearing going bad.... Read more

Warranty repairs on 2 nd hand cars? they will wriggle to avoid everything possible....
Colleague at work told me of her father's woe with a 5 year old (but only 30k mile) Grand Picasso that has suffered total engine failure (cracked block?) which started with a seemingly impossible to diagnose coolant loss.
However, in Citroen's favour, although the car doesn't have a full Citroen service history they are fitting a new engine FOC.... Read more
Just to add to this thread. There appears to be a problem that's beginning to manifest itself with the cambelts running in oil. Today I finally got to the bottom of this on the 308 Facebook page. A Peugeot technician stated that the engine has been subject to three cambelt revisions. Gen1 is a smooth black belt that degrades and cracks across the width throughout the whole belt. Gen2 revision has a textured finish and would have been fine had it not been for the fact that it is slightly wide therefore causing it to fray at the sides with debris blocking the oilways. The engine is currently being fitted with a Gen3 belt with no known problems yet. The technician implied that PSA know about this and are changing them under warranty or possibly contributing to the cost out of warranty.
Within the first two years the rear pads were binding and were sorted out under warranty.
I took the car back in to have them checked later in the first two years noting the "achilles heal" comment about the i10, but I was too early & the garage advised the wheels weren't binding.... Read more
Highly unlikely. The mileage between detection of the problem and repair was tiny. What is your emergency stop rate per 10,000 miles?
You only need to make one emergency stop with a known brake issue and find that you cannot actually stop to turn that situation into something far more serious....
Decided to buy a new car. After test drives and playing on the manufacturers configurator, got a build price + OTR costs.
Local dealer, while appearing ‘helpful’ is also being evasive in some ways (especially on discount, saying manufacturer frowns on it, etc), less than transparent but also trying to get me to upspec ‘as they can discount’ to greater degree. Yeah..... They claim to have a car which has been built (so they say), and in a compound somewhere but has options I just don’t need. It’s the usual clever patter and pressure to sign and buy before end of month, but I never make snap judgements and can wait - months if necessary.
Using Carwow, another franchised dealer has offered an OTR price £3250 of ‘my spec car’ than ‘best’ price of nearer franchised dealer, which I’ve worked hard to haggle even £1300 off. So much for struggling for sales. There’s a further £750 PCP discount but I didn’t want PCP but would take it and pay off within 14 days.
Tempted to visit the Carwow dealer, so have any other forum members bought though a Carwow recommended dealer or did they pit them against local dealer to get a better price? Any problems using Carwow in general? Drive the deal don’t list the marque I want.
Thanks

I bought the new Kia (nothing to report SLO76) via carwow.
very simple, didn't visit dealer before collection. said i had already an offer for Gap insurance, and of course impossible to sell extras when the car was sitting there ready to be collected. Signed everything electronically, paid and left.
To reiterate - it's been explained above - you can have an MoT whenever you like. The 'earliest date' on the certificate shows the month's grace which allows you to keep the anniversary unchanged. Otherwise it moves earlier.
