Twas ever thus Andy. Driving across speed humps I usually go quite slowly for obvious reasons. It amazes me the number of numpties that brake hard at the hump, then cross it and accelerate towards the next one to repeat the exercise. I always seem to be caught by one these idiots who then tailgate me. Heaven only knows what they are thinking, or not really.

I wore seat belt long before they were compulsory and just got into the habit. That was because I was once courting a very nice young lady who happened to be a nurse. She worked in Casualty, as it was then known. She always put the seatbelt on whenever I picked her up. Her reason was the effect of a road accident where the occupants were thrown about inside or even out of the vehicle in the event of a collision. She witnessed the actual damage and injuries first hand, and subsequently always wore a seat belt. I simply followed suit. Clever girl as it turned out....

Mitsubishi's answer only partly covers the mileage question and it does not answer the need to have a service every 12 months. Will they extend the time period? Read more

Nissan are NOT honouring their warranties if you have been unable to get your car serviced by a Nissan dealership during lock-down if it was due, even though they were closed. They are not recognising your local garage who did stay open as in their words ‘there’s no guarantee concerning the oil they have used’ yes that’s right, when it comes to the test they fail. Nissan Customer Service also have 75% bad on Trust Pilot. Says it all.

It always surprises me that so many people are not aware of how to properly look after their car. To me if one owns a car then one should know what checks are needed, where things are and how to check things.
I was taught to drive by my late father in 1975, he in turn had passed his test in 1936 aged 18. I grew up seeing my Dad make weekly checks on our car (I still have that very car) tyre pressures, oil and water levels, lights etc. To me this is common sense, as is regular servicing, perhaps people have become too detached from common sense - a university education does not seem to include this.... That's all well and good, but can we go for a drive so the tyres don't flatspot, brakes don't bind or battery go dead in a few weeks? Not everyone lives in a house and can plug their battery into a strickle charger either.

My local supermarket is a couple of minutes away in the car, so my battery will be in worse condition (and I suspect the engine, because it would be running a rich mixture and not warmed up yet) if I do so.

Can I then go to do my grocery shopping at the (larger) supermarket far enough away in the next town that it gives the car a good run every fortnight? The virus transfer risk is likely no greater than me walking to my local supermarket, as I'll be doing ths same activity at both, and in my car away from others on empty roads otherwise.

Will the Police stop me, even though at some point I may be called upon to work, but my car might not be roadworthy if I leave it standing or just use it for short trips? What impact will that have on the breakdown services, who should be attending to breakdowns and not problems that could be avoided?

I just wanted to say, with this virus getting worse and more shops closing down until it clears, not to mention the aftermath of all this which no one can know or predict. As a nation we are in this together.

So I extend my heartfelt wish to you all that you, your family and friends are all safe and continue to be so. Read more

We've had a manager brought in who wanted to cut numbers and cost but now due to this crises the staff aren't there to deal with the work loads as so many have gone off sick that the skeleton crew there was before is down to 40% due to this Corona virus and its costing them a fortune in overtime. On a normal week without any overtime the staff costs are £200000 with overtime its something like £400000 give or take a few thousand a week. Yet if we didn't lose so many staff we would of been able to cope without the need and dedication of staff doing 11 hour days and working up to 7 days a week....

Ridiculous, absolute ridiculous.

What's the difference between NHS staff parking during this Coronavirus outbreak and their need to park any other time?

NHS Staff never should have and should never have to again, pay for parking at their place of work.

Why has it taken a situation like this for the authorities to start respecting and applauding NHS staff when they've always been there for us 24x7? Read more

I live in a rural area where the roads are eerily quiet. Even when I cross over the M5 there is very little traffic, and most of that is commercial.
My everyday car is only used for the supermarket shopping at present, a ten mile round trip which does it no harm as it is petrol. Not all of us were taken in by the dash for diesel.
My other car is a 50 year old classic and old cars, like old people, benefit from regular gentle exercise. I will drive that one next time I have to visit the pharmacy to collect my repeat prescriptions.

I'd love to sign up, but I'm not sure I can. I was rather hoping the furlough worker scheme would allow for part time working thus freeing me to volunteer but I'm not sure it does. Not willing to take the salary hit otherwise so will have to work full time.
