Hello everyone,,

I bought my first car , a 1964 Dodge Dart middle of last year. Spent a ton of money getting brakes fixed, engine fixed, etc. But didn’t check my suspension. Figured I’d get to it when I had the money. Well last week I was driving my friend home (were on the same street) and about a block out, I heard a ping. I was veering to the left and pulled off to the side of the road and checked. My left front tire was at a 30° angle inward. Pulled off the tire the next day, my upper control arm’s ball joint popped out of place. I ordered the part for both sides and checked local mechanics. I can’t decide if I should press it in myself with a kit or pay $190 to have it done and reinstalled (just one side if done at mechanic).... Read more

Silly problem. Tyre pressures are in Kps...kpa 235/35/19 and 255/30/ 7r19 front and rear respectively. F270, r300. This works out pretty high in psi unless I,m missing something...not unusual. Any thoughts before I resort to the dealer? Read more

On the contrary, if the weight was irrelevant, there wouldn't be seperate pressure ratings for (AFAIK) every car for light loads and heavy loads, just like my two vans and, as you've just pointed out, your Tourag(!). Though it may well be the case that a fatter tyre requires less pressure for the same weight than a more modest sized tyre....

Hi all just wanting a bit of guidance. I have a 16 plate E220d Mercedes. 11 months ago (2 months out of warranty) I had camshafts fitted at my own cost at a Mercedes dealership. Last week my car broke down again had a call from Mercedes dealership were I had it recovered to who also carried out the work 11 months ago saying a camshaft has failed and they have requested warranty from Mercedes UK. I won't hear the outcome until Monday.... Read more

The first time I had taken it to the dealer I was told they had never seen it before. Might have been true as not many of the new engines would have had so many miles. But over the last year I have heard of more and more having this problem so it turns out there is a design flaw.

Does anyone know what I should expect them to cover? Just the parts or part and labour or...?

Unfortunately timing chain has broken. Wear and tear.

"I loved my pre-facelift model, but I seem to recall you've tried a 2-series and weren't convinced, is that right?"

Well remembered, Craig. The 220i came a close second to the Q2: the main reasons why it lost were (a) the Q2 is more sure-footed round corners, and (b) as the Active Tourer apparently doesn't sell all that well, it didn't look like holding its value as well as a Q2....

Many years ago I purchased a Vauxhall Senator, Was stopped by Police for jumping a read light, at the roadside whilst they did there checks they got vey exited because the car had been subject to a insurance full pay-out/write off. It was taxed/insured correctly. Found not guilty at court, police evidence was suspect.

Subsequently found I had to take the car to a specialist repair shop for inspection at a significant cost to have the insurance pay-out flag removed. Apparently the car was a stolen/recovered with no damage

I would like to change the oil on my daughter's car. It is a Peugeot 108.

If I jack the car up at the jacking up points (pinch weld just behind the front wheel), there is not enough space to put the axle stand to provide extra support.... Read more

Increasingly modern cars are a PITA with no dipstick tube the extraction method can't be used - not that I'm a fan of it anyway.

One more reason for keeping a 20th-century car. There's usually more space around the engine, and consumable things like oil filters are accessible, not hidden under plastic shrouds. My local indy has to do that job on my 2008 diesel, but I like to do the 1994 car myself. At least they both have dipsticks.

Hi,

Just wanted some advice...

Recently bought two cars from a seller on gumtree, as
none runners...

Spoke to the bloke and sent him a deposit, called him later and said won’t be
able to pick them up on my recovery ask of unforeseen circumstances.. Guy said okay no worries.

Called him a few days later to rearrnage and he has now scrapped them, I have checked HPI and more than likely sold on to someone else and not willing to give back my deposit.

Deposit was not much and really don’t care, just want to nail him for lieing.

I have the registrations and tempted to report as stolen.

I don’t have v5 etc

Is this possible Read more

It would be interesting to hear both sides of the story.

My friend was in a similar position, he needed an old car moving urgently, so he offered it at a knockdown price....

i am currently working on seeing if a piece of equipment that is currently powered by a gas motor can be run off an electric motor being powered by a honda Eu2000i generator using an ac to dc convertor that goes to 2 12V batteries connected in series (motor runs of 24V) that pick up load spikes. The equipment weighs around 400 lbs and can move an additional 1000 lbs. The required specs to move this piece of equipment are 275 ft-lbs of torque and it needs to move at walking pace or about 3 mph. My question being after days of looking there do not seem to be any motors on the market that will output the required torque and rpm to move the vehicle, even using gear trains, so is this a feasable option (if so what are some motor suggestions), or should other options be considered.
