Just done 1900 miles in two weeks, Hampshire to the Yorkshire dales in our 2008 140k V70d. Car fully loaded for the trip up and back then a mixture of A roads through to one track roads. Used £220 of diesel and no oil at all. I'll try to work out mpg sometime. All in all very impressed, the old girl took it in her stride but I'm knackered! Read more

It is indeed a D5 2008. Our previous V70 made around 200000k before an pricey repair made it uneconomical you fix. Got this one for £8k 4 years ago.

Are you following the exact procedure that will be detailed in the handbook for dipping the oil? It can make a difference dependent on if its cold after a night standing, hot engine and wait 10 minutes after turning off plus any number of other combinations.

To get an accurate reading you also need to be on level ground....

I have a VW Polo (2006 Reg). This morning I set off from my house and after driving for about 2 minutes after I'd driven over a few road humps the car started screeching. At first I though it was the brakes as its been raining quite a lot and the cars been on the drive for a day without having been driven but the car was screeching without applying the brakes. I checked under the bonnet and under the car but couldn't see anything unusual. What I did notice was a white mayonnaise like material had built up under the driver side wheel arch. After I stopped and drove a little further the screeching eventually went away but the car definitely doesn't feel right.

Any ideas what this mayonnaise like material is under the driver side wheel arch - it's certainly not something I've driven through. ... Read more

I would check the driveshaft area where it attaches to the front hub/ wheel area . It’s possible there is a split rubber boot to the cv joint . The mayonnaise could be grease.

That may tie in with the road humps - if the CV joint's sudden movement split the gaiter ?

What to buy?

My wife has been a big Honda loyalist for years - three Shuttles and then a Stream, but now that's beyond economic repair. We really like the engines and reliability. The options for our rather niche requirements seem to be Toyota Verso or possibly a Ford S-Max. (I am not bothering to consider the Zafira.) Otherwise it's only a Mitsubishi Grandis which is rather old, or indeed an imported Honda, like an Odyssey (which drives very well.) She wants something roomy but not enormous, ie. not a Previa/Estima or similar. Parking sensors/camera are a must! Any thoughts advice or warnings?? Read more

We certainly don't need this all over again.

Benet, I hope your question was answered helpfully by posters on your original thread: by all means resurrect it if not. ...

Everything electrical works perfectly except yesterday I noticed the main brake lights had stopped working, bulbs are fine, all connections I can check easily are good and the high level brake light works? I then realised the rear lights are also not working (same bulbs) as I said everything else is fine, all front lights, hazards all round, fog light and reverse lights.

Any ideas as I'm a bit stuck with this, no fault codes are stored just in case it's in any way relevant.... Read more

Really tired of of E82 car audio. Sometimes when I try to switch it on to play music, it simply doesn't work and has no sound. I use the car stereo system mainly for playing music when driving or watch videos when I get the car parked.

I have taken a look at the leading brands like Xtrons, Kenwood, Pioneer. It seems the Xtrons BS8719UN is the most cost-effective and I likes its appearance. Also, it has QualcommA53 CPU, 4G RAM and 64G ROM.

Anyone has used Xtrons before? I'd rather play safe and listen to more suggestions before I get it. Any suggestions and comments will be highly appreciated.

You sure its Qualcomm, I thought it was an ARM Cortex-A53 ?, but after listening to that system would rather go for Kenwood or Pioneer they are imo better sounding Read more

Hi, yesterday my power steering suddenly stopped working, no noise, no intermittent function it just stopped (nearly ended up in someone's front garden).

Is there anything that I can check/do or any ideas on what could cause it to just suddenly stop functioning?... Read more

I've got it in Monday morning to see what it could be.

The tyre pressure reset is not available in the dashboard screen system. The car has been back to the dealers under warranty 3 times, the dealer swapped out the unit with a salesman car and all worked.Dealer requested a new infotainment unit from Skoda but Skoda is asking dealer to try other things the latest is the ABS.It appears the unit cost £3000 and Skoda are trying to avoid replacing when this appears to be the solution. What would you do or has anybody for a similar problem. Many many years ago I remember reading about an early Burt Rutan home built aircraft design that used an interfaced laptop (I think an Apple Macbook) as its instrument panel....

Notice the various poster names of this particular pointless spammer have a similarity, i call it pointless because this is just about the last forum on the planet where any of the usual attendees would dream of clicking on such dross.
