My mini was has a few months left of the warranty. Whilst driving down a steep incline (diversion due to road works) which I wouldn't normally do, I found that when I needed to reverse due to a car with a large trailer coming towards me, the car just wouldn't 'pull' backwards. It was quite scary and after several attempts to reverse, the man with the trailer backed downwards, so I could continue forwards. On calling the local dealer (from where I bought it) I was told that it wasn't a 'normal' issue with this car, and I could either take it in, or leave it and see how it went. When I took it in for a brake fluid service (£97.00!!!) the service manager said that I need a new clutch!!!! He blamed driver 'error' or the fact that I live in a hilly area - I told him that I'd not needed a new clutch since 1968, so it was unlikely to be my error.

I took the car to two other mechanics, who both said that the clutch only had some wear, associated with the actual mileage (22,000). ... Read more

It often makes economic sense to borrow if you can get the best rates when £7,500 over say 3yrs is only costing a few hundred quid in interest it allows you to buy a better car with lower running and repair costs if you’re doing a hefty mileage or don’t have the confidence to buy a reliable cheapo motor. But at dealer rates I wouldn’t borrow.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread when OceanMan first posted it.

It might just be low clutch fluid level (could be a leak of clutch/ brake fluid)....

My wife's Clio started to make an engine noise 3 weeks ago which was diagnosed as a water pump. The car is 4.5 years old and done 22000 miles as it is used as a second car.

The garage ordered a pump and was promised it 2 days later. However they were then told that there isn't one in the UK. This week they have loaned my wife a demonstrator but still no delivery date. The garage have been very good but is this sort of delay normal these days. I have escalated it to Renault customer services but still waiting.... Read more

18 months ago we waited about 8 weeks for a turbo for a Renault 0.9 engine fitted to smarts.

No amount of complaining reduced the waiting time.

I have bought a new Golf and noticed that the usual vehicle identification sticker had not been stuck in the user manual and the Pre Delivery Inspection record had not been marked. I am told that these stickers are not stuck in the manual any longer and all service records are maintained on dealer's computer. The car is now in to have flat spotting looked at and I have been lent a new Golf (99 miles on the clock). I notice that the identification sticker is in the manual so I wonder why I don't have one in my car. Does anyone have any experience of this please? Read more

My car was built in Mosel but don't know where borrowed car was built. Doesn't the dealer stick the label in the manual or is that done at the factory I wonder?

Stickers may come from the factory or importing depot with the car's papers - dealer then applies them ? (or not)

Hi all,

I posted this on the Mazda Forum but did not get a response, so hopefully I can get some answers on here.

I'm new to this Forum and apologise in advance if my post is too long or in anyway boring.

On Monday of last week I had a 3 year service, Mazda Infotainment update and safety recall inspection carried out by my local Mazda Dealer on my 2016 CX-5 with 35k on the clock, all seemed to be OK and I took out a service plan with them. Two days later my wife called me to say that the car was completely dead and she had arranged for her Companies maintenance dept. to send a mechanic, on opening the bonnet his first words were "there's your problem" the negative battery connection was loose, on opening the positive cover this was also loose. He tightened both connections and everything was OK.

I contacted the dealership who assured me that the battery connections were not touched during the service and would not be checked unless there was a starting issue with the car and that the loose connections were just a coincidence and nothing to do with the service. I bought the car in February this year and have never had any problems with it until now. I feel it is really stretching the bounds of incredulity to suggest that both connections coming loose after the service was just a coincidence.

After the service my wife said that the panel and Ifo system lights were very dim and it seems they had defaulted back to factory settings which I assumed was due to the update and I reset them. It wasn't until Friday when I noticed that the auto windows were not working and I checked the manual to find that if the battery had been disconnected the auto windows have to be initialised, on mentioning this to my wife she had forgotten to tell me that this had happened with her also on the Monday evening after the service which seems to confirm that the battery was disconnected at some point whilst they had the car.

My question therefore is twofold: 1: has anyone had their terminal connections come loose before (I have been driving all sorts of cars for 50 odd years and it has never happened to me) and 2: any suggestions as to what course of action I should now pursue as the consequences of driving a car in that condition are endless the most serious is it could have caused a fire.

I thank you in advance for any response.

Rip Off Britain drew attention to the growing problem of water contamination in fuel, both petrol and diesel.
Two cases were highlighted , both took place at Supermarkets but they said it could have happened elsewhere.
The problem seems to be have been made worse following the introduction of bio in the fuel which causes a by product of water when it mixes with fuel.
The water collects in the base of the storage tank and is mixed with fuel when a delivery takes or the tank runs low.
So maybe avoid any station where there is a tanker in attendance .
Has anyone had problems like this which can destroy an engine and turbo ? Read more
