Audi would say that if you find the Q5 cramped, they have the Q7.
In between, in terms of size, are the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne - If Audi had made a SWB Q7 I'd have bought that instead of my VW Touareg - the Q7 is just too big for some....
I have an SLK but since the dogs arrival we need to be able to have somewhere for her to travel. I've had a look at e class cabriolets and wondered if the 2.1 diesel...which seem to be more in my price range ... or rather what swmbo thinks is. Will that engine strong enough for the larger e class? I have it in my SLK and it's fine. I had a 350 diesel on loan once and that was superb but the economy wasn't great. Read more
You may be right about petrol as mileage won't exceed 8k.

I have just had my car in to Lookers, Braintree after a Ford recall regarding clutch issues/ The recall said that in some circumstances the clutch plate could shatter causing serious potential for damage.
The fix is crude - updating the EMS with a new module that will reduce power if high revs are detected during clutch action.... Read more
“Perhaps the award takes no account of reliability?”
They don’t. It’s based on how the engine is as a new product compared to other new products. Durability plays no part in the decision.
The Rover K series won it despite quickly developing a reputation for cooking itself. The Mazda 1.3 rotary won despite appalling economy and a reputation for being fragile and BMW’s V8 won despite numerous issues that later developed.
The awards go to technically innovative designs but these often tend to show up problems well before more traditional and thus simple motors.

If the oil level is too high on a diesel it can run on its own oil and this would wreck an engine so not good. When a DPF filter is carrying out a regen the engine pumps in more fuel to raise the temp in the exhaust if the car is turned off during a DPF cycle this fuel can go into the sump and this would raise the oil level. Do not continue to drive this vehicle until the oil level is correct otherwise it could be the end for the engine. The best thing you could do is change to a petrol engine vehicle.

I have decided the old Insignia has to go and I am looking at the Mondeo estate from 2015~2016. My first thoughts are the 1.5L turbo petrol as I do about 12~13000 miles a year, but I have seen a 2L diesel that fits the bill.
There is a 50/50 split between just me and me and SWMBO in the car so it is not full of passengers, but we do have long runs on holiday with luggage and the dog.... Read more
Thanks Avant, I had the same thoughts.
Daily commute is about 20 miles in a morning and 12 mile in the evening - difference is due to dropping wifey off but not collecting her on an evening....
When I've had tyres wear on the inside or outside before, they've always been the same (more or less) on both front tyres. This time, just one is worn. NSF is fine.
OSF has the edge severely worn, really flat, not rounded. If you imagine the tyre on a lathe, it looks like it would if you took the edge off with a tool. Maybe I should take a photo.
Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this? Tracking I assume would wear both tyres, bearings would be more patchy, less uniform, and not on the every corner. I'm pretty sure the tyre isn't catching anything, or I'd hear it.
Would incorrect camber angle cause this? Read more
I had a Dunlop tyre that was wearing an outside edge and having the tracking checked, showed no problem. Fortunately the guy doing it could clearly see there was a problem and removed the wheel. Found the tyre had de-laminated around the edge, causing it to be 'wedge' shaped.
Tyre was sent back to Dunlop, who claimed there was no problem! Suffice to say I ain't bought Dunlop tyres for the last forty-odd years!
The UK Government's aim to eliminate ALL fossil Fuel Vehicles by 2030 is "Pie in the Sky" Until we can charge a vehicle fully in around a minute and get 600 mile range we are doomed to a stay at home economy. We will all starve because there will be insufficient electric vehicles for food distribution. Presumably the climate change fans think that food grows in supermarkets not farms. Massive queues for charging stations, thousands of stalled vehicle with flat batteries. Breakdown services unable to cope since they will not have enough portable charging capacity and will still need fossil fuel powered generators for their chargers. All because of the false science claiming climate change. It beggars belief! Read more
How are we going to generate all the extra power to charge the electric vehicles if we abandon fosil fuels?
So what will trump do if the japanese makers cut their US investment and start to downsize when model ranges are up for renewal, as Honda have done in the UK?... Read more
Ford and GM are downsizing because they don't make very good cars that people want to buy (especially GM). Expect the Asian firms to fill the void, including from Hyundai/KIA, who are definitely on the up.
WTF - Is that a camera instead of a simple mirror? No wonder cars are becoming so expensive!

All the reported stats for this car don't add up for me, such as the limited range and potential high asking price, and Honda have succeeded in toning down the concept car's looks just enough to make it look bland rather than retro-trendy.
It will be interesting to see the confirmed specifications of the Skoda e-Citigo due later today, because if Honda are selling their car as a 'city' car, the Skoda may have it seriously trumped in every area.
That’s an excellent warranty deal Skidpan. A real no brainer if you get your money back if you don’t need to claim. The cover is excellent too as with most manufacturer approved used or extended policies.
