Hello. Few days ago warning light came up saying that coolant level is low. I have topped it off and comtinue driving. When I got back, i could smell the burning oil smell from under the hood as well as some white exhaust smoke. I have checked the oil level and it wad above maximum. To me it sounds like an abvious head gasket leak.
Took the car to the dealership where i still had 3 momths warranty. They have diagnosed intercooler gasket leak. Is that possible or im being trolled by them not wanting to pay the nasty bill for me?... Read more
Hi All
In need of some help and advice on what I can do with regards to snapping the heads off the two bolts that secure the front brake discs to the wheel hub on C4? The discs are in real need of a change and the said bolt were welded into the hub, hence why the heads broke off.... Read more
Managed to have the same problem. Took a torch and heated the bolt. Once hot (not red hot) i sprayd wd40 and the heated it up again. After this, I took a flat ccrew driver and tried to unscrewu the bolt. It worked. Heat and extreme temperature variations usualy break the rust bond
Do the almost instantaneous gear changes result in abnormally high stresses on the cambelt teeth when the crank cog teeth rapidly decelerate the belt, and the belt teeth rapidly decelerate the cam cogs when changing up - and vice versa when changing down? Is this why some manufacturers reduced the advisory change intervals? These boxes must unduly strain chains as well, no? I always thought automatic gearboxes protected the engine from harsh and unsympathetic drivers but now I'm not so sure. Perhaps this effect is offset by the many gears such boxes now have, so that the r.p.m. change between the gears is less? Read more
no rockers to rattle up and down 5000 times a minute.
Or 16,000 times a minute in motorbike engines. Not bad though when you can get 130+ hp out of a 600cc motor.

I wonder if the Austrians still have their Postautobus - a joint venture with the post office where some mail was delivered by bus.
Don't know about Austria, but I think the Swiss still run them....

It's probably a bit specialist for a general motoring forum like this, unless one of us has done the job ourselves, which is unlikely here as such in depth DIY is not the norm...most of 'em are not short of a few bob so no need to do their own, not me i'm broke so no choice :-) ps i can give you verse and hymn on changing a Landcruiser 3.0 litre belt...
Seriously, you might get a better response from a specific forum for your vehicle, or another that shares the same engine, ie i assume that the Kia Sorento would have a similar drivetrain.
so don't buy second hand cars then because not only are the tyres second hand every other component is second hand, imagine how dangerous that must be!
a garage that sells a bad tyre will also do a dodgy service sell a dodgy car Read more
Fear-mongering....this article was probably paid for by a tyre maker. I have been using PWT for 30 years and never failed an MOT on tyres (MOT always at non-repair council run garage).
Hi I’ve seen a 2005 Renault grand scenic 7 for sale and needed some advice.
It’s had the same owner for 10 years and has 12 months mot and full service history. There are a couple of issues i have picked up from the mot history and wondered if I should leave alone?
Basically on the mot history between 2012 and 2013 the odometer reading changes from around 65k to 2k. The seller says it had a recall due to the dashboard and it got put back to zero. On the advert he hasn’t lied about the mileage and says it’s done approx 110k. Is this plausible? Last mot showed 45k mileage so adds up with when the dash was replaced.
The other thing is that it has an advisory of play in the steering rack joint. It failed the last recent mot and he had the ball joints done and new tyres but left the steering rack joint advisory. Should I be concerned he hasn’t done this advisory and is selling? Is it an expensive fix? It has now got 12 months mot.
I only have a £1100 budget you see and the car only needs to help with the school runs

One question the OP might ask the seller (may not get an honest answer) is how long the car has been for sale. If that's a month or two, draw your own conclusions.
Wondering if any thoughts on this. Replacing a glow plug has become a nightmare as the threads got damaged (I actually think someone was at it before me). I can either buy a helicoil set and hope no bits go into the head when drilling, or try a strong epoxy around the plug and then put it in. Most brands claim to be able to withstand the heat but what about the pressure..........
Any ideas? Read more
An update
Helicoil was hell. The well is so deep it is so difficult to get the tools for the job. I had to install the helicoild 3 times in the end, as there were all sorts of issues. For example I was sold a tap bit for the helicoil with a pilot nose on it, which put threads in the lower chamber which I didn't want to do, but couldn't find the right tap for it. Did this, but then when screwing in the helicoil, only realised after hours of head scratching that it wound all the way down onto the next chamber where the pilot nose had tapped, so it was squeezing the space and not allowing the glow plug in. Getting the helicoil back out at such a depth is a job! Keeping the swarf out of the engine is a job! Breaking the clip off the helicoil and fishing it out is a job!...
My air con is blowing out warm air until I have been driving for 20 minutes when it is slightly cooler.
Firstly the compressor pulley was found to have come adrift and was bolted back on.
A refill made a slight improvement and showed no leaks.
Does the symptoms lead you to draw any conclusions?
The car is an 03 .

It’s usually the Sanden pump that gives trouble . I would check the the system for contamination before proceeding any further .

Thanks RichardW. I've changed the oil as someone else suggested. The transmission is slightly quieter but it still "sticks". I've tried your suggestion and, yes, it appears to work, although I sometimes forget and we're back to sticking. I'll just have to keep practicing.
They are probably refering to the oil cooler. These parts seem to fail on astra's regardless of year of make.
The intercooler cools intake air using coolant = from euro5 and up. On your model should be air to air and most likely are refering to the oil cooler located either in or near the engine block or oil filter housing.
