Audi. Consistently score pretty low on the JD Power Dependability Study.
Based on that fact alone I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Nor a BMW, nor anything Land Rover.
And yet a significant number of people are still badge snobs who are willing to pay way over the odds to impress their neighbours.

Would much sooner go for a Kia, Hyundai or Suzuki. The most reliable cars money can buy. After all, isn't reliability the number one thing we should be looking for in a car? It definitely is for me.

Re: Unused car
I bought a new Mercedes GLC 250 Sport in October last year. No indication was given to me about service intervals or costs.

Unless the owner asked at the time of buying, then they are unlikely to offer up such advice.

When I bought a second hand FIAT 500X 1.4 multiair from Bishops in Guildford last year, the sales guy said "just make sure you change the oil and filter every 10k or 1year, whichever comes sooner - so I guess they're not all bad

Unfortunately HJ you won't convince the idiots who think they know better and who completely forget that they learned to brake with their right foot even though this felt odd at first until they got used to it. Do they not watch the rally drivers who accelerate with their right and brake with their left? Sadly they refuse to learn new skills and are happy to continue just as their driving school taught them including the white knuckle gripping of the wheel at ten to two....... don't even mention heel & toe and double de-clutching to them !

I bought a brand new peugeot 2008 a year ago, with this conti eco crap on it, took it for its 1st service and got a front tyre wear warning after just 1 year of steady driving 10,000mls, don't believe that green chilli crap and avoid this waste of money, they only have 6.5mm of tread on them when they are brand new, I wouldn't buy these if I wanted some more, good year and Michelin wipe the floor with these in all departments, I can't understand why peugeot swapped from the excellent Michelin primacy 4s to this crap.

These tyres came on my Vauxhall Mokka lease car. They are the worst tyres I have ever had on any car in 40 plus years of driving. In the dry they are adequate but when it rains hard they just feel like they are about to slide at the slightest provocation. To add to that they are the most fragile tyre I have come across. If you have a rapid deflation of the tyre the side wall is immediately shredded meaning you can't re-inflate the tyre and have to call out the AA. This has happened to three of the original tyres and the fourth has done 16500 miles and is down to the wear indicators.

Hi guys, so this is a recent issue, but honest to god I'm struggling. Simply put, my 2004 Smart (automatic gearbox) wouldn't start one morning. Two attempts produced very weak coughing followed by death, the third one didn't even get the engine rolling. I'm very diligent about checking my lights are off and stuff whenever I leave the car, but a dead battery was still my first idea. Got a mechanic cousin to take a look at it... And then come back, and keep looking.

We installed a new battery. The engine would start wheezing, but ultimately wouldn't start. We checked the fuel pump. We checked the fuses. We even went and poured some extra fuel into the damn thing to make sure it wasn't running low. Because it's such a damn particular fussy little thing, it won't let my cousin run diagnostics, because he doesn't have the right computer program for it. Currently looking into that. ... Read more

It’s impossible to guess why it won’t start . You need to find somebody that can run some tests on the system to see what is missing for the engine to fire up.

Thanks for the reply, no bulb but the filter housing has a small plunger to prime. No tank pipe so it's pulled from hp pump.

Got hold of a lexia, ran test for fuel pressure rise and fall which failed with injector return flow too great or leak into chamber....

The steering wheel on my 2011 Jaguar XJ Portfolio (on 20 inch Kasuga alloys) occasionally shakes if I accelerate downhill and then back off. I had the front wheels balanced and I was surprised to learn that the driver's side front wheel has studs that have been shortened! While 4 of the 5 nuts all torqued up fine, the fitter found it hard to properly tighten the locking wheel nut.

I had the wheels refurbed a few weeks ago and the fitter said that the driver's side wheel had been overtightened so he had to replace all the studs and nuts. What he didn't tell me is that instead of replacing the studs he actually shortened them! Am I right in thinking this is the most likely cause of the wheel shake? There was a bit of wheel shake before though as the previous owner kerbed the wheels a fair bit so I probably also need to get the alignment/tracking checked.

Regarding replacing the studs, I could only find studs for the X350 on eBay so I called Jaguar and was told I'd have to buy the entire hub for around £220!!

Does anyone know if it is possible just to buy the wheel studs for the X351 and will it be possible for a tyre fitter to fit just the studs?

I've come across this on eBay and wondered if it would be suitable

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Jaguar-Hubcentric-20mm-wheel...4 - will it be possible to remove the studs and use on my car?

I've also come across this non Jaguar hub for £66.50:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-JAGUAR-XF-XJ-XK-XKR-XK8-XK-R-S-TYPE-FRONT-WHEEL-BEARING-HUB-KIT-ABS-SENSOR/151236163607?fits=Car+Make%3AJaguar%7CModel%3AXJ%7CCars+Year%3A2010&hash=item233660b817:g:wg8AAOSw2i9Z0Nr-

Again, with this aftermarket hub will it be possible to remove the studs from it or will I have to get the complete hub fitted? I'm a bit wary about using a non Jaguar part for the hub as I don't want to mess up the ABS sensor by risking using a non genuine Jaguar part.

Greatly appreciate any advice on how to replace the wheel studs - am I right in thinking that the X351 wheel studs aren't the same as any other Jaguars so for example, I wouldn't be able to use X350 studs which are freely available for £5 each:

Hi,

I have a question about MOT's.... Read more

NARU

It's not an offence to have a car on your drive without an MOT.

Indeed, driving a car without an MOT is regarded in law as a 'minor' offence - it carries a fine but no points. That can be contrasted with driving a car in dangerous condition - which is a much more major offence.

Hi all,

I’m looking for some guidance. While driving today at 30mph I suddenly lost control of the steering of my Golf, in the moment I thought a tyre had blown and I’d dealt with it really poorly. I couldn’t regain control and car veered to the right. Luckily I was on a dual garage way and only (I say only!) hit an HGV travelling in the same direction so whilst car is probably written off no injuries, which is the main thing.

Getting out of the car, there was no punctured tyre, and inspecting the road there was no oil. The only logical explanation myself, the hgv driver and a witness behind had was a mechanical fault with the car. (The car is less than 6 months old and has only done 7k miles).

VW are going to inspect the car tomorrow to try diagnose route cause but I was wondering if anyone has ever had anything like this happen before or has any theories has to what could have happened so I can be a bit more prepared for dealing with VW.

It’s unlikely a power steering failure, as I’d have thought the steering which just stiffen up and I’d struggle to turn, rather than car dramatically pulling to the right while driving straight.

I was wondering about axle snapping or steering column? The wheels ended up pointing the opposite way to steering wheel, but it was impossible to say at the time if that was the cause of or caused by the incident.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Same here, I didn't clock the original date and even went into search as I knew I had seen it before and thought it was being re-posted! Would love to know, if unlikely, it was a mechanical failure.
