Good afternoon,
After driving a few years a VW Bora 1.9TDI, time has come to replace this vehicle, as it has done 425k miles now, and a lot of things start to play up.... Read more
Even if the cover can be replaced, the airbag needs to be removed.
I plan to upgrade my old 14 y.o. Citroen C3 for a car slightly bigger and more reliable and I've found two Hyundai Tucson for what it seems a good price.
Both are "Hyundai Tucson 2.0L CRTD CDX", both have had two previous owners, booth look in quite good conservation and both prices are around £2500, their main differences are:... Read more
Thanks for all the comments.
Finally, I've decided to forget about these two cars and discard any diesel one. So I will increase slightly my radius of search and I will wait for a petrol Tuscon or Sportage. Thanks for helping me to avoid the mistake oy buying a diesel/DPF car....
Smart motorways: Sadly overhead warning signs are not enough when we have the HGV drivers playing with their laptops with the truck on cruise control. Plenty of videos of them batting into stationary vehicles and you don't see the brake lights come on. The first thing the 'driver' knows about it is after he has compressed the unfortunate car in front into 1 third its original length.
It should be law to design trucks with the driver at the same level as cars and vans and not above the accident out of harms way. Maybe then they would pay more attention. Read more
I was going north on the smart motorway section of the M5 6miles before M42 08.15 Sunday The warning sign was on to move out of the near lane because of an obstruction and speed to 50mph. carried on through a few miles and two further signs indicating an obstruction. Finally reached a car which had made it to a small layby. After passing the car NO signs at all to say that the road was clear and to resume the nearside lane and 70. If these sections of Mway are considered smart why can't they be signed correctly. Dread to think that drivers safety relies on an operative to sign the road.
Re Premium fuels.
“Particularly important with a Gasoline Direct Injected engine because instead of being injected over the inlet valves the fuel is injected directly so the inlet valves miss the detergent effect of the fuel and can become coated in carbon.”
So how will using a premium fuel with more detergent help if it misses the valves?
I understand that the carbon comes from oil from the crankcase breather.
I would like to buy a Pugeot 207cc and believe this is GDI so it is of interest to me.

My BMW 530d had run flat tyres you can run up to 150 miles at 50mph on a flat tyre the side walls of the tyres are reinforced the 150 mile range was to make sure the steel in the side walls didn’t catch fire.
Forgive me, but that's hardly 'compact'. And it can only fuel 7-8 forklifts per day, which are smaller than cars with smaller fuel space. Imagine how large the fuelling station would have to be to replace a standard filling station, capacble of providing hundreds of larger vehicles with full tanks of hydrogen per day, plus how many solar panels that would need.
They're a LONG way off from replacing petrol and diesel by that method, and creting hydrogen via other methods uses far more fossil fuels and non-green energy than you get in the hydrogen you create. Read more
PV panels would definitely power the hydrolysis of water, but to power a commercial hydrolysis unit capable of supplying hydrogen to hundreds of cars each and every day, the power required would mean that there would have to be acres and acres of PV panels created to operate the hydrolysis unit.
Realistically, it would require huge acreage of PV panels AND large numbers of large commercial wind turbines, allied with huge battery storage to generate and store enough power to create a commercial facility....
Hey,
Ive recently purchased a 307 1.6hdi, from what I've read they're not too bad a car, however the engine light is currently on. I've had the codes read and it comes up with the following:... Read more
All well documented faults. Just put the P code into Peugeotforums.com search box.
Middle two are glow plugs and probably turbo repeat sensor. Bottom one could be a fault in the wiring loom to the fan. If that's not working, and the glow plugs aren't either then the car will struggle to regenerate to clean the DPF....
Hi folks! I'm currently scratching mmy head over a peugeot expert 1.9d. I think it's a 2003 model. I have found a picture online that is exxactly the same as my engine compartment...

I'm really after a little advice about where to find the starter. I don't mind digging, but don't want to waste my time when it's this cold out. Any ideas?
They are usually at the bottom rear of the engine on the right hand side looking from the front. Follow the thick lead from the battery+ that should take you to it.
Just had my renewal for my buildings & contents insurance.
I've been with the same company for a long as I can remember (10+ years) and always "have a go" at them every year when the premium goes up. This has usually resulted in a "discount" of some sort. They are a well known company and in fairness have no silly clauses (I have several mature trees close to the house within my boundary for instance). Last year I upped my excess to get the cost down to an acceptable price, but the new quote has gone up by 31% (£656 to £858 including Ken Clarke's £92 IPT). This is despite me never having claimed, ever.... Read more
As ever you only find out how good your cheap deals are, once you actually need them.
True, true.
Swiching noice - which in-/decreases with speed - identified by main dealer as caused by air-con compressor which needs replacing at cost of parts £800 plus labour 5.5 hrs, a total of £1,300.
Doesn't sound right. Any suggestions, please?... Read more
Find a local aircon specialist who knows what they are doing. Was it doing the noise before the aircon service?...

I have had five VW diesels over the last twenty odd years and was a big fan, but the cars you are looking at were subject to the emissions update and thats a problem. The update causes big problems for the majority of cars in that age range and this is where the unreliability comes from. You can check if the car has had the update by typing its vin number into a VW web site. There is also a sticker placed in the boot at the time the update was done....
