Couple of weeks ago this intermittent problem started to happen where sometimes the car takes longer to start and sometimes it starts normally which is intermittent.

While driving sometimes the car engine cuts off for a tiny brief second then engine resumes normal and I can continue driving normally for miles with no problem. When engine cuts off you get the usual lights on dashboard then they disappear when car is driving normally.

While driving sometimes the engine cuts off altogether in which I have to turn off the car fully then wait for a sec or two then start the car again in which it starts no problem and I can continue driving normally for miles without further problems.

My battery is just under a year old bought from tanya batteries. I believe I have no problems with my battery as the battery was never flat. Battery terminals look fine too no dirt/rust on them and also checked and found nothing loose on its terminals. The wires look fine from that battery and fusebox.

I scanned the car and it found nothing with the OBD diagnostics error checker scanner tool.

I just checked all the coloured fuses in the fuse box next to the battery and all fuses look ok.

From what I described what's the most likely cause? Read more

Hi another update response from Tanya Batteries:

"Many thanks for your message.

I'm afraid that as the test was done on a flat battery, the results are inconclusive. The battery at 12.36v is around 60% charged. At this voltage the battery has 373CCA, the battery has 67% of the ratted CCA. The battery also held fine under load. The test results show that the battery needs to be recharged.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us"

I remember driving 4 miles to Kwik Fit on that day. So are Tanya right on their above statement when I arrived at Kwik Fit with a flat battery? If so does that mean whenever somebody drives to a place the battery always suppose to be 100% charged via the alternator while driving? Battery Voltage and CCA are correlated? If so what battery voltage gives 100% CCA output then?

If Tanya are correct on their statement then that assumes there's something wrong with the charging system i.e. Alternator if 4 miles driving is enough to charge battery to 100% correct?

If Kwik Fit test is valid backed by a test result document showing the charging system is ok then that means Tanya batteries are talking a load of Bull right? I can upload Kwik Fit test result document here.

I got a receipt from Kwik Fit stating that the charging and starter systems are ok tested by their equipment Bosch BAT 131.

So who's right?

To be fair three of the four options discussed last night are within hailing distance of a majority. Only in last week have MPs been given the option to properly discuss the proposal with proper indicative votes.

If only May had reached out for consensus as soon as she was elected...... Read more

I agree with some of your comments Brompt. I know you sincerely believe them and i respect that. You are very erudite and persuasive with your arguments. There is a lot of common sense and truthful facts in the opinions you express so well. This is such a multi faceted subject. As soon as one point is countered the argument is switched to another, then another and so ad infinitum. We should stick to the first principle and execute the mandate to leave. My vote, such as it was, has been counted and if in the majority, then that really is it for our first past the post electoral system. To reverse that now seems to me to be sheer folly. Despite the ability to revise decisions and re-visit the cherry. I believe this is called hindsight; the only true and precise science known to mankind. We are quite capable of dealing with any unforeseen matter arising from leaving the EU. We cannot call ourselves a well ordered society if we cannot. Commerce has been, and always will be, able to find a way of doing business. It is not in anyones interests, ours or the EU, to be obstructive. When the deed is done I am sure things will revert to normal trading a lot sooner than anyone thinks. Business needs to progress and it will. All our economies are too interlinked to allow any other than a smooth trading path.

As for Major etc etc. They do think they know better, I get that. Doesn't mean it's true. The real truth is nobody actually knows for certain the full effects of leaving. Some say good, some say bad. We will find out soon enough. But I have enough faith in the people who actually get things done despite politicians, to believe a good outcome can be achieved for all in the years to come. That is why it is a pity that they chose to be so offensive in their comments about voters who did not vote the way they thought we ought to. That, in my book is unforgivable as well as insulting. But of course they no longer need to run for election, so maybe it is a true reflection of their belief that voters really are stupid. Either way it not the way to garner support for the cause....

Humm, 2.5 litre petrol with hybrid tech. Wonder where they got that from as it's an identical spec to Toyota's RAV4 and bear in mind Toyota has offered to share their tech with anyone! If so, why keep it secret Ford? Read more

Evening,

After a bit of opinion please, I opened the oil cap to see some gunk hiding under there, not much, definitely Conde station drops. The car has been stood since September '18 and was used as town runabout from Mar 18 until Sep '18, bloke said he has turned it over now and again. There wasn't a lot of gunk under the cap, one of the photos show that the sides under the cap look like they have had a thin layer of butter applied.

Car sounded good, no chatter, just a very very faint "whoosh" or the type of sound of air escaping if you depressed accelerator very gently.

Head gasket or likely condensation coupled with short journeys.

How do I post photos?

Thanks

Bloke should probably have left it alone, depending on what he meant by "turned it over"

If its just been turned over on the starter without actually starting the engine, then OK, that'll re-oil the cams and such, though they probably didn't need it....

I managed to bend the side of the old girl last week - crease and scrape on nearside rear door into the rear wheel arch. A low bollard jumped out on me ;-)

Price to repair is several hundred pounds and I am not going to bother the insurance company as she is 9 years old. I am thinking of second hand door and repair the wheel arch. So I before I get carried away, I guess the arch is double skinned and inaccessible just above the sill?... Read more

Hi, You could try one of the local Dentmasters or equivalent - they come to your house and do the repair. I'm sure they will be able to just fix the wheel arch. These guys usually have all sorts of crooked/ bent tools to get into those awkward places. Replacing the door will be easy and if you're not in any hurry you can register on a number of spares website and say you are looking for a particular colour. you'll be surprised what you might get for a few £££.

Hope this helps...
