About time there was some restriction to keeper details from the DVLA. Private companies should not have the same access as the law enforcement services. Always gone against the grain that some toe-ragging, money grubbing, two bob parking outfit could pursue the keeper regardless of any other factors. We can thank 'Spreadsheet Phil' for this little situation, he put the act through parliament as the relevant minister and completely ignored any advice or complaint about misuse of the system of private companies. How can a commercial organisation that relies on 'fines' for income be trusted to behave correctly or decently when money is a stake? Foxes in charge of the henhouse!!! I rest my case M'lud.

Hi all,

So after the issues I’ve had with my Focus it’s time to replace it.

I did ask HJ what he would suggest at my £6,000ish budget and he suggested a Honda Civic.

Looking locally I can only find mainly 1.6 and 2.2 I-DTECs with 70-90k on them. There’s the odd 1.8, which is my preference but one hasn’t been serviced since 2017 and the other is poverty spec.

So do I go with getting one of the diesels? All of which are in good condition with FSH or do I look at other models? I can see that I can get a fairly low mileage Astra in my budget...

Requirements are it needs to be Focus sized and reliable to do 60+ miles a day.

Thanks

Thank you for all of your assistance on this thread!

I’ve recently just bought a 2012 Kia Ceed GDi with one previous owner, full service history and only 40,000 miles!

Here’s hoping this car will be reliable!

I picked up what I believed to be a new 2019 Dacia Sandero Stepway essential tce90 from a dealership this morning. When I got home and had a look through the handbook there was a sticker at the back which says " model year:16. "

looking at the 2017 Stepway ambiance trim the interior pics look the same as the 2019 essential trim which I beleived I was buying. Is it possible the dealership sold me a 2017 "ambiance" model which was unsold stock in place of the 2019 " essential" model which I believed I was buying ? Read more

Thanks very much for the helpful replies guys, much appreciated.

Checked the tyres and they are all week 35 ( 27/08-02/09) 2018 and the dates on the seatbelt labels are all dated late September 2018, so looks like it was in production around October 2018 .

The 85% rise in Dacia sales proves that there is a significant demand for simple low tech cars, without all the complicated electronic gadgetry that many people do not want or need.

Having said that, I do wish that Dacia would offer the option of automatic transmission, although this is unlikely as it would probably reduce the sales of their parent company Renault.

Proposed car speed limiters & associated black boxes in 2022 can only be detrimental to car sales. I personally was in the market for a new high performance German coupe but have now decided there is no point as in less than 5 years time it would need to be retro-fit with a speed governor & spy in the cab (wonder if the EU have considered the consequence of their actions as in my case Porsche have just lost a £60K sale)..

Hi, just picked up a new Dacia sandero Stepway today and checking over the paperwork I notice that there is reference to both a Chassis number and a VIN number, both of which are the same. The number correspomds to the one on the car, just behind the windscreen on the drivers side, but it looks unlike any VIN I've seen before.

Whereas the others I've seen have have had a mixture of letters and numbers spread across them this one only has 3 letters and they are all in the first four characters, the rest is just numbers. There should as far as I am aware be a letter for model and year of manufacture in there somewhere but apart from UU at the start, which I believe is the letter code for Romania there is only one other letter ( letter B in position 4).... Hi all
The mrs currently drives a Nissan Juke 66 plate. She loves the car but with our two young boys (7 and 4 £ she is finding it a bit small. In particular the rear space and the boot. Looking for recommendations £13k or less. Must be bigger but not hugely massive (Mondeo estate!) and preferably suv

This comes as a surprise, I wouldn't have thought the Juke would be cramped in the back.

Very briefly, I gave up my well paid job over 8 years ago to look after my 96yr old mum who lives with us. My wife has her own car which she needs for work 5 days a week. Up til last week I had an old diesel estate for our very large dog but he sadly died last week. I now am looking for a car under £1500 if possible so that I can continue to take my mum out everyday.

Needs: Petrol, 3 or 5 door, not too low, not worried about mpg really as I only do about 3k a year...and now the odd requirement..ideally a bit stylish as I do occasionally visit customers myself (i'm self employed) and the old estate is looking a bit too old now... Read more

Hi all,

Please can anyone recommend roof bars for a 2017 Citroen C3 without any roof rails or gutters. I believe the type I will need are called Door Jamb Bars.

Thanks in advance

Just had a scary moment with our Polo 2012 model. Both headlights failed simultaneously. Luckily we were only a few yards out of the drive, but as it was dark we left the car safely parked and fetched the other one. All sorts of expensive thoughts went through my mind ( alternator regulation?) and some cheaper ones (fuse?) but when I checked it turns out that both bulbs had failed. I did a bit of research and it seems that this has happened to others. So I have 2 questions,

1. Why would the alternator, presumably, surge in voltage if a bulb fails?... Read more

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't had a chance to check the alternator so far. I have invested in a pair of Osram long life bulbs, but at the moment it has a pair of Ring replacements which we had to get in a hurry from the local motor factors. They've been OK for a couple of weeks now.

I would like to take you up on your offer. Unfortunately, I cannot pay, so here's how I'd like to go about things:

As surety, I'd like you to make up a false document saying I own a second home worth £1m. Then, with this as collatoral, I'd like to take out a loan of £1.02m of your counterfeit bank notes, to pay for said home, £10k for the false documentation, and £10k to be handed back to you as your profit. I will pay off the loan in installments, but only if you pay me £10k as a setup fee in advance, and I assure you that I will pay the rest off.... Read more

I wish to complain about your undetectable bank notes. I used some to pay for a new car, and the garage said they couldn't see them. I couldn't see what I gave them so I'm not sure if they are having me on. It would appear that your notes are undetectable. Could you please send detectable ones as a replacement?
