I have a 1.6 litre petrol Vauxhall Zafira. I recently put it in for it's MOT and it's failed on two minor things and then co2 emissions. I tried additive and a good thrashing and put it for retest it still failed. So I tried an oil change and oil filter gave it a run again and it still failed. So put it for diagnostics which the garage said came back clear so they were sure it was the cat. So i had a new cat put in and downpipe at the garages recommendation but had my brother in law do it independently who is a qualified mechanic. When I took it for a retest however it still failed on co2. Garage who did the diagnostics say it's because the cat was bought from a cheap supplier (Euro car parts). Does anyone have any idea where I go now? Don't wanna pay for the cat to be replaced again. Surely even poor quality parts couldn't be sold unless they pass? Is the garage fobbing me off as they assured the cat change would fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Also in terms of emmissions MOT test centre said it shoots up to 2% then after running drops to 0.34% then fluctuates up and down from there, but never lower then the 0.2% needed.)
Thanks John.... Read more
Hi I have had a similar problem with my zafira b 08 1.6 z16xep. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the engine. Pretty much everything else was ruled out. Oil change oil filter. Cat converter. o2 sensor. Spark plugs. Coil pack. It was established oil was leaking into cylinder causing a dirty burn hence the high emissions.
I am in the middle of rebuilding the cylinder head. The only thing I have found so far which was wrong is a removable panel on the inlet side below the intake ports of the cylinder head. I found this to have a channel to each port and a main channel connecting to the egr. The channels to each inlet port were entirely blocked with carbon build up and therefore could not function as designed. ...

Beer on the other hand, a much simpler operation altogether, is about £6.80 per litre and again HM government makes a mint! Doesn't matter which way you cut it, the bad boys here are really the governments.
Concrete, I've been drawing this comparison for decades, pointing out in addition that the main ingredient of beer falls from the sky - especially round Houston just lately. It may be largely a matter of charging what the market will stand - which is harder to control in these days of global marketing....
Hi all,
I'm in the process of repairing/replacing some interior parts In a Corsa C Design.
I was just curious as to whether there was a way I could find out what colour interior fabric is in there.
It's a darkish grey colour, but I know that Vauxhall come up with fancy names for their colours and I didn't know if the same thing applied to the interior as well.
Would there be a badge anywhere on the car with a code or something to determine this?
Many thanks Read more
Your best bet is to take your car to a Vauxhall dealer .They should be able to identify the trim spec from the Vin number. However it is very unlikley that you will be able to buy anything trim related on a car this old.I would suggest looking in a breakers yard for anything you need.
Thinking of giving things a miss for a while thanks to these incessant adverts taking over my phone while trying to post on the forum. 8 times I've had to delete an advert for TATA communications in the last ten mins!
Daft thing is, there's nothing more off putting for most consumers. I'll never buy from a firm using such an intrusive and irritating form of advertising. Read more
I use a guard and unlock origin on Firefox, and they've worked well until the recent Firefox update when one partially stopped working as a result of the browser update. Hopefully add ons that are either partially or fully disabled will soon work again. If you think its bad here, try and use the Telegraph, which has far more ads, especially of the video type which make browsing impossible. At least I can comment on HJ, as some of these issues mean that I get error messages preventing me from commenting on articles in the Telegraph, particularly using my tablet.

Im amazed someone can buy a brand new car but not 'see' the windscreen built in heating element and seats that do not meet their needs. Do these people make do with a 10 minute test drive? Before buying any new car Ive always insisted on upto half a day's test drive and if the dealer doesnt agree, I go elsewhere. Read more
I can't agree more with this comment. It is important to test drive a car in the driving conditions that you are most likely to use the car for. Some years ago, I test drove a Skoda Octavia after reading and hearing the high praises for it, but chose a Toyota Avensis in the end because it is much quieter and comfortable on motorways. I have not looked back since buying it, and simply cannot understand why the motoring press continue to sing high praises of Skodas (or any VW Group cars) when the Avensis is miles better., and yet had poor reviews. Perhaps Toyota does not "contribute" as much to the motoring journalists, alledgedly.

Regarding colour matching, a body shop near me uses a special camera which takes a close-up photo of the paint to be matched and generates a mix 'recipe'.
The workshop owner told me these cameras cost 2 or 3 thousand pounds but are worth it in assuring a first-time match.

According to the model history part of the honest John review, the e220 bluetec is not a hybrid, just a turbo diesel. The hybrid model was the e300. According to the good/bad section of the review, there were 2 noted problems with the hybrid, neither of which seem to have been rectified. It was also noted that replacing the battery pack would cost £9k. Either way, the e class is not an SUV. ...
