Following my car being written off in an traffic incident, I have just received and accepted a verbal offer from the loss assessor.
What is the expected time line now? I have a courtesy car and still have to sort out a replacement car.... Read more
I came from Honda to VW a number of years ago and on the whole my Golf Nazi Staff Car has been dull but reliable if nothing else!
Although not effected by the emissions myself i won't be buying another German car and will be going back to a Honda Civic.
Reason for this is that VW are not wanting to pay compensation to British VW buyers and are dragging their feet over sorting this whole issue, and i have come to the conclusion, they consider Britain weak and a big enough pushover to not have too.
I hope the wider world think again about buying ALL German cars as they seem very fragile these days!. Built to last 6 years and not much more as Honest John has quite often said. That equates to a lot of hard earned money for just 6 years before it starts failing and costing serious money to keep roadworthy................Steve. Read more

VW send an invitation to fix my Jetta 1.6 TDi 2011 with regards to the emission scandal but when I came in there as scheduled they told me after 1 hour that the car's EGR is faulty so they can not proceed with the emission fixing unless the EGR is done which I have to pay £515. but the worst of all was that when I asked if the £515 is a fix price that I need to pay, the the service advisor named Lizzy at VW lookers Teesside said that the fixing of EGR could cost more as it depends which fault or what type of fault is in there when they check it and that is the only way they can fix the emission problem. I declined and walk away and said that my car was running fine until I came here because of your emission recall now your are saying that the EGR is faulty and you can not fix the emission unless the EGR is fixed is not acceptable. I was very disappointed in dealing with these professionals from VW Teesside.
Hi
So, the missus retired earlier this year and I'm now on the countdown (we're both lucky to be able to go in our mid 50's)... Read more
I shall report back (on the car, not the status of my facial hair) and thanks again for all the advice i.e. "buy a MX-5!"
Probably a good choice, if 'fun Volvo' is not an oxym****! MX-5s come and go; here today, scrapped tomorrow. Hope it lasts as long as my fun 1980 TR7 has; it's seen out a few johnny-come-lately Mazdas. ...
I have a problem at the moment with my Caddy as there appears to be a lack of connection between the accelerator pedal and the engine. This has just started and is accompanied by the pre heater warning light flashing. If I leave it a short while it appears to be working for a matter of minutes and then goes again. I'm no mechanic and I'm guessing something electrical due to the speed it came on, the fact it comes back momentarily on restarting and because the engine continues idling along oblivious to the fact that I am pressing down on the pedal. I try and be as understanding as possible with HGV drivers due to their busy schedule and deadlines on the U.K.'s chaotic road network but I have noticed a more dangerous habit developing that I find unacceptable. This is on particularly large islands (I noticed it on the A50 & A38 island at Burnaston a couple of times recently among others) where when you are approaching their entry to the island at very close proximity they just pull out knowing that if you do not slow to a stop you will end up in the side of their trailer. This is obviously dangerous and probably another sign of our times where drivers don't give a damn about each other or is it just me ? Read more
I guess there are exceptions but in my experience they are among the best drivers on the road. I followed a truly superb HGV driver through mid Wales on the A470 last week, he maintained progress, he didn't hold me up, he placed the truck inch perfect on twisty Welsh roads without cutting or kerbing once. It was a joy to watch.
Within last week an intermittent fault has developed making it initially impossible to engage gear. Pumping the clutch pedal eventually enables engagement but not necessarily the desired gear. Pedal doesn't always return, may stay depressed. No sign of fluid leak in usual parking place. What is the likely problem? - please advise. Read more
If you are not loosing fluid it sounds as though your master cylinder is leaking internally.
Would you buy a used car that had an MOT advisory item in 2010 (25k miles ago) of "oil leak"?
Current owner, a dealer, knows nothing about this.... Read more
I would not worry about it, but I would look for a leak now myself.
The trouble with an oil leak is that it can be something very minor and nearly instantly repaired- leaking or cracked gasket around a sump plug or something, to a serious leak from a gasket which is going to vent under pressure and kill the engine through oil starvation in short order. Of course it can always appear that there is an oil leak, when the reality is that all that oil in the enigne bay has appeared when a muppet like myself spilt the stuff when I was trying to top the engine up last time....
For the last two years now when first starting up my suzuki vitara from cold it struggles to change up in gear. Even if I leave the engine to warm up for 10 minutes it still struggles to change high revving at 30mph. I would repeat by slowing down and speeding up again until it would eventually change gear! One it has changed gear once it runs absolutely fine for the rest of the journey. The gear box does have a slight leak yet the levels are fine.
Can anybody shed any light on what the issue maybe or how I can deduce before seeking repair?... Read more
Go onto ebay and search on there for the gasget ,
There are gaskets and there are gaskets. E-Bay gaskets tend to be cheap for a good reason which could be poor material or poor manufacture, either will lead to leaks and result in you doing the job again wiping out any cost saving....
Hello
I have received a Parking Fine for a car I was using via Circle Leasing car hire. It's a parking charge notice issued by Parking Eye. (camera operated system at the local hospital). The T & C of the car hire company say they will pass on an admin fee of £30 for any parking fines, including those on private land.
The fine is for not paying any parking at a local hospital and driving out the car park without paying. However I have a disabled blue badge and correctly registered the car's number plate that day with my blue badge onto the hospital system via their reception staff -that's the rule at the hospital. That's what you to do and then you get free unlimited parking for blue badge holders. I also parked in a blue badge space with my blue badge displayed properly on the dashboard.
The hospital have acknowledged they are at fault and have agreed to cancel the fine.
However, Circle Leasing have already charged me £30 admin fee onto my debit card for passing on the parking fine to me. How do I go about getting this cancelled please? In my opinion it's an admin fee for an invalid parking fine that has been straight away cancelled by the issuer as soon as I wrote to them today.
But I would appreciate knowing what to write in the email in order to get the car hire company to cancel this admin fee and refund me.
Many thanks

I recently drove a displabled person to a location that uses an ANPR system. The signage said that blue badges should be taken to the reception for free parking. Problem was there was nobody in reception and I was told they often go home when it is quiet! I was tempted to just pay but when I saw the exorbitant fees for a near empty car park I declined. Now I am waiting to see if I get a ticket in the post from them!
I hope you took some phorographs of the empty reception desk and the time and date. Just the sort of evidence to stick it to them RaineMan. Don't you just despise it when 'they' put a procedure in place then fail to follow it. At least if you prove they have failed in their duty you are not liable for any penalty incurred. My £7,000 3rd party claim came via a cheque -<£1K car damage, £4.2K damages for injury & £2K+ for my lawyer, Medical Consultant Reports (x3) & court costs. The cheque should have gone to the lawyer but was made out to me - just another error.
If they had admitted liability in the first few weeks I would have settled for the repair cost plus say £1,000 = £2,000 TOTAL but their insured denied liability despite 2 witnesses in another car who were also hit & claiming from the woman who hit me....
